SUNS need to sign at least 2 of the following:

PJ Brown
Melvin Ely
Josh Powell
Alexander Johnson
Lawrence Roberts
James Singleton
Brian Skinner
Michael Ruffin
Otis George
Pape Sow

---------------------------------

-I'd trade away PIATKOWSKI along with a 2nd round pick for cash.

-Use that saved money to sign a minimum deal to PJ Brown for 1 final year before his knees give out.

-Then use 3 million out of the 8 million saved from the Kurt Thomas deal to sign MELVIN ELY to a 2-year deal.

OK, now narrow that down to the guys that are going to be cheap enough for the Suns to sign and is also an upgrade over Kurt Thomas.

Chicago’s P.J. Brown is at the top of the free-agent list, although there are indications that he’s leaning toward retirement. Chris Mihm resigned with the Lakers on Thursday, while players like Brian Skinner are a possibility.

Brian Skinner.....

Dear God.

Dear God.

That's my point. Is Brian Skinner a replacement for Kurt? If we don't get PJ Brown, how is this team not worse in the middle?

I think if PJ Brown was going to retire, he would have. My read on it is that when the Suns met with him at the start of free agency, he made a demand that would be vastly less than KT but more than vet minimum. The Suns had the cap space but not the LT to do it.

Nor would PJ come with KT still on the roster. He does not want to just sit.

I think just about every one of them, (besides Ely) the Suns could afford. Maybe not Skinner.

Thanks for the insight.

So how does PJ like his eggs? Whats his favorite movie?

Brian Skinner wouldn't be totally useless... he'd save Amare from a few foul calls - because the refs would be so busy whistling Skinner. The guy fouls everyone that comes within reach.

I know he doesn't play like a big man, but I miss Tim Thomas. Having him out there to spread the floor against the Spurs would've been great, especially if that forced the Spurs to put Duncan on him or Amare.

I was just thinking about him a few minutes ago. I would laugh my :moon: off if they brought him back with the trade exception ... and then I would smile. He was fabulous for the Suns that half-season.

Technically, the Suns could do a deal because of their TE. But in practical terms he would not solve the problem of low post defense.

I wasn't trying to think technically, but logically. Once Yi signs his contract, you could trade him for Pike/Marks if you wanted to.

you know, that was honestly one of my first thoughts when i heard trade exception. he was one of the most effective bigs we've had b/c of his skillset, which would be enhanced playing with amare who draws the inside attention. were the clips happy with his play last season? would they be happy to unload his contract for our 2012 first round pick? i'd try to trade for him in a heartbeat. he hit big shots in the playoffs.

seriously George, you've got to stop posting outright fabrications (Suns met with him at the start of FA) and then following it up with speculation on said complete fabrications. It can be really confusing and could possibly derail any meaningful conversation.

I read elsewhere that Kerr and Brown have/had the same agent...unconfirmed...yet quite coincidental as well as supportive to the comments/speculation from Curious George. Why wouldn't the SUNS contact FA's they have interest in ? ....its legal

I think he was implying that the Suns met with him (or maybe he just meant talked with, but used the wrong word), which I don't think has been documented anywhere. I'm sure the Suns have spoke with his agent quite a few times since the free agency period began though.

It'd be nice to see a list of big men with expiring contracts, who might be good pickups at the trading deadline.

Whats your problem? Its like you go out of your way to be a ******** to him. I don't see anything wrong with what he said, he was speculating, who cares? Did he piss in your corn flakes one day? I've never seen anyone on any message board, sports related or not, who goes out of their way to be so rude to one poster, I'm sick of it, someone needs to call you out on it.

Cheesbeef, I like and respect you, however, Hooverdam is right. Why are you so hard on George?
