You have to look at the perponderance of evidence and take an educated guess. Almost universally you would find him as a 5th to 6th round grade due to being from a small school.

So it would appear (though certainly no guarantee) that he could have been had in the 4th.

The key to a successful draft is maximizing your picks. You want to get high end talent across the board. That is why guys slide who are successful in the NFL despite being 5th round and later.

It works the other way too. Guys slide for a reason. In the end, you have to trust your scouts

Underrated: Rob Housler, Florida Atlantic: This year's relatively weak crop of tight ends is highlighted by several receiver hybrids with limited blocking skills. Unlike some of the basketball converts in this class, Housler's rise to fame is strictly due to his size, production and athleticism. The 6-5, 247-pound Housler's 4.55-second electronically timed 40-yard dash translates onto the field, as does his potential as an in-line blocker considering his 80-inch wingspan and 22 repetitions of 225 pounds. Had Housler earned his second-team all conference honors (39 catches for 629 yards and four TDs) in the Pac-10 or Big Ten rather than the Sun Belt, he wouldn't make it out of the second round. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

The kid is regarded by the scouts as being a phenomenal athlete. So he certainly has talent and size. The question is does he have the football ability(IQ) and mentality/desire to succeed. Only time will tell. With our coaching staff though I wont hold my breath.

His father was a college player at UTEP, so maybe he has bloodlines. FAU, under Schnellenberger , runs a pro set offense. He knows the pro set and how to work in it. When he came out of Texas HS, he was a tall skinny kid. He grew up. He separates, can work in the slot, can split out or play tight. My opinion is if you want a blocking TE, use a tackle eligible. If you want to score , use a real pass carching TE. The pick has huge potential.

How do you know these picks are bad?

Don't know anymore than you know they aren't. But to say our drafts have been good with Whiz in these rounds is a stretch to say the least. I don't like the picks and in particular a TE who can't block at a small school.

Show me anyone who had this guy going as high as he did?

And what exactly has this scouting department under Whisenhunt done to earn the fans trust? One top 5 pick is damn near a bust, their second first round pick is inconsistent, their third first round pick could very well be on the trading block and has underperformed and their fourth first round pick sat and watched a lot last year to observe an inferior DT.

Do we even have to bother learning this a-hole's name or can we just skip ahead to the part where he gets cut?

Couldn't believe the pick when I heard it. I was willing to give the Cards a pass on the RB pick (once I got over my disbelief of THAT pick), but then this? I am shocked.

I'm not saying these are excellent picks. I have no idea and neither do you. All of these people flying off the handle because the team didn't pick their guy or didn't go by what the "experts" thought is a bit silly IMHO

You do realize that this is a fan's event right? You do realize that the NFL went to a prime time slot to get more exposure for their annual selection show. They want us to be arm chair GM's What else are we supposed to do? Be lamb? Settle for idiocy? Go with the flow?

Criticizing people for actually giving a ***** is the biggest waste of time on a discussion forum I can think of.

Really Shane? I guess you're alright with 5-11 teams and underachieving players.

Even Kurt Warner on the NFL Network was questioning their 2nd and third round picks.

That whole list has shown to be NFL talent. Many from small schools and are still developing. But appear to be well on their way to decent careers.

I'm flying off the handle because Whiz keeps drafting players in the same position year after year, can't develop them and ignores glaring holes at other positions. This team is most likely going to start next year with Marc Freaking Bulger as their QB next year. That coupled with Whiz's draft shows he either know nothing about football or hasn't been paying attention the past four offseasons.

No but I heard about a guy who couldn't even win the starting job on his college team and so redshirted as a JUNIOR!

And we just drafted him in the 3rd round. Well considering he is a TE and was selected by the Cardinals all that time sitting on the bench in 2009 will come in handy.

Plus while he was sitting on the bench in 2009 FAtl used him as scout team QB. That means we don't need a 3rd QB and can carry an extra RB or TE! Coach McGinnishunt is a master.

I just don't see how you, me, or anyone else can make the decision that this has been a terrible draft at this stage. How do you know for sure?

Levi Brown not lived up to the HYPE but still went to a freaking SB with him manning down the right side. I'll take it.

Rashad Johnson is actually looking like he may just be coming around.

Iwebema and Doucett have shown flashes but just cannot stay healthy much like Beanie.

Plus are you really gonna hold Beanie against him when you and EVERYONE else thought it was the steal of the entire draft?

I could make lists of jsut about as many failures for just about any team in the NFL I'm betting.

Yeah, how dare us wanting our team to achieve more than 5-11

This coach brings a team with someone else's roster to a Super Bowl then completely dismantles it and brings it to a place worse off than it was before he took over and some want to give him a pass because he took the Cards to the Super Bowl.
