This would be a great post except those two weren't BPA when we picked.

Your opinion. Coming from a guy that wanted to draft Jeremy Beal in the second round just two months ago, and I wouldn't touch him even in the 7th round...

I find it REALLY hard to believe that they are drafting BPA here. They would either have to think this guy was outstanding (and be the only ones who do) or think other guys around him are terrible in comparison (which having a lot of the need targets being snapped up right after this pick not balance that out).

Dunno, but it doesn't look like BPA.

Just to chime in (and I hate the pick) They arent the only ones. The NFL network crew liked the pick and Mayock LOVED it.

Scouting reports written by real scouts or Mel Kiper? Why is it that these guys are WAY wrong all the time? Is it that there is some difference on opinions on players and that this process is subjective. I argue this every year, good draft or bad draft. It's the same annoying song and dance every year on this board.

The front office is wrong most of the time. I just don't make judgments on players I've never watched, and I also trust the opinion of Mike Mayock.

That's what I was wondering about...sounds like the team was bad and couldn't get him the ball, then? Or did they even utilize the TE much in the offense?

I want to like the kid...he's got great measurables. I am wary of the lack of on-field production.

Jimmy Graham caught 12 balls for 150 yds his season at Miami.

Kyle Rudolph in his best year caught 33 balls for 300 yds. Last year caught 28 balls for 328 yds.

His 39 catches for 630 yds and 6 tds, in 2010 are much better. College TEs don't put up huge #s.

I highly doubt many on here think their opinion matters in the long run. You did have the opinion that this place sounds like a pre-school though and you thought that mattered to share with us. I'm just wondering if you think these have been good and prudent picks?

I have no idea. It's not what I expected but that doesn't mean it's terrible. Just because people visit a few websites, mull through some mock drafts, and google a few names doesn't make them an expert on where someone should be selected. A lot of drafts that look good on draft day end up looking like crap a few years down the road ( and visa versa).

We could argue till we are blue in the face that the RB absolutely was.

I agree the second round pick could be argued, but unless you are an absolute pollyanna there is no way you can point at our third round pick and feel he was BPA.

And a lot of times what looks like crap and smells like crap is actually crap.

Point well made. Even if a lot of that was from the slot. Point still well made.

Krang, the point is that WE DONT USE OUR TE's.. so for all intents and purposes it's a wasted pick.

Again I don't think anyone here is saying the guy can't play, but we could have gotten a player that actually might have an impact on Sundays.

No, until we were Orange in the face. Acho was the better pick at 2 and he was the better pick at 3.

Going to be an awful lot of NFL teams kicking themselves next fall when that kid tears it up for whoever finally takes him.

Oh he must not be any good because so many teams passed on him? Kurt who?

:D

And to be clear I will be thrilled as hell if he does actually gets a chance to make plays.

You are correct. But the plan is to play him at WR as well.

Right now I am intrigued but wish it was our round 4 pick, where gambles like these pay off.

Kiper seems to be right more than Whiz.

4 RB's in the last 5 drafts and the running game is still crap.

8 LB's and the LB corp still sucks

4 Olinmen taken in 5 drafts Oline sucks

2 DT's taken for the purpose of playing NT, one is now a DE and took forever to develop and the other rode pine most of last year

3 TE's drafted in 5 drafts for an offense that rarely uses TEs effectively.

This staff either sucks at either evaluating talent and/or developing talent. Now talk of bringing in Bulger as the QB????? 2011 is going to be another long year.

I don't doubt this kid has talent, but I also don't doubt the Cards could have gotten him in the 5th round.

How do you or anyone else know? If our scouts have a certain grade on the guy, it's reasonable to assume that others have a similar grade.

You are bringing up two months ago? I can't believe you claim that no player who falls in the draft can ever be any good after watching Kurt Warner take us to a SB.

Guru Gosselin changes his predictions.

Unreal.

You have to look at the perponderance of evidence and take an educated guess. Almost universally you would find him as a 5th to 6th round grade due to being from a small school.

So it would appear (though certainly no guarantee) that he could have been had in the 4th.

The key to a successful draft is maximizing your picks. You want to get high end talent across the board. That is why guys slide who are successful in the NFL despite being 5th round and later.

Actually, comparing our scouts to others isn't reasonable at all.

The kid is regarded by the scouts as being a phenomenal athlete. So he certainly has talent and size. The question is does he have the football ability(IQ) and mentality/desire to succeed. Only time will tell. With our coaching staff though I wont hold my breath.
