I'd be disappointed if the Suns were on the losing end of this trade long term. The key being long term.

There may be more picks, cash or players involved in this trade. I never thought Scola would remain a Sun for the entire upcoming season and I don't think McDonough would do a fire sale.

You must have meant Solomon Hill. I don't know if he has much upside, but he could be a popular player here having played at Arizona. If the scouting department thought anything of him (was he brought in for a workout?) then they should have definitely asked for him as part of this trade. It wouldn't be asking for much.

Yes Solomon Hill, he had a very good summer league showing and was drafted in the first round so I doubt the Pacers would "like" to give him up.

He will be a solid pro.

He can't be traded before 3rd of August.

Looks like Hamed Haddadi is going to play a big role.

We are all assuming, at least I was, that Green will be acquired in this trade solely to make the salaries match. But this may not be the case. Green was selected 18th overall by the Celtics in 2005 when McDonough was already there, a year before they acquired Rondo's pick from the Suns. Unlike Rondo, Green never really blossomed in Boston, although he did show some improvement his second season. Then he was sent packing as part of the trade that brought Garnett to Boston. And in Minnesota, Green was buried on the bench like so many others before him.

So McDonough may very well feel that Green is a better player than he's been able to show, despite being 27 and now having played for six different NBA teams over the course of his six-year NBA career (he spent two years in Russia and China) and sporting 8.0 ppg in 17.5 mpg career averages. Or maybe they had a good relationship in Boston. Either way, it's probably not a coincidence that Green is the one rumored to be heading to Phoenix with McDonough here. I'd hate to think that this may be the primary motivation for this trade, when there may be better value to be gotten for Scola elsewhere.

Green has had a couple of decent seasons, but his shooting numbers were awful last year. Was he hurt?

Scola has to be moved in order to give playing time to youngsters. You have to get the best deal possible without waiting too long.

Looks like its Green, a first, plus "future draft considerations" for Scola @ to Wojo. Not sure what that last part means.

Talk about migratory player, this will be Green's 7th team in 7 years.

The monetary savings is negligible, but we do get a 1st round pick. Keep stockpiling picks, McD!

The last thing I read from this source was 11 hours ago. Is this new information and do you have a link?

Lol I hope you are joking. The Suns have a lot of PFs on this roster.

Even with Scola gone, we still have Beasley, Markieff, Frye and guys like Tucker and Marcus who may be better suited as PF in our offense.

You just named off a bunch of tweeners who are poor rebounders. And Frye? Dude might not ever play again. I stand by my statement.

Exactly.

The Suns will be weak at PF but I am mainly concerned about collecting more assets at this point in time.

You have a point, but let's step back and think about what the Suns are trying to accomplish next year. If I were McD, I'd want to see what Morris can do, see if Beasley does better playing PF (long shot, but if he looks better, they might be able to trade him), and give youngsters a chance (Oriakhi or Onuaku if he gets an invite to summer camp). If losing Scola costs them losing two or three extra games, it's really not a big deal- I'd argue that's the desired outcome anyway.

I've always wondered about that. I think it may go something like this: Sometime in the future, the Pacers will call the Suns and say, "hey, we considered giving you our draft pick... but we decided against that. Take care." :)

I don't think this is a good trade at all! Leaves the Suns too short up front. Plus, we do not get a fair deal in return.

Makes Beasley more of a backup PF, which many here say he's better at anyway.

My only issue with it is Green's 2nd year salary. But it might be worth an extra draft pick. Indy has their own pick next year, so if we get that, we're gravy.

My guess is that they are going to get nearly enough cash to cover that second year. Again, Celtic connections all through this deal. Larry Bird, Green drafted by the Celts while McD was a scout there, etc.

It looks definitely like a first rounder plus maybe an option to trade picks or something at some future date.

We'll see what kind of wheeler and dealer Babby is on this one.

Suns close to dealing Luis Scola to Pacers

Yes, I should have said "Its not newer than anything you have, it just has the details that I mentioned." My point in that post was not to add new news, but to ask what "future draft considerations" might be.

Looks like the deal is Scola for Green, Plumlee, and 2014 1st (lottery protected). Love it!

Per Stein, Woj, and others.
