100% agree. Sims at least held in the pocket tonight. Still can't step up into it and throws off his back foot too much but massive improvement from last game.

His pocket awareness is 10 times better than Stanton's as well.
I won't anoint Sims as QBOTF, But I like his skill set way more than Stanton's, it just bugs the hell out of me that Stanton has no idea of the concept of looking off a receiver.

Well, Stanton has not impressed this pre-season. He has a track record I'll give him that.

Point was that Sims is much better in awareness than LT has shown. He sustains drives, which LT is very bad at.

Stanton= Captain Staredown.

I thought Stanton looked like garbage again tonight, but surprisingly he completed 7/12 passes. I guess the 4 sacks & horrible interception really stick in my mind though. He got bailed out by Jaron Brown on what should've been another INT tonight when he put the ball up for grabs into double coverage. He wasn't really much better last year when Palmer was hurt, but we won games anyways because of our defense. He's a career 55% QB with more INTs (14) than TDs (12). He can't lead this team on scoring drives with any consistency, he stares down receivers/doesn't go through progressions, holds the ball too long (indecisive) & doesn't seem to be able to avoid a sack. We might be able to win some regular season games with him, but winning in the playoffs without Palmer is going to be extremely tough.

As for LT vs Sims, LT played well last week & got screwed out of a TD by Golden's drop. LT looked like garbage tonight. Sims played decently in the 1st game & played better tonight... he's led scoring drives in both games & could've had 2 scoring drives tonight if drops didn't happen. It's amazing to me that the guy still hasn't fixed his eye-sight. His eyes aren't terrible (20/50 & 20/100) but they're not good enough to compete at an NFL level. He has a much better touch on his passes & he moves better in the pocket avoiding pressure, but he doesn't have LT's arm strength. These guys have 2 more games to show who can be more consistent & productive. I'd give Sims the edge because LT teased up with 1 great pre-season game last year too & then stunk it up after.

Here's my take on it and I said it last week...We know what we have in Thomas-an unreliable 3rd string QB that we had to go out last year and get someone off the streets to Qb for us in the most important part of the season.....

I personally love Sims....I thought he looked pretty good last week and a lot better this week. Give him a chance with at least the 2's.

In my opinion, who cares if he stays in the pocket all the time....The way our offensive line looks now (poor), we need a mobile QB who can throw on the run. I feel much more comfortable with him in there then that unreliable scrub Thomas.

In my opinion, Thomas should have been cut in the off season. If you can't have him come in 3 quarters of the way through the season and guide this team, then why is here??

PS Thomas and keep Sims as the 3....He deserves it....

Sims deserves to make the final '53'. And of all the QB's behind CP, Sims is the one that I can see being a starting QB a couple of years down the road. Stanton has been a disappointment so far this TC, but he will be our backup QB. I just hope he can eventually perform as he did, last season. But Sims is the only hope for our QBOTF. JMO.

Hey BB-------as much as I was pushing for Thomas to be that guy in this game, I freely admit that it was Sims who was 'the man'. It was not even close, and in my opinion, Sims is already a better QB than Stanton, and has a far greater command of the huddle and his team mates than I have ever seen Stanton have. Right now, I would have no problem at all, with placing him ahead of Stanton as our back up QB to Palmer.

Both Palmer and Sims impressed me with their leadership and charisma, and their ability to move their respective team mates down the field and score. To me, Stanton, was just there, and appeared to be sleep walking through his time on the field. As for Thomas, I am saddened to say, that he was simply not engaged with his unit, or with what was happening around him.

Sims is not competing with Stanton. Last night I didn't care for LTs performance. Sims looked pretty sharp on short to medium balls and was able to find 2nd and 3rd options. A couple of his incomplete long balls the WR was not open.

Hasn't Drew Stanton been in Arians' system the longest? Sure doesn't show it. Man, that was ugly last night. Staring down his intended receiver and then just lofting balls to them so methodically that the defender was right there going for the ball with the wideout each time.

Sims was exciting and fun to watch as usual.

Thomas was bland and boring. Only threw it 4 times. Zzzzz.

I thought Sims looked really in control of the offense when he was in there. He made the correct reads and has a really strong arm. I especially liked his bootleg to the right for 7 yards and a third down throw to the left side off of his back leg while being rushed. I have much more confidence in him than LT already.

Any chance of using LT as a TE? Lots of us were thinking that was the master plan when he was drafted.

Problem with Stanton is that he has been in this system for a while now and should know it well.

He stares down his target, doesn't look off any one and doesn't know where to go when the first target is covered.

He still can't audible at the line of scrimmage. I know we don't do that in preseason, but I'm talking about during the regular season.

When will he be able to do these things decent enough? It's a huge step down from CP. I realize he a backup, but look at what Daniels did last week against us.

You can win games with Drew Stanton. Phillip Sims has done nothing to warrant the backup role. Silly.

I'd say more like, a very good D can win a few games with Stanton starting. Not much more. He'll keep you in it by not causing turnovers. He'll hit an open receiver or check it down. Can run a bit, but Sims is better avoiding the rush, imo. That can be big. We'll see how he does the next two weeks. LT's tenure here is tenuous. We'll probably only start the season with two QB's on the 53 mtl.

This is going to be an important decision. If Stanton has to start at any point one of these guys will not be far behind. To much tape out on Stanton now.

Let's see if he builds on it the next two games. Like I was saying probably only one of them makes the PS. I think it will be Sims as of today. LT has got to lead a couple of scoring drives. Sustaining drives to have a remote chance.

I'd actually not like to see Palmer in either of the next two games. Maybe just two series against the Raidas.

I do not see Sims as a small school QB because he had a stint at Alabama initially because he showed 'QB' talent opposed to Thomas' athletic talent. You cannot fix accuracy to a degree and Thomas does not have accuracy. I am not saying Sims is the backup and is our QOTF, but shows more promise to me than Thomas' situation presently with the Cardinals. Preseason is a crappy way to judge QBs, because there are no exotic blitzes and the QBs down the ladder rung are not facing 1st teamers either. I still do not know how well our DC will fare because he really has not planned for a regular season game yet and this is just base preparation. Stanton lastly is experienced and does fit the journeyman title and he was able to win some games for us... Sims and Thomas do not have that on their resume as of yet :)
LT hasn't really displayed any accuracy issues in this preseason. Almost every one of his throws was on the money in the first game and in this game he had one deep ball that he slightly overthrew on a deep corner route, one that the TE turned the wrong way on (should have been a TD) and one that was just a little late out of his hands and thus the receiver got hit as the ball got there (ball was on the money there as well).

I honestly don't know how the guy completes a pass, 1 millisecond after the snap and his eyes are glued to the target.

TE can turn either way. That's the way he read the route. Thomas read him wrong, imo. The other one is a concern because his reads can be slow and that's a throw that should have been avoided and WILL be picked off by a starter in this league. You can't leave your WR to hang out to dry like that either.

Firmly disagree with this. He was running a corner route and had a ton of space to the outside. That ball was thrown perfectly for the TE to turn to his outside shoulder and catch it in stride. If it had happened the opposite way than it would be on Thomas, but it didn't. The throw where he left his receiver out to dry was either a ball placement issue (throw it to the back shoulder) or it was a little late (hit him right out of his break). It wasn't a bad read, but didn't hit the receiver in the right spot or the right time.

I don't know if Sims can be a good NFL stater but it's clear IMO the rest will never be. Stanton is a good two but he has maxed out there.

Wolfley was talking as if we may only keep 2 QB's so who knows.

Whoa!!! Put that pipe down Catfish, Sims is fighting for to be on a roster or practice squad and playing guys that won't be in the NFL with very little defensive scheming, Stanton has won some games for us - huge difference. I get that Sims seems to show better POTENTIAL relative to Stanton, but that isn't what you put behind a 36 year old starter when you are trying to get to the Superbowl.

Shoot, if we're all going to go nuts about preseason, why not just go all in:

Sims is better than Palmer. This is not debatable. Anyone who thinks otherwise should get a neuroscan ASAP.

I might be wrong on the corner route, I thought he was running more of a seam route. The other one shouldn't have been thrown. By the time he threw it, then it became a bad read. He recognized too slow on the safety help coming over. If he throws it to the back shoulder the CB has a good shot at it from what I could tell.

Point was that Sims is outplaying LT. You're taking it to the extreme.

Stanton hasn't show anything either THIS pre-season.

Pretty certain TJ was being sarcastic about Catfish's comments about Sims being better than Stanton.
