Considering a good chunk of this board bitched about the officiating after every one of the Suns losses this year, people coming back and saying "I told you so' is pretty amusing. On top of that, any fixer would tell you they do not affect the outcome of a game but rather the margin of victory or defeat.

Ahhhhhh bad memories, that was the game where Duncan was fouling all over the place but never got called for that crucial 4th or 5th. That on top of Nash getting hacked non-stop while driving and Amare being sent to the bench immediately after entering the game because of foul trouble all night.

Unless the line on that particular game was even, or below 2 points.

Or the ref steers the game into a direction that favors one team (Fouling out Amare, not fouling out Duncan, letting Nash be hacked) and then at the end of the game doing some makeup calls to let the other team get within the spread. Makes sense doesnt it?

Especially with the Suns since there is always danger we could run away with it.

It's on Yahoo's main page. It is on the NYTimes main page. There is a section on ESPN's main page as well.

It is pretty big.

Stat's comments of foul trouble after game 3 this year

"There's nothing I could do about it at that point," Stoudemire said. "I just had to watch my guys fight and keep it close.

Bill Simmons comments after Game 3

Donaghy was one of the refs in Game 3 of the Spurs-Suns series. Here's what Bill Simmons said at the time: "Congratulations to Greg Willard, Tim Donaghy and Eddie F. Rush for giving us the most atrociously officiated game of the playoffs so far ... Most of the calls favored the Spurs, but I don't even think the refs were biased -- they were so incompetent that there was no rhyme or reason to anything that was happening. Other than the latest call in NBA history (a shooting foul for Ginobili whistled three seconds after the play, when everyone was already running in the other direction), my favorite moment happened near the end, when the game was already over and they called a cheap bump on Bruce Bowen against Nash, so the cameras caught Mike D'Antoni (the most entertaining coach in the league if he's not getting calls) screaming sarcastically, "Why start now? Why bother?" What a travesty."

I remember that shooting foul against Ginobili. Suns already had posession and where going to score on the fastbreak, suddenly the whistle came when Nash almost crossed halfcourt it seemed like and Ginobili went for 3 FTs.

I remember a game 7 of the Western Finals years back where the Lakers were playing the Blazers and Portland was up by about 10 with about 2 minutes left. This was the first year LA won the title with Shaq I believe. In the last few minutes there were numerous non-calls as LA hacked Portland and they were calling crazy, rediculous calls against Portlans. Somehow LA came back and won. I'll never forget it, because I saw th egame at a sports book in Vegas, and I saw so many Laker fans celebrating, and all I kept thinking was how much I thought the game was fixed.

I bet (pardon the pun) that this runs deep. The NBA is f'ed.

This post is so rediculous that it is "pretty amusing." To think the spread is the only thing effected by this scandal, and not the over under as well, and to think it has no effect on game outcomes is "pretty amusing." If an official, or officials of a game have anything on their mind, but the actual game such as point spreads or over/under lines, the game is effected. The game 3 of the Suns vs. Spurs series as well as any game this idiot has been involved with is a big deal to the fans, league, and the integrity of the game.

Yeah but none of this would ever effect the outcome of the game! Duhhhhhhh! All the apologists for the NBA officiating look pretty silly now! The question is whether this is the only rigging going on or just the one who got caught. Well folks thats what happens when there are such variable standards for calling fouls, it can all be manipulated so much easier.

They can't catch guys deliberately making bad calls because there are no real standards.

THIS IS INSANE. I guarantee if it wasn't for this bastard making ridiculous calls in game 3 and stern's idiotic ruling the suns would have a championship right now.

Now the sun are giving away kurt thomas who imo is the best defender (not just interior) and rebounder on the suns and basically killing their chances of "repeating" (winning their second straight championship)

I'm losing my mind.

So Donaghy was a ref in the Suns/Spurs game 3 last year? The game that most of us regarded as one of the worst officiated games we've ever seen? The game after which even some Spurs fans admitted they got the benefit of most calls? Wow. What a surprise. I guess he must have bet on the Spurs.

I hope that G3 vs the Spurs is not one of those fixed games, that would be really really tough to swallow.

Its a shame this can happen in the NBA. Donaghy has made it for 2 years and not the league but the FBI discovered the scandal. There are a lot of concerns about the NBA recently, people are more and more disappointed in it, I wonder what should happen to get rid of Stern.
