I know they are a division rival and all.....but the Rams are really getting screwed in all of this.....they hire a decent d coordinator,...develop a philosophy and defensive plan..... then right before the draft...amidst acquiring free agents...they have to hire a new guy...who will likely have a whole new plan....

League should award the Saints 2 seconds to the rams...their defense is screwed this season.

Rams were not blind to what Williams did in the past.

They share guilt for hiring him in the first place.

Don't kid yourself, Jeff Fisher had a pretty good idea there was a reason the Saints didn't re-up Williams. They have almost the entire offseason to hire or promote a defensive coordinator. Offseason OTA's and mini-camps don't start for over a month. They are in good shape.

I don't understand why Loomis wasn't fired weeks ago. The owner told him to stop any bounty system and he said he would. Then Loomis just blew Benson off and allowed the bounties to continue.

How you can lie right to the owner's face and keep your job is beyond me.

I think Benson knew.. and endorsed this all along.

He's just kept the blood of his hand$.

They "Share Guilt?"....that is ridiculous Jon

if an accountant gets a DUI...then three years later hires on at a local CPA firm....does that firm "Share Guilt" in regards to his past DUI? No

In my youth I used to brawl quite a bit...does the drilling company I work for "Share Guilt" in all the heads I have dented? No

The Rams hired a man who was a semi well respected coach in the league so they could improve their team....do you really think they asked him about setting up a bounty system in St Louis?

How does an 8 game GM suspension work anyway considering they really don't have game day duties and receive year round paychecks? Is he basically suspended for 8 weeks during the season and loses 2 months of pay?

But if the guy is going to jail for his previous crime then it doesn't matter whether the CPA firm knew about it or not, they're still going to lose him as an employee.
Same thing with the Rams. Sure you could say that they're an innocent victim in this but there is frequently collateral damage when someone is punished. Ask any kid whose father is in jail.

It's called doing your due diligence. If you have a bus co. and you hire a driver who is being investigated for DUI, you're SOL if he ends up getting his license suspended. Maybe the Rams have grounds for termination, I don't know.

These lowlifes, despite what KW will say publicly, cost us a HOF QB and the 2010 season. They deserve everything they get.

:mulli:

So you're saying the Cards should be given 2 first round picks every year because of the ineptitude (extending 1st rds) of our GM/owner & poor drafting by the Cards? :D Sign me up!

Just thinking about this situation, the Saints actually come out way ahead financially. They save Payton's 7-million dollar salary and a good chunk of Vitt and Loomis' salaries, while only coughing up 1/2 million in fines. Strictly from a dollars and cents standpoint, it doesn't hurt THAT much. From a P.R. and football sense, it hurts big-time though.

Don't suspended player's salaries end up going to charity? I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happened here. The Saints still have to pay it, it just doesn't go to Payton.

Good for Goodell! Only quibble is I would have taken a first & second round draft pick instead of 2 seconds. Totally agree with the indefinite suspension of Gregg Williams in light of his lying about it. The question is what do the Rams do now? How can they NOT fire the guy?

Agreed on the picks.. Especially since the Pats lost their first for spygate.

I believe Williams' contract will be voided effective immediately. There's probably some type of clause in it for something like this.

If the NFL has close to any proof of Vilma coughing up $10,000 for Favre's head, I can easily see him getting 8games to a full year.

Lawsuits by players targeted coming?

Posting this in a rival board will not breed compassion, nor will it often produce objective responses. :)

This is just one of those cases where circumstances beyond your control put yourself in a situation where life isn't fair,so you just buck up and deal with it.(concerning where this leaves St Lou to no fault of their own i mean).

Rams will be fine without Williams. Fisher and McGinnis are more than capable of overcoming this. Now, if they had gone out and hired an offensive-minded HC ,this would've been disasterous.

So if I net this against the windfall they just got by lucking into the second pick in the draft (and selling it to WAS), they still come out ahead.

Those are fines, not salaries.
