What makes a movie a great adaptation of a novelist's work? Stephen King still absolutely hates Kubrick's version of The Shining. Is a movie one of the best/worst because it does well at the box office, becomes a cult favorite, or because it stays true to the original work? Honestly curious.
In my opinion, the bold is what makes a great adaptation. That's why I can't really comment in here; the only SK "book" I've read is The Long Walk...which I can't fathom ever successfully translating to a movie.

In my opinion, the bold is what makes a great adaptation. That's why I can't really comment in here; the only SK "book" I've read is The Long Walk...which I can't fathom ever successfully translating to a movie.

I took a different view, mainly because I've read a lot of King's novels. I chose the best movies IMO that were inspired by King's writing. His writing style isn't conducive to visual storytelling like movies.

eh... they soft-peddled what she actually did in the book. always bugged me for that reason.
Wait, what did she do to him in the book? lol It was worse than hobbling? Jeez Stephen!

She chops both feet off and she kills the Sherrif by running him over with a lawnmower and then repeatedly stabs his crotch with a metal cross.
