That's it. The Suns must make a trade to counter this move. The Lakers were already closing the gap on the Suns and now they have made a fantastic move IMO. If Sarver, Kerr and the Suns sit on their proverbial butts and do nothing then the Suns chances have diminished even more. The Suns cannot afford to do nothing.

Before you guys kill yourselves, a Lakers fan just told me that Rick Bucher *cough* says Bynum may be done for this season. If that is true, then I am not as scared.

Point is:

Gasol is soft.

And LOL @ people declaring them #1 in the west. They won't even win the Pacific rofl
Gasol is alittle soft. But when you add Gasol to Odom, & Bynum who are both very big & talented it takes the pressure off everyone. Lets not forget, all the rebounds they are gonna get and give KOBE second & third chances to score. Wow.

The problem is Kerr has his hands tied. He has a penny pinching owner and a coach that thinks midget ball is the way to go.

The Suns have a couple needs (size, another shooter, backup PG) and are only capable of making one big move in the next few weeks thanks to their contract and draft pick situation. Some if a move is to be made, then we have to address on of those needs with our limited assets and hope to fill in the others with waiver-wire pickups or something else off the scrap heap. I think size should be the priority.

Udonis Haslem could be intriguing. Jermaine O'Neal would come pretty cheap at this point. Zach Randolph is out there. The Heat would love to get Shaq off the books same with Philly with Dalembert, Chicago with Ben Wallace, and Sacramento with Brad Miller. The Nuggets would probably take Marion for Camby but D'Antoni nixed the idea.

All these guys though have major flaws and big money owed in the coming years. At this point, I'd say it's worth it as the Suns have pretty much no future anyways.

Count me in on the Artest gamble. He's on his last year of his contract (which conveniently fits in the KT trade exception), and he'll help on both ends of the floor.

Is he crazy? Yes. Is he a good basketball player? Yes. Is he worth the gamble? 2 months ago I would have said no way. Now? I think he just might be worth it.

The Suns already made their move. They took the two best non-core assets, (KT's expiring contract and picks) and used them entirely for Sarver's bottom line. A 1st this year for 3 million, and KT and 2 future picks for Luxury tax savings.

So let me get this right:

1) KT was the piece that would have given us the championship this year.

2) Sarver is to blame now that the Lakers got Gasol.

Hmm. Can't say I agree with those statements.

and nor should you.
KT wouldn't have won the championship for us, (although he obviously would help to have around being that he does what the rest of the suns can't, defend and rebound) but when you look at what sarver has sold lately (rondo, nate robinson, james jones, kt, future draft picks, am i missing anything? that second round pick in his first draft andruysicjandsj or something) maybe some of that could have been used to get someone of gasol's quality. instead the lakers did it.
i think that's why there seems to be some frustration with sarver, and hence, some venting.

1. Before this big trade yes

2. No, but the fact is that having KT with us right now we would have had an asset to trade along with the picks (possibly even stopping THIS VERY DEAL FROM GOING TO THE LAKERS), or a solid player that gives us at least a chance to compete. Without him we are grade A BONED. If sarver really wanted a championship, he would have bit the bullet just for one year instead of bending us over so far backwards in the KT deal that now are hands are almost tied.

You keep extenuating the circumstances here, why!? Sarver has screwed us bigtime!

*edit: Actually the answer to #2 is a possible yes I guess.

You are being ridiculous, stop setting up straw man arguments.

1) KT was _a_ piece, not _the_ piece. Tossing a piece for neglible return value is a move in the wrong direction. Do you deny that?

2) The Suns had no clue this Gasol trade would be around so they can't be faulted for that (assuming they would have made a similar trade for Gasol). However, this trade is a reminder of the many other NBA trades where teams trade an expiring contract for something of value. Generally, such a contract is traded to a crappy team with on older player on a long deal. The crappy team acquires more room to sign younger players and the good team adds a piece that can help in the immediate future. Sometimes they have to pay a premium for that new piece (like Gasol) but it is the type of move that a team within reach of a championship must risk to put them over the top. There is no other way to reasonably address a weakness without trading a player that is contributing a lot.

Haha, some foreshadowing on hoopsworld.com:

Radio host Vernon had an interesting take in his blog on Thursday saying,
I have pontificated on the fact that a fire sale could be coming so that [team owner] Heisley can save money and position the team to sell it. I think he wants to be able to sell to someone and be able to pitch that they will take over a product with quite a bit of flexibility that they can do whatever they want with. Unfortunately I think that Wallace was hired to carry out this plan. I hope I am wrong.

There is nothing that Heisley has done in the past 2 years to indicate that he is doing anything but cutting back on all costs. Saving money is what this franchise is about now.

With that being said, look for Pau to be part of a deal that brings back a big expiring contract. If what I think may go down, goes down, people are going to be really pissed. Have you ever considered what Kwame Brown would look like in a Grizzlies uni? I am just asking.

The Suns trade 2008, 2010 firsts, and a serviceable center with an expiring contract for cap relief.

The Lakers trade 2008, 2010 firsts, and a servicable center with an expiring contract for an All Star center.

Sarver is officially ********.

"Thanks much guys, you just made life horrible for the rest of us."

A post made at the grizzlies board on realgm.

That about sums it up.

You should see the chicago people, they are probably ready to start WW3 against memphis, I know if I was a bulls fan I would be absolutely livid right now.

When MEM said no to something like Duhon, Gordon, and Nocioni, CHI should have said, okay how about nothing plus two picks. Chicago's picks will certainly be better than the Lakers' picks. I don't know if they have the expiring contracts to offer though.

That's not what you were saying. You were saying that KT was the difference in us being a championship team and not being a championship team.

I don't think you are particularly one of the people here that believes Sarver is to blame for this trade, but there are plenty that do. The Lakers traded for Gasol?? SCREW SARVER!!!

It is about WHAT the lakers traded for gasol, compared to WHAT the suns traded for a bag of peanuts.

But who knows, maybe memphis would have still taken the LAL deal over our deal since KT would make them better then kwame does, and they want to be as horrible of a team as possible right now.

Yet listen to this, rumor has it right now that kwame will be bought out, and will return to the lakers for a minimum contract. So the question is, what if we would have done this with KT?

WE WOULD HAVE HAD GASOL AND KT FFS

So basically what I am saying is IF in fact kwame is bought out and returns to the lakers, I will lose every last ounce of my sanity and kill robert sarver with my bare hands.

Unfortunately, so are pretty much all of the Suns. Amare gets a half rebound per game more than Gasol?

Gasol is a legit NBA star, suggesting the Lakers (who have demolished us and had a better record with Bynum against a tougher schedule) can't beat us or anyone in the NBA in a seven game series is laughable. Right now, they're one of the favorites to win the title and they will not go away for at least another five or six years. Fisher/Kobe/Odom/Gasol/Bynum is a ridiculous lineup. They have three guys who get double-double's almost nightly in the frontcourt, one of if not the best players in the entire world in the backcourt, and fill out the rest of the roster with a savvy veteran PG (Fisher) and a young bench that provides energy (Turiaf), shooting (Radmanovic/Vujajic), defense (Ariza), playmaking (Farmar), and hoops IQ (Walton). And don't forget the head coach who has won nine NBA titles. These guys are going to very difficult to beat.

Legit NBA star? :lmao:

When the hell has he ever proven that? I think he made the all-star game once.. He can't even stay healthy

I don't know if the window is closed but you have to think this is the Suns last shot for a while. The Suns have built a descent record but have looked pretty average a lot of the time.

Meanwhile everybody in the west has gotten better. It may not be his fault but this team seemed to peak the year Sarver took over and has been slipping little by little each year since.

Of course its not Sarvers fault that the franchise PF that absolutely destroyed the Spurs in the playoffs 3 years ago is a shell of his former self.
