Not really "camping", but a couple weeks ago we took the RV trailer to Hunting Beach for spring break. Stayed in an RV park 12 feet from the beach for 5 nights. I could become a beach bum full time, no problem.

I like your camping alone idea. I've been thinking about doing a weekend trip like that up near payson. Just hike through the woods and camp near one of the lakes for a night.
That sounds pretty awesome

What about Patagonia Lake? Has anyone camped there? Looks cool, but sometimes pictures can be deceiving.

Very nice lake. It has crappy, blue gill, & bass. There is abundant wildlife around the area. I think it is day camping only unless in certain specified areas where you can put a pop up camper or RV.

Sheep's bridge this weekend. Wife and kids are away so only bringing my hammock, survival needs and my jeep. Should be a great time.

I would love to go camping, unfortunately my wife has zero interest in it, which means no camping.

She may be willing to compromise and do the RV thing though but when I think of camping I think of hiking in to an area and actually roughing it so I am not sure that would be the same.

Anyone own a Class C motorhome? If so I'd like to hear your pros/cons.

We don't have a Class C but we have a Class A. We thought about a Class C but with 2 dogs we thought we needed something bigger. We bought a used Fleetwood Southwind that only had 17,000 miles on it(my inlaws just bought a brand new one). The pros to a motorhome/RV is that it's all the comforts of home. The cons are unless you can flat tow your car, you're pretty much stuck. Before my inlaws got their motorhome, they had a tow behind and we just used my FIL's pickup. Last trip we had to rent a car. Here's my baby:

We need a sub-forum under Camping for RV's called "I call it camping, but if I have Direct TV in the wilderness, it really isn't."

:D

Thanks BRR. Btw, one of my best friends dad used to drive sheep from up on the Mogollon Rim down to the valley & back every year on horseback. His last name is Ellsworth & Ellworth Rd is named after his family. He was born & raised in Queen Creek.

Awesome.

He sounds like a character in a Zane Grey story.

Arizona is so pretty. I just got back from a weekend camping trip up behind Roosevelt Lake. Just me and my dog. Trying a new idea making a shell on the back of my truck with electrical conduit and a tarp. It worked out pretty well. Despite the fact that the temperatures were in the 30s so I frozen at night. A space heater will solve that in the future.

I wish I had taken a picture of the "tent". Maybe next time.

We inadvertently went on an 8-mile hike. I started the stepper on my phone when we turned around to come back to camp. 4 miles back means 8 miles total....in my work boots.

I also found where I want to camp next. There is a mesa overlooking Roosevelt Lake and the surrounding Valley. The pictures don't really do it justice.

You probably know this, but make sure your set up has some ventilation, you don't want to wake up dead. Lost 2 soldiers out at NTC because they used a space heater in an enclosed environment.

BTW- Did anyone ever tell you that you look kinda black?

You don't have a 30 degree bag?

Is it really camping if you have Bluetooth headphones on your neck? :)

I do....but that just says you wont freeze to death in 30 degree weather which, I didn't. I just wasnt all that comfortable.

As far as the headphones I had them on more out of habit. I dont think I used them once while I was there.
