There is 6-figure money, and then there is 8-figure money. Which do you take?

Me personally 8 figure money all day and twice on Sunday. :) But I dont have the options this kid has.

You are assuming there will be no rookie wage scale in place in the new CBA?

Sure there will be a draft this year but none of them can sign until the new CBA is done. So even if they are drafted before the new CBA they will still be subject to new CBA salary rules.

Unless he falls completely out of the 1st round next year he will not be losing as much money as people think he will.

Exactly, everybody who is calling him a moron need to get the facts straight. The new CBA is going to change the rookie pay scale one way or another starting THIS year. His family has money, he gets his full education and gets to live the "big man on campus" life for another year and then cash in next year regardless. That's sounds like a pretty good life plan to me.

No, but he's risking millions of dollars by staying just one more year. He just is; it's fact.

He really isn't risking as much as you make it sound. You guys are over exaggerating for effect. Like I said barring some catastrophic death or disease the kid is gonna be fine.

How so? You think everything will be inked BEFORE the draft? Because typically, the 1st pick is signed prior to the end of April.

Everything I've heard is that it's going to drag out through the offseason, into the preseason and possibly the regular season. Contracts inked before the new deal should not be voided.

Maybe the kid just likes college and doesn't really care about money -- he knows he's going to make some one way or another, as a football player or as a [fill in the blank]. If I were him I probably would've done the same thing. My family doesn't need the money. I'm going to go back and enjoy college and be the king of the hill for as long as I can before I have to go into the real world and accept responsibility.

But the fact is he's rolling the dice-no matter what the odds. He's not taking the sure thing.

I like Luck, I wish him well. I hope he IS the #1 pick next year (actually, I hope he falls to whatever pick the Cards have, but you get the point). I just think he should take the money while it's on the table.

You just can't handle being on the illogical side of a discussion two days in a row. :)

Before the draft or before negotiations start, end and contracts are signed??

Luck would not be able to sign a contract now, in March, April, June, July, doesn't matter.

Players drafted this year cannot sign a contract until the new CBA is negotiated.

All the draft does this year is give you the players rights until the point comes you can give them a contract.

See 82, now that's a response!

Thanks, Joe. Didn't know that (obviously).

I don't know what this means.

When do you think the new CBA will get done?

Who the heck really knows... But, my perspective is that the new CBA might not get done prior to the draft, but will be done prior to the point where player contract negotiations are either started or completed...

Moronic decision based off of the CBA in place. New CBA, who knows.....

His parents are well off. He doesn't exactly need his degree to get far in life. He could potentially lose out on 10's of millions of dollars by not declaring.

What does he have to gain by not declaring now? A national title is about the only thing I can see.

The risk/reward in this scenario is heaving weighted in the risk category. He can always go back to school once his career is over.

If there is one, the class of 2012 (Luck's year, now) will be the first. The deal won't get done before April of this year.

Its doesnt have to be done by April as far as I know, rookies wont be able to sign until its done.

stupide .

?????

Luck is STUPID!

Sam Bradford got $78,000,000 for a 6 year deal with $50,000,000 guaranteed.

Luck would get $82,000,000 for a 6 year deal with around $55,000,000 guaranteed.

Luck said he wants his architects degree. That'll net him around $28,000 per year...in those same 6 years he may net $180,000.

He IS the #1 pick this year....who knows next year with a new offense and a new coach, NFL rookie wage scale. Jim H KNOWS you strike while the iron is hot...and he's as good as gone.

If Andrew was my son I'd kick his *** and tell him...you are going into the NFL now or never. You don't pass up the glory, fame and $ that comes with being the #1 pick.
He will automatic get to be the starter for 2 years...no one looking over his shoulder.

If he waits - injury and problems exist.

It's beyond dumb for him to wait....ask Matt Leinart. He would NOT be sitting #3 had he come out the year earlier. He would have been GIVEN 2 years as the starter with no competition + a ton of $.

Luck and his family are being beyond dumb.

I wouldn't be shocked to see him change his mind after Jim H signs.

If he comes out now HE CAN'T LOSE!
