One season with really limited minutes for okobo and rollercoaster minutes for Melton. While odds are against either of them developing into an eventual starter, cutting them at this juncture seems incredibly short-sighted. They were second round picks, did everyone expect them to be finished products? They’re projects. Even everyone’s wet dream 2nd round pick around here, bell, wasn’t what he was perceived to be immediately. He’s disappointed in his lack of growth. So we don’t know what we potentially have in these guys.
I didn't expect them to finished products by any means and I actually had high hopes for okobo, I did expect at least some resemblance of a potential basketball player , okobos shooting and shot selection was poor outside a few games, his decision making rivaled JJ s more often then not, and his defense was terrible. I hate given up on players after one year but man he needs to show a huge leap next year if he wants to even be in the nba in the next 2 years

You can't keep them all on the roster. This is how it always is with second round picks. It seems like they have potential just waiting to be tapped, but you have to commit to a limited number of players.

Since they're both PG's I think the Suns need to choose which to keep and which to let go. I don't think it's a matter of giving up on one of them so much as giving the other a little more room to grow. If one of them was projected to be a SG then I'd be ok with keeping both but they're both PG's and it's unlikely either will be able to make the move to SG since they aren't even NBA quality guards yet. Melton is closer to being an NBA player right now than Okobo is and if we had to choose one then I hope it's him. I can see the logic behind keeping both through camp to see who can beat out the other but I don't think both should be on the roster next season.

I’m nervous that James Jones thinking signing Derrick Rose would be a good idea.
I am thinking he fits in the category, James Jones himself said, of older guys not fitting the timeline. I looked up, he is 30. Maybe that's too old for the Suns?

What does it matter if he’s not on the court? Anyway to answer your question he’s a God awful defender but you’d only have to live with it for 40 games so...
More like 82 games. A guy can't play defense from the bench. ;)

If I was another team, I would want Melton. He played some good defense for a rookie. You can always use that off the bench.

Personally I feel like Okobo has the potential to be a good scorer. Half his problem is just not knowing how to use the skills he already possesses. His ball handling is very good, he has pretty good athleticism and speed, he just hasn't learned how to maximize it yet. But he is a pretty bad distributor - and that generally does not get dramatically better.

Melton may become a decent shooter, but he lacks Okobo's fluidity. He could become a pretty good 3 & D player though.

Remember though a big factor is the contracts each are signed for - okobo has 3 more years at a low rate whereas Melton is only contract for 1 more season.

It seems to me most of the team liked Ellie wheras Melton is not hanging out in the valley boyz. This is another factor.

I think taking everything into consideration, I would probably trade Melton.

Only if his health issues are behind him. Otherwise we are staring last year's disaster right in the face.

Now that he has rebuilt his image and is getting up in age, I have a feeling he is going to want to sign with a contender.

He would not be a bad option, but I have a feeling there will be a lot of competition for his services, and he is not the defender / distributor that would be a great fit for the suns.

So...in other words, both are more shooting guard prospects than point guard prospects. That sentiment seems familiar...

Well yes, I would describe them both as combo guards. I don't think that should be news to you.

Gambo has said he would not be surprised if the Suns get rid of both. I think we should keep at least one of them, because both have good potential IMO.

Hypothetically, what makes Isaiah Thomas less appealing than Rose?
I don’t know that I’ve stated my preference of one over the other. But I suppose I’d push cones to shove I think I go rose. Maybe decency bias with rose having played 50+ to 12 games last season and rose having put up 18pts/game with pretty good percentages.
