I was looking to purchase one of these two games in the forseeable future, and was looking for your collective advice as to which one I should get.

The main things I'm looking for are the franchise mode (I prefer something that lasts awhile and is as realistic as possible over the one year or arcade mode type games), realistic game play and graphics.

Which would you gentlemen and ladies reccommend?

2k8 doesn't have a Franchise Mode so that should answer your question.

NBA2K8 is the best Basketball game to date. Period. The Live series has been playing catchup for years and still has not to date. Don't bother with the Live series. I would rent both first but trust me, it won't take you long to make your decision.

I have 2k8 and it is fun to play. I just wish it had a franchise mode. The trading of players for a season is just awful. 1 for 1 and that is it. Absolutely no general manager feel.

I hear you. However, I am in it for the game play more then anything else. The rest is just icing on the cake. There are still a few things I would like to see changed though.

Currently I am playing on All Star and still winning by 50 so I think I will go up to Hall of Fame next.

Boris Diaw is all universe for me. There isn't a PF in the league I can't take off the dribble using the PS3 motion controller

I've rented 2K8 and it's got "The Association" mode, which is essentially Franchise or owner mode.

2K8 is wayyyy better it's not even close. It is so much more realistic and feels like a real basketball game instead of arcade craziness (Live). Also it has so many authentic jump shots, post moves, dunks, etc. that it's just amazing. It has nearly everyone's actual jump shot and the ones who are just generic or whatever still look pretty much like the guy's shot in real.

Just picked up the PS3 version of NBA2k8 and like it. The first thing I did was make some edits to players. (I really lowered Diaw.)
