I am hearing some fans fretting because the Suns, handcuffed by Beal's bad contract, probably can't keep Tyus Jones after this season. That would be unfortunate, but I did want to see more of Monte Morris anyway. If only because I don't think I really understand Morris yet, whereas I think I have Jones pegged to my satisfaction (as simply a conservative and efficient playmaker). Possibly part of why the Suns signed Morris in the first place was to replace Jones after they had to let Jones go.

We do not have his bird rights which limits the kind of contract we can offer. We won't be able to offer him what other teams can. He would have to sign another small contract next season before we would get them which I don't see that happening. He would be leaving a ton of money on the table. I am no cap guru but I think they can only offer him 120% increase from the vets minimum (4 million next season). They are saying he will command somewhere between 15 to 18 million a year next year as a free agent.

Not sure your reason is actually possible considering they signed Morris I think like a full month or two before they re-signed Jones.

Keeping Tyus may not be as hard as many here think.

There is not going to be much free agent money available, and Tyus is not going to be a priority free agent just like last year.

If he likes it here, and we promise we will pay him once we get the ability to he might stay another year on the min like Bol did - and like Okogie did.

Ok, let's set the over/under on number of games the big 3 play consecutively to 2.5. Anyone dare take the over?

We might have to wait until the trade deadline to see if the Big 3, remains the same Big 3.

I’m not sure we’re talking about similar situations. He’s so much more valuable than those two scrubs and I think he’s raising his value this season playing on a high profile team as opposed to toiling away in obscurity with the Wizards and the exposure this season would at least get a mid-level next year.

Yeah, I think Jones' agent just miscalculated the market. I'd imagine he could have gotten more somewhere else if he'd signed early.

Either way, Bol Bol is a true minimum contract player, so is Okogie, no one offering either of them more than the minimum does not surprise me, they're both fringe rotation guys who wouldn't see the court on about half or more of the teams in the league.

No chance. He’s a top-15 player at his position. Signing here for the minimum was the outlier.

This. He is going to get 15 to 18 million per seasons on the open market and the Suns can’t offer that. I would imagine he wants to cash out.

I'll take the over as a reverse curse. I've only hit on 1 of my last 10 bets so my luck has been awful. Might as well use my bad luck to help the Suns.

There are 9 teams 4 already in the 2nd apron and 5 more that would be in the 2nd apron if the use the mid level exception - so those most likely don't get used.

That leaves 21 teams. Only 5 or so teams are going to have any kind of cap space - and they are all bad except for Orlando.

Basically it seems to me if he isn't a top 30 free agent - he is going to get the minimum again.
