"There's much debate over Emeka Okafor's height. Okafor swears to me that he's 6-foot-9 "at least." An NBA player personnel man who has witnessed Okafor being measured says, "He's exactly 6-81/4 with his socks on." Okafor, who could be picked No. 1 by the Magic, also says he didn't watch the lottery but "heard it through the phone. My agent [Jeff Schwartz] was giving me the play-by-play." Orlando Sentinel

He is probably 6'9" in shoes

If he's 6' 8 1/4" in socks, that's probably a bit over 6' 9" in shoes, which means he will be listed at 6' 10". That's a bit bigger than I thought. I doubt that too many NBA players who are so-called 6' 10" would be much over 6' 8" in their socks.

Don't forget to subtract an inch for the head, though.

I've decided that it doesn't matter how tall Okafor is--he's a center and he'll play center in the NBA. It will look funny if the Magic keep everybody and McGrady is the tallest player in their starting unit, but Okafor should be able to make it work.

They really should list how high the guy can reach. Kirilenko is listed at 6'9" but he gets 2.29 blocks per game because of his quickness and really, really long arms.

Actually, measurements from the Chicago pre-draft camp do include wingspan.

That's what I've heard. It is just that none of the draft boards give the information or do not give it in a consistent way.

If the guy was 6'3" I could undersand all the worry about hieght.

But how tall a guy is to the top of his head has nothing to do with a guys ability to play a position.

Barkley was one of the best PF's and many say he is really 6'4". And he was still a giant out there...

Height, wingspan, vertical jump, & basketball instinks are are factors that descide if a guy can play or not. I am so tired of "Numbers", watch the guy play....

If he is a center or a PF in the NBA he will still be a dominant force on the defensive end. Which is wha the Suns need BAD. Too bad we dont havt that pick :(

I've been hung up on Okafor's true height for some time. I think the bigger question concerning him is his athleticism. He is often compared to Ben Wallace who would easily be the #1 draft pick this year. He may actually have as much as 2" on Big Ben's standing reach, but I don't believe he is nearly as athletic. He'll also have to add some weight and strength to avoid being pushed around by NBA centers, but he's a very very hard worker.

They also measures standing reach.

I would be a lot more interested in how healthy he is than how big he is. This back thing would bother me if the Suns tried to trade a lot to get him.
