RJ gets the complete game win as the Diamondbacks won 6-2. I wonder how many more starts RJ has left in an Arizona uniform?

I don't think RJ will be traded. Not a lot of teams can afford his salary, and I don't believe he likes the Yankees.

Possibly the Angels, they have the bucks and it's west coast. I doubt he'll go east and I don't see any teams other than the Angels in the west who can afford him.

Plus I think JC wants him to finish his career in Arizona and enter the HOF as the first D-Back. Staying here 2 more years makes that more likely. If he's traded I think the nod goes to Seattle.

I assume you didn't mean to say 'the nod goes to Seattle.' - Why go to an almost equally bad team due for massive overhaul and rebuilding?

God, I know it's un-stat-head of me, but I really hope he's not traded. It was very bittersweet at the game today, realizing he might not pitch here again, or Fins play CF.

It almost seems, however, like Randy is finally taking a leadership role:

"There's a lot that's happened this year and we all know that here," Johnson said. "It's not easy for anybody right now. So I think a lot of people just need to really step up. It's time to step up and start being accountable. This is the Major Leagues now, it's not the minor leagues anymore. There's no one person, no one thing that put us in this position, but we can somehow work our way back, taking it game by game and playing like today."

"The last couple of games we had ... runs scored for us and the pitchers need to go out there and bear down," Johnson said. "Step up and do your job. I know it's not easy and I'm at fault too, but somehow you've got to find a way because our offense can only score so many runs and then you've got to do your job as well."

Wonder how long it will take for Pedrique to get over the awe and intimidation - he was absolutely thrilled to get the game ball from RJ, and apparently felt he personally should check on Randy after the ninth-inning error-by-committee (which got him furiously booed, all of us thinking he was pulling Randy.) That's OK once or twice, Al - but you are indeed a big-league manager now. Exactly the same game -gotta act like you belong, as all rookies are reminded.

I am on the same thinking as Schillingfan...Randy will stay. He is a special entity and does as he pleases even if he steps on a lot of toes. I think he likes Arizona as a state and its lifestyle. If the Big C and the two G's get rid of him I think the DBACk fans will really holler. Have any of you read the letters to the editor in the Republic? 90% were not too happy to see Brenly go and what do you think will happen if they force Johnson out? They fooled around too much already this season and we are in the dark snake den at the moment.

Nod goes to Seattle for hall of fame induction. RJ has 9 1/2 years in Seattle, only 5 1/2 in Arizona.

However, most of his Cy Youngs and the World Series were in Arizona. If the numbers get closer, like 7 or 8 in Arizona, then he will go in as a D-Back. But if traded now, RJ will go in as a Mariner.

Pitching Coach

In 2001 we had Bob Welch as our pitching coach. The Diamondbacks went to the World Series and became World Champions.

Then Welch disappeared and we got Kniffen. Whats with that? Where did he come from?

Now our pitchers lead the league in walks, wild pitches, home runs allowed and sore arms.

Why didn't we keep a proven winner in Welch?

I also liked Bob Welch plus they also had Roger Craig as a special consultant to the pitching staff. Craig forces his splitfinger on just about every pitcher (and has been known to tear up arms with it) but I think he made some contributions to the club. I believe Welch left under his own accord, with no interest in being a coach anymore. Kniffen was useless.....

Diamondbacks winning 3-0 in the third as Finley hits a 3-run home run. Let's hope Webb can hold off the Dodgers.

Pedrique sucks. Why does he take Webb out in the 6th? Service gives up a 3-run home run and it is now 5-3 Dodgers.

Pedrique took Webb out because he doesn't know what he is doing. His career minor league managing record is right at .500! We was the lamb that took over. Yount didn't wnat it, and Pedrique was the only one who wanted it.

How many pitches did Webb have? I couldn't see. Regardless, it was boneheaded - did he think having a new manager would suddenly make the bullpen remember how to pitch? (Maybe we weren't being silly to think he might pull RJ with two out in the ninth. The fact that he even considered it - however briefly - really bothered me.)

Interchangeable Bozos

Just when I didn't think the season could get any longer.

Only 90 pitches. Webb had tied his season high in strikeouts and seemed like he was still pitching well. Makes no sense unless Webb was hurt.

Gagne blew the save. Tracy gets a hit to tie it 5-5.

YES!!! GAGME FLOPS! His 84-save run was bookended by The Arizona Diamondbacks. And Tracy outlasted that incompetent umpire.

Holy Mother of GOD! VILLAFUERTE!!??? Is Pedrique looking to get lynched?!! What an idiot! Don't we have ANYONE else left?

Actually it looks like Pedrique has pretty much run through the whole bullpen - in 9 innings, no less! And I thought Brenly was awful at managing bullpens by running through too many relievers. Serves him right for taking Webby out for no reason in the 6th inning.

Shea bunts with 2 outs and men on 2nd and 3rd. I hope that was Shea's doing or else we have a very dumb manager.

Grrrrrr.. He has Shea try to lay down a two-out BUNT.

But it's hopeless anyhow. Villafurty walks them loaded and Choate gives the long sac fly.. Grrrrr

Diamondbacks lose 5-4. This would of been a great win if they would of pulled it out. They had their chances in the 10th.

It was Shea doing it on his own. Beltre was playing way back behind the 3rd base bag. If he layed down an average bunt, we would've take the lead but that didn't happen.

I'll say that this loss was due to Pedrique's cautiousness with Webb (something that managers normally do in the minors). He has to adjust to the big leagues where that often isn't necessary

At least Pedrique is using a lot of pitchers in close games, as opposed to Brenly who has been known to use seven pitchers in blowout losses.

When did Villafuerte get annointed the set-up/late inning reliever? Because he flat-out sucks. I don't want to see him come into a close game in late innings ever again.

If Pedrique had anything to do with that bunt - I mean, Shea NEVER bunts, what would possess him to try it with two out?? If he's that dumb he needs a brain implant. Anyhow, if the manager participated in that lamebrained scheme, I suggest a public recall petition at once.

Man do I agree with you.

Yesterday's game he walked/hit guys into bases loaded TWICE. Then again today.

The only good thing I've heard from is that Al will probably put Andrew Good back in the bullpen and replace him with Dessens. Not like that is saying much, lol. But Dessens has been pitching a little more solid than Goody.

Well, call it hyperbole, maybe, but 'kidding'? not really. Amazing achievement, sure - and ecstatic to have us be the team to end it. # 85 - oops! Blown Save. Heh heh.
Next time that LA comes to town, and the rows immediately behind my season tix are (as always) overflowing with loudmouth Dodger fans wearing their "Game Over" T-shirts, I will point and snicker. Streak Over.
