I agree that it was a dumb excuse, but I am just commenting on the physical cues that Warner was "apparently" displaying. Who knows what was really going through his mind....

PS - As a cheesy metalhead, it is imperative that I point out that this post will go down in BB history as post #666 for me....

And most importantly....

The hate comment was sarcasm. I'm just saying DVL implied that Warner was not interested in helping Josh because hes a me person. Go back and watch that conversation on the sideline and listen to what Warner is telling him about the safety. The key to the whole game was contained in that conversation, get the safety to move and the whole field is open. There was a sequence in the first quarter where the safety overrann plays and JOsh didn't see people open, then he led Boldin right into said safety(drop by Boldin). Somewhere around then is when warner shows him the photos and explains what the hell is going on.

To me, the difference in this game is Warner DOES care about teh team and pointed out something that as you say apparently the coaches didn't see.

I remember that moment too.

Honestly I think as the game wore on and Josh did better and better it may have shocked Kurt a bit. It shouldn't have, given how bad the 9ers secondary was but I think it did.

The times Kurt looked bored talking to him were later in the game after Josh was all bubbly and goofy. I can imagine that would get old to everyone.

That wasn't Warner. Kurt was back in Phoenix rehabbing his injury. The Cards hired Jason Patric to go to Mexico and stand on the sideline.

Josh completed 70% of his passes and ended up with a QB rating of 109.4. That's a career best.

And of course, we got a few special McCown plays where he threw a pass into an offensive lineman and got to watch him get creamed a few times and he tries his best fullback impersination.

Josh had a good game and the S.F. secondary is awful. Any other team in the league will go aerial on them for the rest of the season.

What do you guys want him to do really? Don't you think he was a little jealous of not being in there with a nationally televised game, with a Super Bowl Caliber crowd.... He helped McCown In the beginning to give him pointers and settle him down some.... When Warner was telling him he is happy for him I think it was genuine... But he seemed to try avoiding the conversation because Josh was saying he trying to think what Kurt would do on that play... Kurt was probably thinking whatever man.... Warner probably knew the talk of a QB controversy would start with such a game as it obviously did here....

Here's a blurb from the NFL.com game story.

Two-time MVP Kurt Warner was on the cover of the game programs, but Arizona's veteran quarterback missed the game with a groin injury. McCown, who started 13 games last season, started slowly but became the game's star when he realized the Niners' pass defense, with three fringe NFL players among its top five defensive backs, wouldn't stop anybody.

I'm glad we won and Josh lit them up but they do lead the NFL in points allowed and that was "BEFORE" they lost their top 3 CB's. SF has the worst pass defense Josh will ever see, hopefully his confidence is skyhigh and he'll be on a roll for CARolina.

Agreed, it's the worst defense we may all see in 10 years at least against the downfield pass.

It's solid upfront but the secondary wasn't even preseason caliber.

On a positive note I think you are going to get your wish sooner rather than later. It think Green is going to be our other starting corner next year and Rolle is going to FS.

May God have mercy on the rest of the NFL QB's when that happens. I truly believe that if he stays healthy he will end up in the Hall of fame as a FS.

A guy with that kind of game staring at the play as a FS.... OH MY WORD!!!!!!!

How did you come to this conclusion? Rolle and Green will probably be starting for us next year at the CB position with Macklin the NB. I think that's pretty decent.

Well a lot of posters on here feel he's a natural FS.

I think he'd give you tons more turnovers and change games more out of the FS position.

He's big enough, hits hard enough and he's got a great game, he's just not overly fast as a corner and that's where I think people get that.

Because people always think it is a good idea to move players around in position.

I can think of so many instances where it has worked out.

Rolle and Green will be a fantastic pair of corners next season.

A little early to be giving up on Rolle as a CB because of how he played in a game where he was hurting.

Our defense did their part also tonight. Hell, 14 SF points were due to our offense. This defense needs to play with the same intensity for the rest of the season. This is the type of play we expected and should expect.

Thank God we finally have shown some depth at CB!

And before anyone says "Look at Wakefield"

Tell me the last player who changed positions and that led to a pro bowl level of play?

It's insanity is what it is. Rolle was the best player in our secondary through preseason and the first two games.

Then he got hurt. Insanity.

Roy Green.

If we want to talk NFL and not just Cardinals, Ronnie Lott, Rod Woodson, both come to mind as guys who moved from CB to Safety. THe Raiders have wanted to move Charles Woodson for 2 years now but he refuses to move.

Rolle is good enough at CB right now but I think he'd be a pro bowl safety, that's essentially how Miami used him much of his career. I wouldn't move him now because we don't have a better CB on the roster, but someday he's going to be a hell of a FS.

Anquan Boldin -changed from QB in college
Bert Berry - changed from being a LBer in his early NFL career

I still agree that its best not to change just for the hell of it

Now why would you hate him for that?

He at least listened and what does that say about our coaching staff that they weren't the ones that pointed that out?

At least he apparently got it after he was told.

To me the single most frustrating thing about watching Cardinal QB's over the years is the utter lack of help they get. It's like no one translates stuff to them.

Josh may be a slow learner but isn't that a coaching staffs job to fix that?

I mean shouldn't you point out stuff to the guy in ways he understands and hound the heck out of him when he dosen't get it until he does?

CToo many times it's like, well it's freakin obvious what he should do and I'd say to you the kids not that smart. Some athletes aren't that smart and if they are good enough athletes then you take the time to make sure they finally get it.

Well put Conrad.

It looked to me Warner was more than happy to mentor Josh.

Green on the other hand was not. After McCown scored his first TD they showed his giggeling and laughing telling Green what happened but Green was walking away from him and never really acknowledged him.

Nobody

likes it when they';re getting their face rubbed in the dirt by someone who isn't doing it intentionally.
No great quotes from Green yet, today.
He''lL be liie alot of people on this board. Dismissive of the importance of what just happened.
I'll take a "giddy" sand lot player type, that just wants to play and win, over someone who's too stuck on what's wrong and not fixing it, anyday.
Keep walking away Green, but you can't hide!

Interesting. We need to get behind Josh no matter what, while we criticize Denny?

Interesting

is evry spin everyone is trying to put on this, but don't like the answers they get. I'vee never dissed Green, don't like some of his decisions, but never dissed him. AND, I think his walking away is more of a " I still got a game to coach kid" than anything else.
AND, again, it's not just MCCown, but whoever is out there playing, we should be supporting. Ala Wakefield, Tate, Green, etc.
WE won. plain and simple, with the kid noone wanted to pick. If he's "seeing things, that others aren't, I think they should lend an ear. NO?
So far, there hasn't been any criticism of Green, unless I missed something.
There will be, if McCown keeps win ing and he puts Warner back in. That I'm sure of.
