Looks like the Cardinals are about to have their best QB post Warner era. Kinda shocked this is even happening. Looks like they are doing their best to produce a quality football team while still rebuilding, especially if new reports are true and its a "bargain deal" as being reported.

I agree...I still wish it was a conditional 2014 pick, though. All in all, giving up a 6th-7th 2013 pick for Palmer is much better than a 6th-7th round project QB this year.

So if we trade for CP3 (lol) what's his current contract situation looking like? What happen to all that talk of him not wanting to go to a rebuilding team?

I have a feeling we are trading the AJ Jefferson pick for Palmer. If so, AJ Jeffereson for a starting QB? Not a bad deal.

His current contract will not be the same one he has here. My guess is that they redo it for three years, $30 million with 10-12 guaranteed. And who says we are rebuilding? Arians has said it a few times that we are not rebuilding.

If Palmer is traded to any team he would have to be in a sign and trade deal with him taking less money. He is currently scheduled to make, I think 13 million next season. More than any team would be willing to pay him. So not only are we waiting to see what is given up in a trade but also what his new contract would pay him.

As far as the contender talk...talk is cheap.

IMO you give up a 5th or later if you don't want to look stupid, but also don't want to play the waiting game. Personally, I would give up a 6th OR a 2014 conditional pick that tops out at a 4th rounder.

Again, I would give up a bit of compensation just so I could get him in the building as quickly as possible, but the contract will have to change. I would go heavy on offense for the draft and any further FA pickups. I still target a QB in round 1 of 2014 regardless.

My hope is that IF the Cardinals add Palmer, they still prioritize the offensive line and getting that fixed.

Coughing up one of the 6s for Palmer and upgrading the O-line makes us more competitive and takes some pressure off drafting a QB this year. I agree on upgrading the roster.
That sixth round pick is justifiable if you consider that we possibly won't be spending a second or third on a quarterback. You net a position player in the second or third round and a starter quality quarterback at the cost of a developmental quarterback who may not play for another year or two anyway.

10 mil per season for 3 years on a guy that's 33? I thought BA was quoted at not wanting to overspend on Palmer?

Bruce can call it what he wants, but when a team goes through this much transition, it looks like rebuilding to me. If not rebuilding, then restructuring for sure.

Michael Silver on Yahoo Sports is reporting the trade is almost done and will be posted soon. Silver is another guy I trust.

This from Mortenson:

Chris Mortensen‏@mortreport12m
Carson Palmer may not be "popular" but he did throw for 4,000 yards in 15 gms on an offensively-challenged team

So we're giving up a 6th, why? They have to release him now. Flynn is a 'Raider.

Because they are short on picks and as some on twitter have said, late round picks are still picks.

Need to get Palmer into the building ASAP so he can absorb BA's offense and develop chemistry with Fitz, Roberts, Floyd and Housler. My understanding is that the Raiders could delay his release.

Makes sense I guess. That delaying wouldn't help the Raiders fill out their roster either though.

If an entire contract was guaranteed, then I would agree. That is why I said 10-12 guaranteed. If he works out and is KWII, then that is a steal. If he stinks it up and you cut him after year 1 or 2, 10-12 guaranteed does not sting too much. If you cut him after year one, you eat about 4-5 next year and even less after year two.

Could it happen? Sure.

I just think the team is at the point with new set up where they want to set themselves up long term and not get locked into an aging QB.

Raiders will be greedy with their demands. Palmer will get released and land elsewhere IMO. .

One of our greatest problems is we do not know if we can find a QB next year or the years after that. Either they may not be one available when we draft or want be one good enough in the draft. You really cannot have a long range plan for a QB as good ones come along so infrequently and you may not be in a position to get one of them. This being said you need to play with the best QB you can get in a given year taking into consideration his cost and ability. Occasionally you will find a Kurt Warner but more than likely find an average NFL QB if you are lucky. Put the best team on the field you can each year. Do not count on the future because in the NFL the future is now.

Per Jason La Canfora:

Jason La Canfora‏@JasonLaCanfora2m
I'm hearing Carson Palmer, whose contract called for $13M in Oakland, will end up making $8M with the Cardinals

Im fine with that as long as it wasnt for more than a 6th rounder.

More from La Canfora:

Jason La Canfora‏@JasonLaCanfora22s
Once Palmer is on board, the Cards may be able to get a late-round pick for QB Brian Hoyer, who signed his 2nd round tender
