What if some of these teams being in so much hot water with covid is because they aren't as vaccinated as they thought they were. We can't be naive to think that Antonio Brown and that one other guy on Tampa Bay were the only two players with fake vaccine cards.

We almost want this to be the case otherwise it most likely means that the vaccines are less effective than thought. Especially against Delta and Omicron.

Another point on this, somebody else above mentioned fans in the stands at the games, where teams who are playing or having covid issues... It is a little odd that we aren't hearing of any covid tracing of positive cases, being traced back to sporting events. At least I haven't heard of anything. I would think that would make huge headlines, if it were the case.
This makes a bit of sense for football games since most of the stadiums are outdoors and with the size of them. Outdoor transmission is rarer than indoor because the virus has more room to dissipate and is fragile to UV light.

The NBA and NHL arenas have more potential for crowd outbreaks but they still have decent size compared to an office building or home. Keep the air moving in them and it should help reduce the change of a large scale outbreak.

NFL just postponed 3 games, or moved them Back. Raiders and Cleveland will now play Mon, Rams and Seattle and WFT/Eagles play Tues to give the teams more time to get players back off the Covid lists

We don't even know if the current NFL surge is Omicron I don't think they're testing for which variant yet.

Article in the NYT today says researchers say immunities from prior Covid infections, including Delta, offer very little protection against Omicron.

At the very least the NFL should be testing every team right now completely, all the players and personnel. And then the ones who test positive they should find out which variant so they know how big the problem is.

It's definitely Omicron. The NFL is like 98% fully vaxxed. You only get this rate of breakthrough infections with Omicron.

Again they have no idea how vaccinated they are they are apparently investigating if others, how many did the same thing Antonio Brown did. 3 days ago the CDC said Omicron is 3% of the current cases. it's doubling every 2-4 days so it's 6% now.

At this point we have to really question the 98% fully vaxxed stat. That and we need to also be tracking which vaccine they got and if any boosters have been dosed, yet.

Oh giycha

The message the NFL sent with doing literally nothing to Rodgers said everything about what the league really cares about.
Exactly. He (and Chandler Jones btw) should have been suspended at least a game.

Interesting!

Yeah I think Ron in OC is right about what vaccine did guys get but I also think it's HIGHLY likely that Antonio Brown was just the guy that got caught and that many players simply bought fake vaccine cards to get past that. You can have breakthroughs and they are in close proximity but the sheer number in the NFL right now just seems very unlikely to me they're all really vaccinated I suspect some of them just lied about it.

Apparently after they caught Brown and got the guy who sold it to him(and another teammate) they started investigating how many others had done the same thing so I suspect the answer is probably more than 0.

why? did Chandler lie about his vax status and then parade around maskless as well? if so, then agreed. i just hadn't heard that re: Jones.

It's completely different though. The EPL teams only have 25 player rosters. You have to put out like 20 of them for a game (11 players and 9 subs). So even if you lose 6 players you can't do that.

NFL teams have 68 available players (53 + 15) plus a bunch of instantly signable street free agents that soccer simply doesn't have.

While I don't disagree, you lose your top 2 or 3 players from soccer and that's a 3rd of your team. You lose 5 or 6 starters from the NFL, you could find parallels there.

Pretty sure the reason that I read was that he was deceitful to the NFL about his vaccination status. I may have to find an article.

Cause it never happened.

yeah... I don't think so either. the idea that thatstory wouldn't have blown up on the board and then probably degenerate to the point of being moved to p & r is beyond unlikely.

PFT talked to the league. They know 80% are fully vaccinated because they were done by the teams. The other 20% or 18% may be or may not be. They verified all of Bucs cards but not the other 31 teams.

The NFL says 94.6 so if 80% is verified that means 15% is not. That's what 5-6 players per team of the 31 that may or may not actually be vaccinated?

That's actually less than I expected if you consider like 100 players tested positive this week alone.

If that's what the CDC is saying then they're wrong. Omicron is absolutely everywhere, it's the entire reason for this surge across every league. Think of what it's doing in the general population.

They don't know the league thinks this surge is caused by Thanksgiving.

In NY/NJ it's about 13%, that's of course because NY has an international airport so if Omicron arrived here from abroad it's going to start in places that have big international airports where people bring it in.

At the doubling rate Omicron will be dominant here by just after Xmas, but it's entirely possible the surge in the NFL is mostly still Delta

Vax status really doesn't matter much because because Omicron is walking through double jabbed barriers like Vince McMahon entering the ring.

Still works pretty well against severe infection, but nowhere near as well against stopping you getting it. Hence, the sudden outbreak in the league.

It's definitely Omicron. Delta didn't just start beating vaccines at this rate.
