The @PhoenixSuns will hold a press conference tomorrow to make a "major announcement." Watch live on Suns.com at 11:30 am.

I'm assuming it's the new GM hire. Anyone hear anything?

I would guess it's the GM hire. But why do a live press conference online for it? Most teams don't do that. In that case, it might be the introduction of Hedo, assuming he is able to travel now after his surgery.

I seriously doubt it's a trade--it wouldn't be announced like that.

I was hoping it will be a trade too, but it is more likely the introduction of Turkoglu or a new GM or both.

i think most of us on this board define "major" differently than does the suns' brass. i think we're all in store for "ho-hum."

It's definitely to introduce Lon Babby as president of team operations.

However, looks like Babby has already started to work. He's interview Dell Demps for the GM position.

And again, why would they have a live press conference for that? Doesn't seem to be something that would require it. Especially since everybody already knows about it.

Because it's official. It's the first time the Suns have actually said peep about it. And the only people aware of it are the media and geeks like us who follow the Suns. The rest of the Valley is clueless.

I could see them treating it as a major announcement. When you look at all the negative press the organization faced following the Kerr resignation it makes sense. If the "problem" warranted so much attention surely the "solution" would also.

Wow....this is not major if it's just a front office move. My idea of major is Sarver selling the team, making a huge free agent trade or landing a big name coach. Everything else is just.....eh.

I can tell you I have arranged my schedule for some of the above. However, let's just say I won't go out of my way to watch a press conference about a hiring of a GM or President of basketball operations.

And again, why would Sarver go out of his way to show it in a live press conference? I understand that it's official--it's the fact that they are doing a live presentation of it that I'm questioning.

I think it is big news to announce who is possibly going to run the Suns in Lon Babby as president of team operations and possibly the new GM. At least I think it is to the general fan. Kerr's departure certainly drew a lot of attention.

Suns expected to name Babby new GM

Associated Press
PHOENIX -- The Phoenix Suns have scheduled a "major announcement" on Tuesday amid widespread speculation that agent Lon Babby will be named the team's president for basketball operations.

Babby represents the Suns' newly acquired Hedo Turkoglu and is the former agent of Phoenix's other recent addition, Josh Childress.

In recent days, Babby emerged as the leading contender in Suns owner Robert Sarver's search for a replacement for general manager Steve Kerr, who stepped down at the end of June and has returned to his previous role of NBA analyst for TNT.

The team's brief news release said only that a "major announcement" would be made at a news conference on Tuesday, with Sarver and coach Alvin Gentry among those in attendance.

Babby, one of the most respected agents in the business, also represents the Suns' Grant Hill, San Antonio's Tim Duncan and Boston's Ray Allen. He also has represented baseball players and served as attorney for the Baltimore Orioles and the NFL's Washington Redskins.

Despite the departure of Kerr and his top lieutenant, Dave Griffin, Phoenix made three important personnel moves after All-Star Amare Stoudemire turned down the Suns' final offer and signed with the New York Knicks.

First, Phoenix signed free agent forward Hakim Warrick. After Stoudemire's departure was worked out to be a sign-and-trade agreement, Phoenix acquired the rights to Childress from Atlanta in a sign-and-trade deal, the Hawks getting a 2012 second-round draft pick. Finally, the Suns acquired Turkoglu from Toronto for Leandro Barbosa and Dwayne Jones.

Kerr, the Suns' general manager for three seasons, decided to leave when his contract expired even though he was the architect of a surprising team that had the third-best record in the Western Conference and made it to the conference finals before losing to the eventual NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers. Despite several reports that he was unhappy with a new contract offer from Sarver, Kerr insisted he was leaving for personal reasons, mainly to spend more time with his family at their home in San Diego.

I just don't think it merits a live press conference, that's all. Video tape it and put it online afterwards, but live?

Because they can. And the web guy doesn't have much else to do right now. And because they know local outlets won't pick it up.
