So his contract COULD be extended? Wow, I had no idea. Why worry about him leaving next year, then?
Well, both sides have to agree, of course. I suspect that Stoudemire would take a huge extension from the Suns if they offered it, but he might not. I certainly don't get the impression that he'd agree to a home-town discount.
He's just 27 and about to enter his prime.
NBA players need to be "in" their prime by 27, not "about to enter" it.
He seemed to have fully recovered from his injury.
Not to some of us. If you compare video highlights of him pre- and post-surgery, there seems to be a pretty clear difference. And in any case, the pseudocartilage that microfracture creates is only a temporary fix. It isn't as durable as regular cartilage, and it is destined to break down.
I'd rather see him being signed to a long-term contract then accepting role-players in a trade.
It's a tough call. If the Suns can't get good value for Stoudemire, they might as well keep him, at least for now.
A line-up of
Nash
Richardson
Hill
Stoudemire
Chandler
with Barbosa, Dudley, Clark, Amundson and Lopez coming of the bench sounds good to me.
(You forgot Dragic.) I agree, but we don't really know whether Wallace for Chandler is an option. Lots of rumors this time of year are bogus, and maybe that's one of them.
