From Mike Jurecki:
Nice read by @danduggs re #Vikings OC Pat Shurmur has an impressive and extensive history of getting the best out of marginal quarterbacks.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Vikings OC Pat Shurmur is a "strong candidate" for the Giants' head coaching vacancy.

Shurmur is also believed to be the top candidate in Arizona, so he should have his pick when he is ready to make a decision. If he decides to go with the Cardinals, the Giants could be in a tough spot. They were reportedly down to Shurmur, Patriots DC Matt Patricia, and Patriots OC Josh McDaniels for the job, but Patricia is expected to land with the Lions while McDaniels appears to be headed to the Colts. If Shurmur spurns them, the Giants could turn to Panthers DC Steve Wilks.

I have a friend who’s sister lives two doors down from the Shurmur family. She saw one of Pat’s kids playing outside with a Cardinal stocking cap. Remember it’s cold in Minnesota so it must be true. Why would he be wearing a Cardinal stocking cap? Shurmur is our new HC!
:)
Cardinals putting on the full court press. P R dep't. sending them bling and accessories. Gotta keep the kids happy.

So..o.. Pat has interview with Cards. And - as is SOP for many team interviews - receives a Cardinal swag bag that includes a knit cap with a Cardinal logo.

Or not.

(As for me - I hope Shurmer is our HC - we just shouldn't get too far ahead of ourselves).

It was sent to him with a note: "You won't need these in Arizona!"

In a van...down by the river.
How did the Pats come back down 28-3 last year? How did the Cards come come back & take the lead in SB 43?

Great QBs aren’t overrated except on the Thesmel scale. Points are scored in the nfl passing game!!!

Running somewhat sets up some teams passing game & runs out the clock with the lead, but show me a team without a great QB & chances are they will not win the Super Bowl in this era!!!
Offense wins divisional titles but defense wins championships and playoff games. The value of an elite franchise QB is on 3rd down vs elite defense in the playoffs. You've got to have that guy.

I was not all that impressed by Shurmer's 4Q playcalling or Keenum's QB'ing - maybe it's just me.

Yet Minny found a way to eke out the win, and that's got to be worth something.

PS Anyone else notice the number of times receivers in various games tiptoed down the sidelines for long gains? A new addition to a receivers' skill-set, no?

Very average qb with weak arm
Playcalling didn't impress me, no creativness, conservative plays mostly
Hope he will sign with giants

But yet,...somehow..this average weak armed QB,...playing in a very unimpressive offense.... is going to be playing in the NFC Championship next week.

Somebody is responsible for that.

Minnesota has taken a team with an average weak armed backup QB and a bunch of players nobody ever heard of,..and played their way into the Championship game.

Maybe even the Super Bowl.

So who is responsible for their offense?

Somebody taught them. Somebody motivated them. Somebody lead them.

who might that be? because whoever that is appears to be a pretty decent coach.

Good argument.

Actually, three different quarterbacks this season, right?
Yep, they are riding their 3rd string QB into the NFC Title game. Shurmur should get a lot of credit, the WR corp was a bunch of nobodies with the exception of Rudolph until the emergence of Thielen. Even there OL is a bunch of journeyman with the exception of Eflein.

I wouldn't exactly call Diggs a nobody. Thielen just happened to emerge but Diggs was/is Wr1 material.

They also have the number one defense :)

or the lack of basic tackling techniques. It has gone epidemic.

I wouldn't say he has a weak arm, he can make all the throws. But what I will say is that I think Baker Mayfield will be no better than what we're seeing from CK right now. Which isn't bad, but I think that is his ceiling.

Quarterbacks are overrated a great qb has the same needs as a good QB by the team that surrounds him, brady, brees, Roethlisberger never won without a run game or defense, most ran as much as they passed in the years that actually won the Super Bowl, with good defenses

Warning the football gods says you can not verify this on sportscenter- they idolize the pass game.
Who was Ben's big time RB when they beat us?
Who was Brees' big time RB when he won a SB?(their defense was average as well)

It is a shame isn't when Bell, Ben, Brown all get yellow jackets and have nothing to show for it?
