Speaking of that game and survivor league picks. The next week was when Miami upset New England and wrecked all the survivor leagues in the country.

The Whizzinator is 3-1 in home openers. Soon to be 4-1 and be second to Coryell for most victories in home openers in Cardinals history. Coryell never lost a home opener in St.Louis. Went 5-0. Beat the Redskins, Eagles, Falcons, Packers and Bears. Loved what that man did for the Cardinals.

Tobin was 3-2 as was Charley Winner.

Charley Winner was a decent coach, but could NEVER put 2 winning seasons together: '66 (8-5-1), '67 (6-7-1), '68 (9-4-1), '69 (4-9-1), '70 (8-5-1). What was sad was that not even the 9-4-1 team made the playoffs. In today's wildcard format, 3 of those teams probably would have been in the playoffs. Ironically, Winner was fired after the 1970 season, even though he went 8-5-1. Of course they started 8-2-1 & then proceeded to choke the season away!

yeah... i remember that too. Weren't we like 12-4 in Wiz's first two seasons at home? Unbelievable that a Cardinals team was one second away from a 7-1 record on the road.

Something like that, it was incredible.

I converted my brother into a Cards fan around 2008, and we went to a bunch of games together. He had a six-game winning streak of games he attended. No joke. He never left upset.

It was as if we were unbeatable at home for a while.

Exactly why I hope Wiz isn't on the hot seat if we fail 2 make the playoffs this year. Sometime a coaching change isn't always a good thing!!! IMO Mr B pulled the plug on Stallings/ Hanifan & possibly Bugle too early.

That's our boys. Something they were still doing 20 years later.

But the only time I've ever been more upset with the Cardinals than when they fired Winner was when the team didn't even throw a pass to Bobby Joe Conrad when he had a streak of like 95 consecutive games with a reception.

95 isn't a big deal now but it was then. I know Conrad was really upset about it because I think it had something to do with a bonus. But then the only guy who could tell you the real story was Bob Broeg and he's no longer with us.

Back to Winner. How do you fire a guy who beat the Cowboys 20-7 and 38-0 and built a defense that gave up only 6 total points over a 4 game stretch?

Trivia: Stormy Bidwill, not Bill, was president of the team at the time.

Cards win 76 to negative 3. Feely misses a extra point in the first half and gets cut on the spot. #11 takes over and does not miss one.

While I hope for the best, I do fear for the worst. This game has "too tough to figure" written all over it.

Cards 20

Scams 23

Newton kills us running on broken pass plays.
Have to agree about Newton running around. Unless we put a spy on him he will gain a lot of yards on third down plays.

Cards have trouble getting into the end zone.

Cards - 19

Panthers - 13

I'm with you.

Our boys are going to kick the crap out of Carolina tomorrow. It's going to be Miami part deux.

Whatever score combination has the Cards winning by more than 7 1/2 and the total being over 36 1/2 is what I predict. And yes I have put my money where my mouth is.

Cards dominate the Panthers. They have had this game circled due to last years embarrassing loss to them. I see 34-17 but not even that close.
Go Cards!!

I'm pretty excited that the season is about to begin. :)

Cards 24, Panthers 21. :) The d makes a late game stand to win the game.

Cards win, 35 - 20. The Bean hears about his new nickname and refuses to play, citing it as cruel and unusual punishment. All is not lost though as Fred Taylor finds the end zone twice while averaging 4.9 YPC.

First, to all of you with fears about this game....don't worry. That's normal for Cardinal Fans.

I think the cards win.

19-13

Cards move the ball but come up short in the red zone. One td and 4 fg's.

Panthers will make it a game and may even have a chance to win it in the closing minutes. Unless we do some really dumb crap like allow a punt or kickoff return I just don't think Cam Newton is quite ready to win games yet.

Remember, even the great Peyton Manning only won a few games in his rookie season and he was WAY more seasoned than Newton is at this stage of the game.

In your picks above, Miami, Min & even an Indy team without Manning, are EONS better than the Panthers. Hell, Miami & Minn may even win. Indy will be sky high to prove their detractors wrong.

What was that again...like I said the loss of Manning is a huge blow to the mindset of the Colts regardless of what the players think or say. And his loss further shows the weaknesses (defensively) of their club, much the way Warners did. #1 pick here they come ;)
