Read that they found unused scenes from Episode IV that they spliced into Rogue One. Basically, the fighter pilot cockpit scenes were shot in 1977 (or whenever Lucas filmed them). So that is why you can see the original Red Leader (non-CGI) fighting in the climax of the movie. How freaking cool is that? I understand the Tarkin CGI, but this is a universe where they communicate via hologram. Why couldn't they just have the Director bicker with Tarkin's hologram for most of the movie and then have his CGI character show up at the end, if necessary?

I was referring to the second CGI character that you had a problem with. My wife thought that it was old footage. I didn't know about the cockpit scenes being reused. Pretty cool.

Yeah I had no problem with the CGI. My wife thought they had some old scene from Episode 4 or something. I told her it had to be CGI.

I very much enjoyed this one.

My wife had no idea who Cushing was. LOL. She said the opposite. She asked me why they used a fake character with real characters. She noticed it off the bat not realizing the original actor was long gone.

I like your order. Probably mine too with one exception. I put 4 in front of 5. I know Empire is superior, but I think I enjoy A New Hope more. Definitely rewatched it more.

But I am weird. I also prefer the original Godfather to part 2.

Took my daughter to see it. It didn't stand up as well the second time. The two surprise guest CGI scenes just bugged me more and more. The score was completely underwhelming and most of the characters utterly forgettable. Vader's joke, the "Master Switch" that looked exactly like a big switch were so contrived. The entire Jedha part of the storyline, kyber crystals (especially Jyn's around her neck) and Jedi Temples felt like a giant McGuffin.

I know I sounded like I didn't like it but I really did. The battle scenes were awesome, I liked a couple of the characters and the movie does make Star Wars a better movie for me. It's just the things that bugged me.....really bugged me the second time around. I really think I might have liked the movie even less minus the last 10 minutes of the movie which was just beyond epic to me.

Having said that, I still liked TFA better. I liked the characters, the score, the humor and simply that movie got more of an emotional response from me verses Rogue One up until the last epic scene of this movie.

Still a must see. Still will own it but simply didn't love it as much as others did.

My order is:

Empire Strikes Back
The Force Awakens
Rogue One
Return of the Jedi
Star Wars
Revenge of the Sith
Clone Wars
Phantom Menace

How, but HOW, can you put TFA above A New Hope? The first ripped the second off.

He has to be younger than many of us. Anyone that grew up watching Star Wars in the theater as a child would not put TFA above the original.

My list is simple.

Original trilogy in order.
Rogue One
TFA
Prequels (order doesn't really matter)

Has nothing to do with age. The original Star Wars was always my least favorite of the original trilogy. I have never been nostalgic about that film which IMO makes people forgive much about that film. It had iconic scenes but still my least favorite growing up of the originals. I always felt that Star Wars was ground breaking but that is different than being a great film.

Just my opinion. In fact, I think the Special Editions minus a couple scenes improved those films too which is not a popular opinion. I am simply have never been a purists hung up on nostalgia when it comes to these films.

I don't really understand the love for Force Awakens. It's an "ok" movie, but not great. I'd put the 3 originals above it and probably Rogue One.

I am expecting big things from episodes VIII and IX, however.

Interesting you say that, considering TFA is essentially a remake of episode IV.

Jedi
Anakin BBQ

IMO The 2nd prequel is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Way, way worse than the first. I seriously HATED that movie.

I think everyone is. I admit though, just like many people feel that Rogue One improves Star Wars, I think the opposite can be true. If the next two films blow? I think it would downgrade my opinion of TFA.

I was one of the first here to complain about some of the originality issues but I don't share the opinion it's just a remake. You know what is really weird? Despite the pretense of Rogue One being about the Death Star Plans ....I still felt is was film #4...with a Death Star as it's major centerpiece (threat) which to me felt like they have gone to the well way too many times there. It's the equivalent of Star Trek and time travel.

If I never see another Star Wars movie that involves another Death Star (past, present or future) it will bee too soon.

I saw the movie yesterday

It was enjoyable Very much an old-school Star Wars movie

I saw it at the IMAX 3-D and really didn't notice the CGI issues

Surprised there's been not a lot of comment about the central thesis of the plot - which is basically to plug the big hole in A New Hope - the vulnerability of the death Star to a single fighter pilot

Also I don't really understand the love that John Williams gets

As a composer he is awful He is talented as in orchestrator But all the memorable music in pretty much any movie he's ever scored he lifted from other composers

Irony: you say your opinion has nothing to do with your age/first experience with the original trilogy, but then you solidify the entire age difference argument by saying you are not a purist and that you liked many of Lucas' alterations to the original trilogy. Most of us who are a bit older and first experienced Star Wars in the theater as a kid are purists and despised the changes Lucas' made.

I think we are just going to have to agree to disagree on most things related to Star Wars, especially when you think it is perfectly okay for Han to not have shot first.

Agree dude. Can we get a plot line in this series that doesn't involve a death star 'planet killer'? I appreciate how much depth R1 added to ANH. No complaints there. But for Gods sake man, can we get a new story at some point?

I'm waiting for Episode 8,,, Rey and Luke band together to support the rebels, but they learn that there was secretly,,, wait for it,,,, ANOTHER DEATH STAR!!! bom bom bommmmm!

I would love to see Episode 8 fill in the gaps because I want to know how, after everything Luke did to defeat the Empire, how did it magically just rise to power again? That was really the only thing that really bothered me about TFA.

Huh? There is zero irony and I solidified nothing. I have never been a purist when it comes to movies. That has zero to do with age. I went to the premiere of Empire Strikes Back event they held at the Cine Capri. Have no idea why you think "us" doesn't include me when talking about people who watched the films in the Theater.

Also, many of us don't really mind many of the changes. My older brother went to a pre-screening of Star Wars that still had the human Jabba footage in it. Star Wars is even his least favorite and he is one of the biggest fans I know. We both stood in line with friends at the Cine Crapri when the re-release came and we went to see all the Special Editions. There are a bunch of us that felt there was nothing wrong with many of the changes that Lucas made (NOT ALL). None of us felt they were ALL warranted or perfect but some of the updates were needed to the general FX. I personally didn't like the new cantina scene in ROTJ for example, others had problems with SOME of the other changes. Heck some of us felt they should have replaced some of the other FX that looked dated.

You don't represent all old school Star Wars fans. Also, go to Jedi Council forums. It's chalked full of fans that don't mind all the changes from the Special Editions.

So no...age has nothing to do with it.
