Peter King wrote about the rumor in his MMQB column.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/nf...palmer-kevin-kolb-monday-morning-quarterback/

Two deals feel inevitable this morning: Carson Palmer to Arizona, Matt Flynn to Oakland. They make too much sense not to happen. Sense, yes. Whether they'll solve problems in quarterback-needy places ... that's another issue. Palmer has a much better chance when it comes to raising Arizona than Flynn has to save Oakland.

Palmer to the Cardinals. It's likely Oakland gets a fourth- or fifth-round pick in return, and Palmer, 33, signs a deal commensurate with his recent performance but recognizing his chance for a revival playing for Bruce Arians and playing with Larry Fitzgerald. I understand why Palmer wouldn't take a financial haircut in Oakland: I wouldn't have either, knowing the Raiders were a short-term place and understanding if he held his ground, the Raiders might enable him to go to a place that fit him better.
A couple of things about this move that I like: Last year, I remember going to Indianapolis to write about the Colts when Arians was the interim coach. "I hate the West Coast Offense,'' Arians said. Arians wanted a big-armed quarterback stretching the defense, and it showed in Luck's numbers. In 2012, Luck had the second-longest average pass length in the league, 10.17 yards downfield. Match that with Palmer's desire to show he can be the big-armed thrower Arians needs. Believe me, Palmer chafes at the impression he doesn't have the arm he used to. In his first half-season with the Raiders, he was among the NFL's yards-per-attempt leaders, because coach Hue Jackson liked to stretch the defense.
Let's not be delusional about Palmer. You can't say he's a premier player anymore, but you also can't say he can't play. He threw for 4,018 yards, and his interception percentage (14 picks on 565 attempts, 2.5 percent) was lower than that of Drew Brees and Eli Manning. He wants to play the Arians way. I believe Arians is the best coach in the league for Palmer. I also believe Palmer wouild buy in totally to Arians' plan, and I hear he's excited about a chance in Arizona. A move would allow him to stay close to his southern California home, and to play in a system that wouldn't be a reach for his game. And Palmer would have the kind of reliable deep-threat receiver in Larry Fitzgerald that few quarterbacks have at their disposal.
Does that mean Arizona will contend? I doubt it sincerely. The leaky offensive line must be significantly better to give the immobile Palmer a chance to play well. But of all the quarterbacks on the market or in the 2013 draft, Palmer gives the Cardinals the best chance to be competitive as the fourth-best team in a suddenly very good NFC West.

For the first time in a very long time [since Kurt Warner retired] I'm actually somewhat excited about the possibility of having an actual NFL starting caliber quarterback on our roster. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good, and that's what this would be, having Carson Palmer fall into our laps for a reasonable contract and a middle round draft choice, or even JUST a reasonable contract.

For once, I actually agree with Peter King. Carson Palmer makes the Cardinals respectable. Not a Super Bowl contender, but respectable and makes 8-8 a very reachable goal IMO. I just hope this isn't Peyton Manning all over again.

This is the key right here.

If Palmer is excited about coming here and would buy into BA's system then I say we should do it.

I just don't want to give up too much and make sure the contract is low base with incentives.

I love Fitz. I love his hands. i love his catching radius. i love his ability to make big clutch plays.

But "a deep threat?" I realize he's special at back side and jump ball receptions, but I can't recall too many times where Fitz got behind a defender, caught the ball going away and took it all the way to the house. (I'll concede this might be because he seldom if ever had a QB who could consistently deliver the ball deep, but I still think the "deep" reputation is more a creature of the media than it is fact - at the very least, it still is yet to be proved).

In short, Fitz is a lot of things but he's not Mike Wallace. (He is HOF material though).

8-8 shouldn't be a goal. Even after a 5 win season. 8-8 might hold us back more than you would think. Build a winning team right. It took SF a good five drafts to be relevant again. Build from the ground up and stop trying to take SHORTCUTS.

Fitz may not be a deep threat, but Tavon Austin is ...

If he comes it should be on a low base, yes. Don't give up anything either.

Interesting I was wondering where in Cali he had a place, isn't Phx about the same distance from LA as San Fran?

I do agree Palmer is the type of QB Arians wants.

Phx would actually be closer to both LA and San Diego, than San Francisco is.

Larry Fitzgerald has been a good soldier over the last three seasons. It's worth acquiring Carson Palmer if for no other reason than to make him relevant again IMO.

Palmer is a bridge to the future. I'd rather watch a competitive 8-8 team than a 5-11 or 2-14 team. And I'd rather watch a competitive team than one than gets blasted 59-0. Starting a career backup is a sure recipe for another lousy season.

You people are crazy hoping for a tank job. I want to see a fun foot all team. Palmer is by far the best option available. Everyone is crying about wanting a long term answer. Palmer could play for another 5 years. That's along time in football.

With Palmer here we could still win football games and when we target the QB we want to draft we can make a trade to get the pick it takes to draft him.

Wanting a tank job is stupid.

This is exactly how I feel.

IMO you give up a 5th or later if you don't want to look stupid, but also don't want to play the waiting game. Personally, I would give up a 6th OR a 2014 conditional pick that tops out at a 4th rounder.

Again, I would give up a bit of compensation just so I could get him in the building as quickly as possible, but the contract will have to change. I would go heavy on offense for the draft and any further FA pickups. I still target a QB in round 1 of 2014 regardless.

My hope is that IF the Cardinals add Palmer, they still prioritize the offensive line and getting that fixed.

Fitz's size and savvy and body control makes him a deep threat even if he lacks elite speed. It's pretty short sighted to imply that it's only guys who can run a 4.41 who are capable of stretching defenses.

I assure you that defensive coordinators are more worried about a guy who their corners can run with and can catch the football than a guy their corners have to give a cushion to but aren't dependable when the ball's in the air.

The 2 picks the Raiders sent for Flynn are in 2014 and 2015 draft. Both are later rounds

Oakland also trying to finalize a trade that would send Carson Palmer to Arizona for one late pick. Palmer would restructure contract in AZ.

I trust Glazer and his reports. He doesn't just put a bunch of garbage out on Twitter.

Those who know soon-to-be former Raiders QB Carson Palmer believe he was hoping to wind in Tampa Bay with Bucs. Doesn't look that way now.

Chris Mortensen ‏@mortreport 23h
If the Raiders do deal Carson Palmer to Arizona, it will be at bargain basement price, not in that 4th/5th round range, per source.

When you're low on draft picks, even a 6th or 7th rounder has value for Raiders RT @thebaines123: Why not cut him ? Just get rid of him?

Looks like the Cardinals are about to have their best QB post Warner era. Kinda shocked this is even happening. Looks like they are doing their best to produce a quality football team while still rebuilding, especially if new reports are true and its a "bargain deal" as being reported.
