I say the Cards sign Reggie Wayne and that would help get Manning. Fitz and Wayne would be a pretty good combo.

Manning with Wayne and Fitzgerald would be sick, and with our young defense...we would have to be a Superbowl pick.

If the re-sign Campbell and sign Manning I'd be ecstatic. Wayne would be the icing on the cake. The Cards would be an 11-12 win team if that happens and would have to be a favorite to win the NFC. That would be so sick.

I don't think the cards would be the favorite for the Super Bowl with manning, but we'd certainly be in the conversation.

Manning would make any team an instant contender if he's good-to-go.

Agreed.... Top 3 in the NFC for sure. Top 5 in the NFL is reasonable.

After watching tonight's NFC Championship game the Cards should be in the conversation whether Manning comes to Arizona or not. As long as Campbell doesn't leave. I really believe we have the potential to have one of the top defenses in the NFC and if SF can go 13-3 with their offense we can do it with ours.

I really think the Niners had one of the luckiest seasons of the last 5 or 10 years. They played everyone at the perfect time. Had the right home & away games. And got almost ALL of the calls all season long.

I really think you could say the same about our 2008 season if you look at the 1st 2/3s & the way the playoff matchups went. Only problem...we went into the Clancy prevent two minutes too early :bang:

Whoa Kool Aid for DJ!! I like it.

And that defense ( and Fitz ) is why I think he comes here. I think we offer Manning the best team he has played on in the NFL all things considered.

I don't know. When you only allow 14.3 points per game (over a TD a game less than the year before) you're going to win a lot of those contests. Think about this. The Cards only allowed 19ppg the last half of the season. Do you realize how amazing that is for a Cardinal team especially one with zero offense? That Defense can win us a lot of games this fall.

Their defense is very good but I was talking to someone and, they know I follow the NFC West because of the Cards, was asked how good SF is. I said it seem like they have every break go their way this year. What were they something like +30 in turnover ratio? That's not going to happen very often. However, if they keep that defense in tact and get a legit QB that can win games for them, they will be tough for years to come. But, I guess you could say that about most teams too.

San Fran this year:

Got Seattle without Sidney Rice and still needed two late return TD's to win
Went to Cincy week 3 before Dalton & Green had time to gel.
Went to DC and played the skins without Landry, Hightower. DC's QB issues front and center.
Giants at home without Bradshaw.
Pittsburgh with a gimpy Rapist.

Do we beat Seattle if Rice doesn't play in Seattle? I think so.
Do we beat Cincy if we play them early in the season? I think so.
Do we beat the Skins if we play them at the right time? Without Hightower? I think so.
Do we beat the Giants without Bradshaw & a horrible ref call? I think so.
Did we get a gimpy Rapist? Maybe we pull that game out?

My point is this. The Niners got a ton of breaks this year, and had a lot of teams beat themselves against them. I dont care what their defense looked like.

All well and good but they also took a healthy on fire Giants teams into OT in the NFC championship game while losing the TO battle. Credit where credit is do - 49ers are a very good team.

and beat a very good Saints team, went on the road and beat a good (and previously undefeated) Lions team and for all those excuses made for their wins... they only lost four games all season by a total of 18 points, with two of those losses in OT.

they were a very solid football team. trying to argue otherwise don't make a lot of sense to me. does that mean they'll be as good next year? i don't think so. but they'll still have a shot to be pretty good and are def the favorites for our division going into the year.

Of course the record speaks for itself..... I didnt say they were bad. I said they were very lucky the way the season fell.

And I actually think the Lions and Saints beat themselves. Even with the ga,e winning drives in both games, the other teams carelessness played a major factor. And in the end, maybe the defense was the deciding factor in the mistakes the other team made.

Maybe it is a complete hatred..... I just think they got a lot of luck mixed in with that dominant defense.

The weather yesterday made the game much closer than i think it would have been otherwise. The Giants were much better on offense and marginally better on defense IMO.

I tend to agree with you.

SF was +28 in t/o ratio, with only 10 giveaways on offense. Those figures are the best (or maybe 2nd) the NFL has seen in 15 years or so.

Further - teams that tend to post really favorable t/o ratio numbers one year tend not to do it again the next ( with one exception: Green Bay has had really good t/o ratios for four years or so)

So - if SF next year simply goes to something simply good like +6 -- that could be the difference in three games.

As in the Browns being interested in him?

Also - Archie Manning was quoted recently as saying he was unsure whether Peyton would be ready to play next season.

Given the juxtaposition of that quote with the Peyton to Cards rumor, a possible translation:

No way he plays for AZ.

Didnt the article discussing the Browns "interest" revolve around the idea Kolb being waived so the Cards didnt have to pay his roster bonus?

If I am remembering correctly, even that rumor gives Kolb no trade value.

But honestly, the only question about Manning would be his back, and I am certain that by the time decisions would have to be made he would have let a lot of independent people take a look at his back, just for his own sake. If the concern is him gettin RE-injured then so be it. I would rather have Payton Manning and worry about him maybe hurting his neck, than have Kevin Kolb and worry about his head, his toe and his talent.

Peter King reported before the Pro Bowl started. He had 2 interesting tidbits.

1. Peyton still has not recovered fully and is having trouble regaining strength in his throwing arm.
2. Family friend Gil Brandt (Yes, that Gil Brandt) thinks Peyton will retire.

If #1 is true, he is done.
