Hairston has a great eye. He might be the leadoff hitter the Diamondbacks have been looking for.

Still no word on whose starting tomorrow....

We'll get a big clue if Gonzalez pitches tonight for Tucson (his scheduled start). If he's not he's the starter, if he is pitching tonight it will be Good starting.

Dbacks take the lead early with an RBI double by Bautista. He then gets knocked in by Gonzo with an infield RBI single.

2-0 Dbacks (I love the Dodger defense so far)

Fossum blows the lead and the Diamondbacks are down 4-2 in the 3rd.

Edgar Gonzalez is going to start the game tomorrow

The Dbacks are helping out Ishii way too much
I believe that Tim Olson will be demoted to Tucson since they're in no need of another middle IF, but most importantly they need all the middle-relievers possible since Gonzalez will be on a limited pitch count....

Tim Olsen looks like a cross between Richie Sexson and Boy George

Yep, Nance sucks, and Fossum remains officially real unimpressive. He said he is looking forward to interleague when he can face AL teams - that maybe he'll feel comfortable there.

I am not sure why Good couldn't get a shot at starting one of these times.

Heck, I'd be tempted to cut Baerga for a roster move. Baerga can't play much anymore, and this year he he can't hit much, either.

Wow.... As you know...Edgar Gonzalez was promoted to start tonight... Shane Nance was demoted to Tucson to create space for him...

In addition, the Dbacks recalled RH reliever Brandon Villafuerte.....To clear room for him, they designated Donnie Sadler for assignment....

Did Nance come over with Richie Sexson?
Yes he did....I'm trying to figure out why they acquired him when he was more than likely damaged goods at the time (similar to Fossum and Lyons)....

Although, the Dbacks also acquired Noochie Varner in the trade, and he could be the "steal of the deal"....He's currently the starting RF in Tucson and posseses lots of speed, some decent power, but more importantly knows how to spray the ball all over.....

Varners stats since joining Tucson:

30-Games
.315-BA
111-ABs
21-Runs
35-Hits
11-RBI
4-2B
0-3B
1-HR
10-BBs
14-Ks
2-2 on SB attempts....

So, he also displays some patience at the plate...

In the Schilling trade, the Dbacks obtained OF Michael Goss and here's his stats at South Bend:

38-Games
.272-BA
136-ABs
20-Runs
37-Hits
17-RBI
5-2B
0-3B
0-HRs
10-BBs
27-Ks
2-4 on SB attempts

Seriously, we should just trade for Paul Lo Duca, he has career games everytime he plays us. Did D'backs management take a dump on his lawn or what?

Also, these young players like Olson and DeVore are not recreating the "baby-backs" excitment from last season. Although I am completely impressed with Hairston, he is a baseball player

I think Roberts showed up the team by stealing a base with such a large lead so far into the game. I wouldn't be suprised if he gets hit by a pitch tomorrow

I definitely agree w/you about Olson and DeVore.. I view those 2 as just "stop-gaps" until the likes of Conor Jackson, Jamie D`Antona,
Carlos Quentin, Sergio Santos, and Marland Williams are ready......

Good news about Luis Terrero...That he will be reinstated when he's completed his anger management classes (which should be w/in 3-wks)....

I don't think anyone (except maybe them and their families) thinks Olson or Devore are of much interest. You are right, they are marginal utility place-holders. Hairston and Tracy are top 10 guys. Devore and Olson probably aren't even top 25. In addition to the guys you mention, look for Josh Kroeger, Brian Barden, Andy Green, who are at least higher-potential stop-gaps.

But Man-O-Man -- that Jethawks lineup!!!

What I think made the babybacks the experience they were for fans last year were a couple things coming together - a whole bunch of exuberant new faces at once completely and suddenly erased the draggy, defeated, "grind" attitude of the team up to that point - they had 'critical mass' for awhile, and it was like watching them party, until veterans started coming back and reminded them of their place. They played above their talent and skill level - only OverBay, Webb, and Valverde were generally considered in our top 15 prospects.
That's why I've been half-seriously saying - hell, do it again - bring a whole bunch of them up at one time, not drizzle them in.

Diamondbacks win 6-5 and take the last game against the Dodgers. 4-3 homestand not bad. Let's take the next 2 series on the road in Baltimore and Toronto.

Hairston knocks in Cintron with an RBI double and then Bautista knocks him in with an RBI single. Dbacks take a 2-0 lead.
