Ouchie and Joe are right, we weren't going to compete for a championship withe our current squad and if a motivated Shaq is healthy for the playoffs I think he could definitely help. Can you imagine a series with the Lakers? The ratings would be off the charts.

insane ratings. and if the wcf ended up being a suns verses spurs rematch and shaq verses duncan matchup (and duncan would have to guard shaq, wouldn't he???), the ratings would only continue to skyrocket. weird, i know. digesting . . .

A Suns/Lakers conferance finals would destroy the ratings.

Shaq with his new buddy who will actually pass him the ball.

Kobe and his new big men who want to let him do his thing.

The WWE couldn't write a better storyline.

Damn right, so stern better step in and do some of his magic for the suns. The same magic that got the celts to bend over the wolves and the lakers to bend over the grizzlies.

Stern better make miami bend over for the suns.

Hell you don't want to go conspiracy then go faith, the basketball gods then can grant us the bend over trade partner deific power.

Do it. As others have said, we ain't winning the whole thing with the current nucleus and that sad reality has slapped management in the face. Ride out Nash and in two years him and Shaq's contracts come off the books and we rebuild around Amare and Barbs.

Those who vehemently disagree with this trade are simply homers who need your '55 wins and an entertaining style of play!' security blanket. Go for the glory, no sacred cows so at least if the Suns failed they can say they tried. And not to defend the guy because I think he's a scumbag, but this is also a lot of cash for Sarver to fork out for a very risky move.

Why oh why couldn't shawn welcome a trade when Garnett was still a possibility.

I don't know who mentioned it first but they're right, this is Majerle-Hot Rod all over again. I'm so torn on the deal. If this was the Shaq even 2 years ago I'd be all for it but he's looking pretty worn out these days.

If this is a knee jerk reaction to Gasol, then they clearly overreacted.

If this is a move because they are scared that Shawn is going to walk at the end of the year then I would think there must be a better deal out there for him.

Guys, I hate this trade, but I clearly wasn't being logical. The Suns can now rekindle the 1996 Eastern Conference All Stars!

They already have Hill and Shaq, now, it should be easy to talk Reggie Miller out of retirement to fill the Eddie House role. Allegedly Mourning may be coming to Phoenix in this deal too, so thats 4 down. If we can get Jordan to leave DC and invest here, I'll count that too. We've had Penny before, I'm sure he'd love to come and play back up point.

I understand why everyone keeps bringing up the Majerle-Hot Rod deal, but to call even this Shaq Hot Rod is just rediculous. The guy is still 7'1 340 and when he gets the ball in the post they will have to double him. If they don't there isn't a single guy in the NBA who can stop him. This will all come down to him being healthy, if he can stay healthy....I think this trade makes us a bigger threat to win it all than we are right now.

LOL I already said that the quest to win the 1998 championship is almost complete!

A trade that had to be done, if true.

Shaq lets Amare roam free. Gives us an answer to Gasol & Bynum. Camby. Yao. Kaman.

Shaq guards Duncan. Who guards Amare?

Hill guards Nowitzki. Who guards Amare?

Takes pressure off the poor D from Nash. No longer will opposing PG's have free will in the lane.

Marion did not want to be here. Apparently, Shaq does. Bye, Trix. Thanks for the memories. Wish you were happy. Somebody stole your soul along the way.

Hey, at least PHX management isn't standing pat. The window is only open so long in the NBA. Better do what you can while you have the chance.

An already old team becomes really old...

I really wish we'd just kept Kurt Thomas and our picks.

What happens if Shaq retires after this season? Does his salary come off the books? Maybe someone on the Suns knows he plans to/or Shaq agreed to and this turns into a one season rental/salary dump? I am hoping this is true because this the only way I see this as a positive. I much rather have kept Shawn and signed Theo Ratliffe as some were speculating or at least gotten Udonis Haslem in the deal.

Sarver deserves for this deal to go down along with his poorly run business.

Shaq would be good if we could convince the other teams to let Amare guard him.

This is kind of my feelings. If we even got a second rounder I would be happy.

Reality: The Suns have absorbed a bad contract to deal what is effectively an enormous expiring deal and got zero picks out of it or young players in return. It is counter intuitive of every NBA deal we see, except the Kurt Thomas deal where we paid picks to get rid of a large expiring deal.

If the Suns don't win a championship Kerr may be the worst executive this side of Isiah Thomas. He effectively traded 3 1st round picks, James Jones, Kurt Thomas, Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks and got back Shaq and cash.

The Heat are freaking smart. They bring in a bunch of old guys, win a championship. Then they turn in to the worst team in the league and will be able to draft another franchise player.

The Suns, on the other hand, have been stuck in "pretty good" mode for 30 years. When are they going to completely tank a few seasons and get a great player? Have a nice "David Robinson injury" so they can draft a Duncan?

With Shaq our offense will be like the pythagorean theorem: There is no answer!

I really hope he can stay healthy, he has a great attitude and all he cares about is winning. Worst case scenario is that he rubs off on Amare and helps him become a better more dominant player. If this goes through I will be the first to welcome Shaq. Kerr, this one is on you....if this doesn't work out I hope they bring in someone to use up all of our cap space in 2 years wisely. GO SUNS!

Actually it isn't the worst case scenario. The worst case scenario is a notoriously lazy and out of shape Shaq does rub off on Amare and makes him care less about improving his game.

In the meantime, the Suns have 3 players who are injury prone on their front court and mediocre backups at every front court position. The most under appreciated aspect of Marion was the fact that he always played.

Marion will be missed that is without question. It is very possible that his deal will come back to bite us big time. But I just didn't see us winning a title with this team this year. We lacked enough outside shooting for this system to work. I wish Marion the best in MIA, its just too bad he didn't realize how appreciated he was by fans and wasn't ok being a wing-man instead of trying to be THE man.

We will be a great defensive team and rebounding team now just by having Shaq guarding the 7 footers and Amare being able to play at his natural position.

Shaq and Amare is a monster combination at the 4/5 and it will work. Shaq is Amare's idol.

On offense its about time we slow it down when needed and feed Amare more.

I'm excited that the Suns had the guts to trade for one of the 10 best players of all time, possibly the best Center of all time, and one of the most entertaining characters in the history of the NBA.

We will be a "great" defensive team? Please. Shaq is too slow to do anything against any quality guards, Nash is still terrible, Amare still isn't very good on defense, Hill is average at best. We just got WORSE on defense.

Who cares if he is slow. He will improve our defense by miles by simply being 7'2 or 7'3 with long arms and 300lbs roaming around the hoop changing shots and allowing the rest of our team to defend their natural positions.

What are we losing with Marion? I think Grant Hill and Amare Stoudemire will more than make up for anything Marion did that Shaq can't give us.

And best thing in 2010 Diaw and Barbosa will be our only players under contract. Most likely Amare too since he has a player option for 2011 and we would want to keep him too. Putting us in a very good situation to rebuild then.
