The Chargers compromised on cash flow in years 2,3 and 4 of the deal, and gave Bosa the largest upfront signing bonus in team history, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter and multiple reports.

Bosa compromised on the offset language of the contract, according to Schefter and reports.

So, the Chargers did what most teams do and Bose signed. Imagine that.

Yup! Fully guaranteed. $17m signing bonus paid now in return for offset language and structure in years, 2,3,4.

It effect the position Condon took on behalf of his client.

So much for your 70/30!

Not quite. Article breaks it down. They did a good cop/bad cop agent switch and the final deal is pretty much the "best deal" the Chargers offered a week ago.

There is no winner here. Bosa hurt his reputation amongst teammates. Chargers hurt their ability to have Bosa contribute immediately.

No winner!

Bosa gets bonus up front and you're kidding yourself if you think getting his is a problem with teammates. The problem is if he doesn't perform.

Clear loser... The Chargers!

He hurt his reputation among his teammates because he was looking out for his future? Um, okay.

His team has been in camp bonding for a month and working their butts off together. Homie is going to walk in day 1 with a $17M paycheck while UDFAs whove been fighting and practicing are packing their belongings, collecting their $15,000 and walking out the door.

Yeah, he'll be beloved.

Who cares what UDFA's who'll be flipping burgers in a week have to say...

Common understanding of humans

That's not a link nor is it "common understanding."

I want some proof that he has "lost the respect" of his teammates, as you so boldly stated.

Youre a real class act.

And its the teammates who are still there who will have something to say. Those kids getting cut have at least been there working. The Vets like Antonio Gates recognize that. And Bosa is coming in with zero camp, $17M bonus, and entitled attitude.

Who said "Lost respect"? To lose respect, you have to have gained respect. Hows a guy who hasn't been in camp gained the respect of his teammates?

Its basic social dynamics 101. If you don't understand it, go make more friends.

Multiple players commenting on his holdout is proof they don't support him. Antonio Gates specifically. Hes the leader in the lockerroom besides Rivers.

Keep spinning!

And Gates, the company man, should have kept his mouth shut. There's a guy, by talking about someone elses $$$, who may have lost respect in the room.

Hahaha. Good job being condescending while displaying total ignorance.

First rule among players is to stay out of other players' contract issues. It's Seen by players as bigger than the team.

The one acting like a jerk was Gates. He broke an unwritten rule and commented after he himself was a hold out.

Someone who doesn't understand the social components of a negotiation is telling me that I need more education on social dynamics.

That's fine if people disagree with me but I swear y'all are being especially thick regarding this comment bc 2 others have made the same response.

let me clarify:

Not the kids who were cut. The players who are still on the roster who practiced with the kids. The vets who saw these kids work, and made friends with them, and mentored some of them.

Here comes another kid (Bosa) who hasn't been working, is entitled, and has a bigger bonus than any vet on the roster. He stays and all the kids whove been fighting are gone. To think the vets respect him? Cant help you.

This isn't even an opinion. Its basic human nature. I don't have to prove what an average intelligent person understands. Anger, jealousy, resentment, etc.

If you think this is the dynamic at play for the final 53 in this 'survival of the fitist' cut throat business. Can't help you.

pretty sure the vets are just going to be happy to see their first round pick finally get his pads on.... the respect will come when he shows he belongs in the league, and he deserved to be a first round pick
in the end that is all that matters... will he help us win games.....if he can,... then every vet will respect that.

I knew it would be spin...spin...spin. Everyone knew the chargers were wrong in this thing and the full bonus being paid is their fault, not JBs. They ended up paying it anyway, so it's their fault he's not in camp. Players understand the business end of it more then the fans. Or in this case a bystander.

I agree. But theres also this scenario to consider:

Hes missed all of camp. A rookie with no camp practice. Huge uphill battle to contribute this season. So his play will suffer due to lack of camp practice, he wont perform like a #3 overall.

Hows he suppose to win over his teammates if hes playing poorly, due to missed time?

Not his fault that management had to be dragged into the new century. No one is expected to light it up as of game one, with or without camp. Let's see how he does and the respect will correlate with how he grows into the job.

off the cuff,.... I would say the coaches just put him in on third downs to rush the passer...
you don't need to know the scheme to just "Go get'em"
then as he learns while the season progresses,...he can get more playing time.

3rd down only pass specialist making the biggest up front bonus check on the roster as a rookie?

He better get those sacks. If he ends the season with 2.5 sacks, there will be trouble. The veterans aren't going anywhere. He better impress them.
