over NE @ Mia
or SD vs Min
or HOU vs Indy

...dont think so :D

Hope your right & we're 1-0 but if I'm a betting man those 3 games are locks straight up & probably against the line.

Absolutely I think that's the case! I'm not the only one. As much as I can't stand Cowherd, the Cardinals were his LOCK of the week. I just don't understand the negativity on this board. We're playing @ home against the stinkin Panthers, who won ONE friggin game last year. On top of that, they have an entirely new staff in a shortened preseason with a QB that is so, so, so unprepared for the NFL. I know it's too early for some to come to grips with, but the Cardinals will be SIGNIFICANTLY better than last year & even better than the 10-6 team from 2009. The Cardinals will have to turn the ball over at least 4 times to lose this game.

In your picks above, Miami, Min & even an Indy team without Manning, are EONS better than the Panthers. Hell, Miami & Minn may even win. Indy will be sky high to prove their detractors wrong.

Upsets do happen, but it sickens me to think that I've seen at least 4-5 posters that are picking the Panthers. R U Kidding me????? Hey, to each their own.

The Cardinals are the best bet of the weekend.

The Cardinals tend to play to their competition when it comes to bad teams. Anytime someone says the Cardinals have an easy win coming up it raises a red flag for me. There are just so many unknowns going into this weekend.

The Panthers have far, far, far more unknowns than the Cardinals do. This is a Cardinals forum, isn't it??????

As bad as our play was last season we were still 4-4 at home. Carolina was 0-8 last year on the road.

John Fox > Ron Rivera. Cards will win.

Yes it is, and I've seen the Cardinals blow games against really bad teams on an almost yearly basis since I became a season ticket holder 15 years ago. Whenever people start saying the Cardinals should win this game it usually doesn't bode well.

I think the Cardinals are a better team. I just think Cam gets lucky a few times because our pass rush can't get to him and our secondary is a huge question mark.

Having been a Cardinal fan since 1964, I understand the pessimism. It's just too early for me to go down that path.

The Panthers won 2 games last season.

And who was one of the 2 teams they beat?

The Cardinals.

The only thing about a Cardinal football game that can be expected is that something unexpected will happen.

First: There's no better bet right now than Cleveland at home over Cincy. While I totally understand that elimination pools would be better off (maybe) going with Houston, Cincy has few peripheral weapons and little running game or offensive line.

Second: Do you forget somehow that the Cards lost to this team that had the first pick in the draft less than a year ago? Cam Newton even in his first start is a better than Jimmy Clausen. Yeah, they're on the road, but we have a new quarterback and new defensive coaching staff, as well. Would you rather have a defensive coach who's never called a regular-season play before, or a guy who has done it for two different playoff teams?

Third: The defense wasn't the problem for the 2010 Carolina Panthers, it was the offense. DeAngelo Williams gives us fits, and after a 27-yard rush, Jonathan Stewart will be there to keep the defense from having a break. Meanwhile, Todd Heap isn't going to present any problems for Thomas Davis, and Jon Beason is the best linebacker in the NFL that no one has heard of.

I expect that the Cards'll win this game, but I don't expect them to cover.

If we had the same team as last year, I would agree. We've done more to upgrade our team than 90% of the league. Early on, the Panthers will actually be worse than they were last year. Newton will eventually be a factor, but it won't be anytime soon.

Carolina-6

The Kolb-era gets off to a great start, while Beanie wins back some of his previous fans with a 125 yard performance.

Meanwhile, I will be stuck at the wedding of my girlfriend's best friend and halfheartedly questioning if relationships are really that much more important than football.

Nobody ever has the same team as the year before but for some reason the same weird stuff keeps happening at Cardinals games.

We should beat the Panthers but who the heck knows. I'm sure those 40,000 Vikings fans at SDS never thought we could beat them. And how the heck do we lose twice to the 4and9ers by identical 31-28 scores in OT in 2004 to give SF their only two wins. And how in the heck do we win two Overtime games in a row without ever getting the ball on offense? We're 2-5 versus the worst team in the NFL since 2004. But we put almost a 1000 yards of offense up versus two of the NFL's top defenses in the Pittsburgh and Green Bay playoff games.

The Cards are just a weird franchise. Well probably no weirder than any other. I just notice the weird stuff because I'm such a fanatic Cards fan.

Love me some Beason and fear him almost as much as Willis; however, he had foot surgery a little over two weeks ago (3 screws inserted into his left heel) and hasn't done much running in the last two months. He will be somewhat limited and certainly not playing 100%.

I also like the Browns as a suicide pick this week!! I'd stay away from the Houston game.

do you guys remember the 31-10 rout of the Dolphins in Wiz first home game in his second year? God I'd love to see that again.

I'm all for more of those games! It's better for my heart.

that was followed up by that thrashing of Buffalo... wasn't that like 41-17? Man, Wiz had his teams ready to play at home for the majority of his first three seasons. Gotta get back to that homefield advantage he established.

The oddity behind that is in 2009, we went 4-4 at home but 6-2 on the road (almost 7-1, stupid Titans!).

yeah... i remember that too. Weren't we like 12-4 in Wiz's first two seasons at home? Unbelievable that a Cardinals team was one second away from a 7-1 record on the road.

Reasons I think we can lay a turd against the Panthers in Week 1:

1)It is week 1 & teams generally play harder in the first game & bad teams generally play pretty competetive close games.

2)No offensive or defensive tendencies. Works both ways...good & bad.

3)We have had problems stopping the run last year & have the same front 7 starting other than Dan Williams.

4)The Panthers strength is their run game & I highly doubt Rivera will put much on Newtons shoulders other than managing the game unless they get way behind. Williams/Stewart & their Oline have the advantage over our front 7 IMO

5) Our starting 4 LB's are undersized against a big physical Oline.

6) Newton is the X-factor in Carolinas run game. Horton has already stated he will blitz all day against the Panthers & if we aren't playing zone Newton could have a big day with his legs. Our Dline must maintain their lanes or we have serious problems.

7) IMO Carolinas D is better than they played at times last year

8) Kolb is going to be a solid if not great QB for the Cards, but I'm worried about his pocket presence. All preseason #4 freaked out at the first sign of pressure, he needs to step up & make his reads.

9) Will Wiz do what he hasn't been willing to do since his arrival? Run the ball...Carolina has been bad during the preseason against the run. Pound the rock!!!

10) Steve Smith has been a Cardinal killer in the past...can a rookie CB or unproven Jefferson limit his 1 big play that has haunted us in the past?

11) The thought of having an injured SS in AW covering TE's Shockley/Olsen sends shivers down my spine...lets hope Newton doesnt have time to take advantage of this potential mismatch!!!

12) Carolina has owned us in the past regardless of records...but I guess that doesn't matter...I've heard & seen this broken record before.

We clearly have much more talent & hoping we spank that ass 34-3, but I'm fearful we're in for a war!!! Here's hoping to 1-0 instead of a meltdown 0-1.

If we had the same team as last year, I would agree. We've done more to upgrade our team than 90% of the league. Early on, the Panthers will actually be worse than they were last year. Newton will eventually be a factor, but it won't be anytime soon.

The front 7 defensively is still the same except for Dan Williams. Throw in 2 young unproven CB's & a hurting SS, so expecting a major turnaround defensively regardless of who the DC is IMO a major reach.

Speaking of that game and survivor league picks. The next week was when Miami upset New England and wrecked all the survivor leagues in the country.

The Whizzinator is 3-1 in home openers. Soon to be 4-1 and be second to Coryell for most victories in home openers in Cardinals history. Coryell never lost a home opener in St.Louis. Went 5-0. Beat the Redskins, Eagles, Falcons, Packers and Bears. Loved what that man did for the Cardinals.

Tobin was 3-2 as was Charley Winner.

I'll go 34-28 Cards. Win keeps the kool-aiders happy, Williams/Stewart/Newton torching our D on the ground gives the darksiders plenty of ammunition heading to week 2.
