Even though I don't know anything about the facts of the case, just based on the allegations the 9ers should at least deactivate MacDonald.

I'm equally ignorant on the facts of the case but I don't like the idea of exacting punishment without giving him his day in court. And even if you paid him, it's still punishment IMO.

Actually, I agree with you. I guess I was just having a visceral reaction to the whole state of affairs.

That's understandable. We are being inundated with report after report of some very inappropriate behavior, it's difficult to not just throw up your hands and say burn them all.

Sure but I think the punishment for that is he has to play for Harbaugh and the San Francisco fans. Anything more might be cruel and unusual punishment.

Is D wash trial or sentencing set for like next March or something? How does that happen? You or me would already be hanging like meat in a freezer.
When is MacDonald due in court for whatever? After the season?

I guess I'm just a bitter old man.

From your comments, I'm guessing you didn't actually read most of the commentary in this thread. Personal experience horror stories yes, but show us all the condoning and and rationalizing? The vast majority of us here have spoken out against Peterson's "apparent" actions.

Steve

I read all of the commentary.

Well, that's too bad. If you hadn't read it we'd have had a shared understanding of your decision to accuse most of us posters of condoning Peterson's actions. Now, we just have a huge question mark and we're left to wander the earth, wondering what he did wrong.

I really don't know what should happen to him but it's not the same thing as the Rice situation, it's not even all that similar. You have a right and a responsibility to discipline your children. You have neither the right nor the responsibility to cold **** your girlfriend. If he did this to establish discipline, he needs to understand that he went too far and he needs to learn a better way to teach his children to behave.

I don't know if or how Peterson should be punished, I'll leave that to the courts. But if he'd done the equivalent to this child that Ray did to his girlfriend, I'd be in favor of locking him up and throwing away the key. It's the difference between ignorance and evil IMO.

Steve

A man has a duty and responsibility to discipline his wife it even says that in the Bible

He just went a little bit too far I'm sure he'll learn from his mistake

So as you can see Steve the situations are perfectly the same

A woman or a child or property of the man and should be punished as the man sees fit

It does get crazy when you bring the religious aspects to it. It worries me too that AP justified himself in that manner. Fortunately, the laws of the bible are not the laws of our land no matter how much some zealots believe otherwise.

Peterson's actions were inexcusably wrong but it was a matter of degrees. Had he been a little more careful where he struck him and had he hit him with less force, this wouldn't be an issue. If Rice had struck here with a little less force and an inch or two lower, this video would still be pretty damning.

Um. He can't be serious. I think you bit on that one.

The Bible does not say anything about a man disciplining his wife, or that his children (or wife) are his property.

It does say a husband is supposed to love his wife more than he loves himself. It also says that parents are not supposed to provoke children to anger, but rather nourish and instruct them.

Seems like decent advice to me--probably would have prevented both situations we are talking about if taken to heart. People misuse the Bible all the time to try to excuse themselves for unjustifiable behavior.

No, I think I understood where he was coming from.

So given the domestic violence suspension terms PLUS prior drug issues are we looking at another season ban for 2015?

It will interesting to see how that is handled. It has been said that the two issues are separate, and it happened before the new DV policy. So, does he get the year based on the new policy or two games based on the original Rice suspension? I say he deserves the year, but the NFLPA will fight for him.

The absolute most common punishment in my household is pushups. They get that for pretty much every infraction. It is healthy, hard and infinitely repeatable. My kids have done upwards of 100 pushups in a setting (oldest daughter had the audacity to talk back WHILE doing pushups once, so it just built).
I have a friend who did the same thing with his daughter and she was really a problem child. This is her now.

Yeah he definitely deserves a year but nobody seems to know.
