I guess the only thing is that check had to be paid, before they could see him in live action, unfortunately. Some guys are nails in practice, but suck balls in live fire...and the opposite can also be true...A dude who practices like poop suddenly puts it all together when the pressure is on. Maybe Simmons really was doing well enough in practice that the coaches thought he could execute during games. it all sucks donkey balls.
The handwriting after watching him look like a USDA caliber player against the Chiefs is hilarious.

I would not be surprised at all if Wink Martindale turns him into a double digit sack guy by blitzing him up the A gap and having him come off the edge in certain packages.
As long as nobody touches him on the way to the QB

When the season is going badly and a former top 10 pick is riding the bench, fans and media will ask questions. Cardinals make this move to avoid that consistently occurring over the next 5 months.
In this scenario they will now be consistently asked about other things. It doesn’t change the “distraction” just the subject. And again, are these players/coaches that mentally weak that the benching of a subpar, although occasional play maker, becomes a distraction?

Ok, for those who think we (me and others) are in a smear campaign of Simmons...help me out. This is what ASFN has been saying about him (To be fair, I've been a Simmons defender and hopium supporter until this trade):

* Can't rush the passer, due to lack of strength, experience and technique
* Can't play inside, due to lack of coverage skills and bad hips (@DVontel)
* Lacks overall instinct to play safety/corner

What else am I missing here? He's a super talented athlete, that lacks some basic fundamentals and skills...and that's what's holding back. He may very well be one of the top 51 on the roster, as @Chopper0080 mentioned, but I think we all agree this is one of the worst rosters (talent wise) we've experienced in a long, long time.

Yea ok. Won executive of the year and was the betting odds favorite for exec of the year 10 weeks into the year 2 years ago.
Was also a drunk and got an extreme DUI which should have cost him his job.

Whiffed on many draft picks regardless of the team's success on the field during his tenure.

There's a reason guys labeled "Swiss Army knives" don't do well in the NFL. At the NFL level you don't need a guy who can play several positions - you need a guy who can play the hell out of one position.

Don't forget he (allegedly) set up another coach to be the fall guy for an indiscretion in Mexico, costing that coach his job.

Yeah, can't legitimately argue Simmons wasn't one of the 51 best players on this roster.

Sure, and that a few bucks buys a cheap cup of coffee.

He had six months to fit in and didn't.

Jack of all trades master of NONE!

Evidently, he wasn't part of the future, and the quicker they made him part of the Keim past, the better IMO.

That wasn’t even actually alleged. That was just a crazy what if scenario that made rounds on Twitter
Kuglers arbitration case mentions "mistaken identity"...not naming names. I understand Rapaport reported no mistaken identity, but Kugler himself floated that, not just the internet.

You think they care about what the media is saying? I'd say they care more about what is said in the locker room.

I think they care about the questions being asked to them by the media, especially ones that don't have a good answer. It's probably also true in the locker room, where everything I've seen (which is extremely limited and edited to make people look their best) is that he's a good dude who works hard, is talented, etc.

What a lousy job by Keim and company to structure it that way or is it just another case of being out negotiated by the agent?

I mean rookie contracts are fully guaranteed for the first four years. This was probably a salary cap structure that helps the team manage the cap coming into camp. Simmons' salary would be on the books with the Giants (and guaranteed by them) if he hadn't gotten the roster bonus instead.

Because that evaluation is against what you'd want in a top 10 pick, not compared to Zeke Turner, Jovante Moffatt, and Andre Chachere.

Simmons is without question one of the top 15-18 defensive players on the roster despite his limitations.
