Thought this was interesting:
9 ppg 4rpg at 41% shooting in the playoffs

12ppg 6rpg 50% shooting regular season

I always liked Marion but don't miss his annual playoff slide. I wonder if he is still complaining about not getting the respect he deserves.

they said marion talked to the dallas team about coming back from a 3-1 deficit today.

i'm sure he concluded his speech by mentioning how he was the hero of game 6 against the lakers because of his incredible rebound and kick, but of course he got slighted again and they gave too much credit to tim thomas.

in retrospect i can still understand his frustration on that play, it was coming off of the heel of him not winning the mvp he deserved.

I hated Marion more than anyone else on this board, Chris_Sanders, can you PLEASE unlock that thread "Open letter to Shawn Marion"?

You deleted that thing in less than a day. I even wanted us to keep Marbury and trade Marion, haha. That would of been stupid, but you get the point.

Almost anyone else. I thought he was a detriment to the team, playing out of position at PF, which forced Amare (there was no apostrophe then) to Center. Going light in the two power positions.

I didn't like him at all when I couldn't understand his mumbling every time i ran into him lunchtime at Yoshi's.

I hated him when he put the kabosh on the trade for Kevin Garnett.

Again he didn't put any kabosh on a Garnett trade geesh pur conjecture. It has been said repeatedly that trade NEVER existed.

I don't know about that. Hollinger has talked about it. I don't see Hollinger citing it if it was just a myth.

I remember just the opposite. I remember national articles DURING the speculation and even months afterward, articles both local and national commenting on the very thing you're saying didn't exist.

ah... and there they are above. glad someone else took the time to find those. there's more evidence that him putting the Kabosh is what happened than not.

No "Tortilla" comments, Cheese?

Those were memorable days. Was it Sanders or Chap that was soft Marion's loyal defender?

Chap or Sanders? Seemed like it was the majority of the whole damn board. But yes, Chap and I used to go at probably the most (shocker) about him before he finally saw the light.

Marion... KG... sigh. Jesus, that team would have been unstoppable with Nash, Amare and KG.

It was probably me, lol.

I liked him because at the time he was our best defender and he did all the dirty work on the team. But as everyone knows, he was usually a no-show in the playoffs and he did indeed prevent the KG deal from happening.

I also just noticed that he's making 6.6 mil this year. Wasn't his last year as a sun something like 14 mil.

I guess it's a lesson for all on how we should appreciate what we have.

It was around 17mil if I recall. He was looking for a 3 year 60mil extension and was upset when the Suns didn't offer it. I think the extension he refused to sign as part of the Celtics trade was about 15mil a year.

"Your thread

Your open letter to Shawn Marion was trashed.

If you think something may piss people off then don't post it.

Yours did and was quickly moving towards flaming."

Frankly, this thread is a little over the top. You really *hate* Shawn Marion?

His locker room lawyer antics got on my nerves. He was bad for team chemistry. But he never gave a half-***ed effort on the floor and he really was playing out of position, and not at all by his choice. That was the choice of his coach, who was roundly hailed as a genius at the time on this board.

I suggest if Marion had spent as much time in the off-season working on his ball handling and shooting as he did putting together fart rockets like a teenage gear head, he could've played the 1, 2, or 3 on most any team and got paid a king's ransom. But he never really got any better from his third season on. His fault.

But I don't *hate* him and I still have fond memories of him in a Suns uniform.

Center? He could not have played center on most any teams. Power Forward, maybe, but that is still questionable.

NOTE: I am dumb.

No mention of center in that post. The positions get numbered upward from point guard (1) to center (5).

Oopsy. :) I stand corrected. I also say that Marion as a point guard? Pul-leeeze. He would be a better center.

and thus this is where most of bad feelings for Shawn came from. He actually had a TON of talent but wasted because he seemingly never added anything to his game over the summer. Never learned how to take people off the dribble, post, nothing... yet he wanted to be treated like he did. His inability or lack of desire to grow as a player is what infuriated me, especially after we gave him a boatload of money. His attitude then wore on me even more as he would shrink in the playoffs... and bitch about how didn't get the acclaim he deserved.

But I don't *hate* him and I still have fond memories of him in a Suns uniform.

I'll admit it... i hate him. him crawling into the fetal position against the Spurs cost us a shot at the title twice and his refusal in the whole KG mess cost us another one, at least.

although, he did provide a couple great moments in the playoffs. His 39 point performance in Game 6 against Dallas to clinch that series in OT in 2005 was pretty awesome and his 36 points 20 rebound performance against the Clips in 2OT in 2006 was pretty incredible as well. Sadly, he was really on his way to making that BIG Superstar push in the suspension Game 5 in 2007 when he had like 20 points and 9 boards in the first half against SA when we were up by like 16 points... then he had 3 points and 2 rebounds in the second and curled into the fetal position as we blew that entire lead and lost. That game could have given him all the accolades he would have ever wanted... but he just didn't have it in him to go the distance, much like his career.

I hated Shawn Marion the basketball player, yes. I don't know Shawn Marion the person.

But I do know this:

1. He DID give half effort at times
2. He DID block KG from coming to the Suns
3. He DID think he was the MVP of our team
4. He DIDNT ever improve
5. He sucked at layups, dribbling, and anything other than ally-oops.

I hate Shawn Marion.
