I don't need to prove it to think that I and many others disliked it. But, to comment, it was crushed on Rotten Tomatoes, everyone I talked to either hated it or, at best, thought it was lifeless and uninspired, and IMO it was worse than the original. I'd say that makes for a bad remake.

Sure, there have been loads of worse remakes, but that doesn't make this one a GOOD remake. It was boring and brought nothing to the table.

You're telling me you liked this one? If so, okay. I'll disagree greatly with your opinion, but okay. Are you instead just arguing the point, though?

the original was immensely better therefore, it is a bad remake.

If they do Starship Troopers well, and faithful to the book, I'm all for it. It is a terrible movie--I mean, I love it for the ultra cheese factor--so I'd be okay with it.

The problem with the more faithful Total Recall was that it brought...nothing. It was beige, boring and--most damning--just another action movie. It COULD have been a good remake; it just wasn't.

What did you want? The same campiness that was in the Arnold version? Or a faithful adaptation of the story it was based on?

lol You make it sound like they couldn't make a GOOD faithful adaptation of the source material. It was sad, prototypical action fare. That elevator/cube scene was a good 10 or so minute waste of film. Campy isn't the only way to make an original sci-fi adaptation good.

Hmm, you didn't answer the question. But ok.

I like that movie.

The problem with trying to made true-to-book movies when the book is sci fi, is that sci fi books are notoriously complex. Their writers are usually very obsessive, odd people. Just look at that dude who founded scientology.

And so theres usually way too much subject matter to fit into 120 minutes to satisfy the super critical fans of the book.

And moreover, the goal of movie makers is to create a movie to appeal to the masses, not one to honor the source material.

Remakes of awful movies are par for the course.

And yes, I said it. Starship Troopers is TERRIBLE.
It is terrible, but that's what makes it so good. It's like a 50's B movie. Mars Attacks was the same way. Bad movie, but the charm was its cheese. Not you Cheese.

That's the problem with the remakes; they're too real. I like the remakes - Robocop, Dredd and Recall to a lesser extent. But i look at them as their own movie. So many movies today are 'real' or 'grounded' or 'serious', etc. The remakes reflect the time in which they're made and comparing them to the original is an injustice to both, imo.

Who give a crap what rotten tomatoes says. Go watch it and if you enjoy it great.

Of course I didn't, because you posited it as an either/or where either I wanted it cheesy like the original OR a remake closer to the source material--giving you ammunition if I answer the latter. I mean, nice try at a trap question, but it's not an either-or proposition. In the remake, I would have liked it closer to the source material, but GOOD. It failed.

I enjoyed starship troopers as a cheesy popcorn movie. Totally not with a remake. You can easily make some other space military movie called space wars or something

C'mon! Kate Beckinsale - in her underwear - and Jessica Biel in the same movie... That alone makes it worth the watch

So while it may be considered a remake, others might consider it an adaptation that is more faithful to the source material.

Was it an erotic re imagining? Cuz I'd be down for that!

Totally!

I got to go to the Rifftrax of starship troopers and it was freaking hilarious! I loved how they handled the nude scenes. haha

What is Starship Troopers without the campiness? LOL How can anyone think that movie is terrible it's like one of the best comedies of all time. I mean you cant call a movie that's terrible on purpose terrible, that's the lamest of the lame!!!

"The only good bug is a dead bug!"

"Who needs a knife in a Nuke fight???"

"Rico I'm dying, but it's ok cuz I got to bang you!"

and my personal favorite... "You're some sort of big, fat, smart-bug, aren't you?"

How bout the totally random shot at Mormons in that movie? LoL (for the record I saw that movie with my at the time mormon girlfriend and her brother and they thought the untimely demise of "Port Joe Smith" was hilarious)

Oh man and the bug bombs destroying the entire fleet TWICE??? God that movie is great I'm digging out my DVD of it right now lol.

That movie was 100% tongue in cheek just like Robocop. Verhoeven had a terrific sense of humor and a unique way of making statements about society. That's what made me nuts about the Robocop remake, they completely missed the point!

By far the worst part of that movie was Neil Patrick Harris' final line after reading the mind of the bug. Add to that he was basically a Nazi and you have the ultimate in stupidity.

Loved the cheese of Starship Troopers. Will always be a fan of that cheese. That doesn't mean though I wouldn't mind seeing a different take on it. As much as I enjoyed the original, I don't hold it sacred or anything.

Haha yes; "He's afraid! He's AFRAID!!!"

rofl I'm sorry I know it's completely ridiculous that movie just makes me laugh so hard.

Trying to get back on topic here, but I cant seem to come up with anything I want to see remade bad.

Ok this is crazy and borderline blasphemy but,,, if they were to remake RAD,,,, I'm just sayin, I'd go. I'd be skeptical, but still, I'd go. :)

I just feel like any movies that were actually good the first time around dont really need to be remade, but I guess if that were true we wouldn't have gotten to enjoy classics like Scarface and A Fistfull of Dollars.

Ok how about Earnest goes to camp starring Jim Carrey? Ehh? Ehhh??? Nobody????
