Johnson's agent played a little hardball, and the Cards took their ball and went home. Typical. So, the Cards basically told Bryant Johnson to go screw himself. So much for the 17th pick in the 1st round.

The fact that we're even having this discussion is ludicrous.

Sorry! But by the sounds of this and especiqally Skkorps post it sounds as though the agent was playing hardball. Big surprise with Drew Rosenhaus

This does not mean he has to give up $$ in the first year SB, but to get it he will have to sign a longer term deal.

F you Drew for getting Tim McDonald out of here, you rat bastard.

I'm sure that would've been much more satisfying if Rosenhaus was actually Johnson's agent.

Maybe that's why Rosenhaus said no, it wasn't his client (-:

Right now I'm assuming Skorp is right. We can still sign him the way Jason described, if that doesn't work for them, they really should have considered that before rejecting the offers they turned down.

For all we know the picks were made alphabetically anyways so it's a bit hard to really complain about needing more for Johnson.

Is Drew Rosenhaus BJ's agent or Joel Segal?

I Like The Decision

Look, the money for Johnson was on the table, but his agent wanted a bigger piece of the pie. If Johnson had gotten more, it would have adversely affected negotiations with Pace. It sounds like Rod is between a rock and a hard place. As far as I'm concerned, Pace is more critical to the coming season and was the lesser of two evils. I'm sure Rod & Co. thought long and hard about this decision. One way or another, they'll work something out with Johnson. I don't think Johnson was going to start this year anyway. He'll be used in specific roles and won't be expected to pick up the entire offense. Pace on the other hand, will mostly likely start and will be critical to the overall improvement of the defense. You ask me, I think management made the right call and I stand by them. Sometimes, you can't have it all.

Thanks Shane. I'm glad I don't have to negotiate with some of the people on this board; I'd have alot of hold-outs.

Jim, check out my post on page 2 of this thread---

Understated, but very appropriate. Has everyone decided that the Cards can't possibly have a contingent plan in place to overcome this obstacle?. Why don't we wait to hear from Graves as to what they plan on doing?

The screaming was so loud and obnoxious that the darksiders never even bothered to respond.

I'm guessing that if Len had talked to Segal, he would have sourced it a little less hypothetically than "There now is a chance that Johnson and his agent will consider filing a grievance against the Cardinals." It sounds like that is an option that might be available to the agent, but unlikely.

It's not "obvious," but I think that if you look at the line, it doesn't seem very probable that Len had talked to Segal. I'm probably wrong.

so you're saying you're willing to concede that the cards will never have all their draft picks in by a reasonable date? that's a defeatist attitude.

pace is gonna be at camp soon! YEAAAAYYYY (more positive stuff)

What?
Whew! I read this whole thread! And now I have a head ache.

Great having Pace in. Johnson will get done too. He will just have to structure differently.
