I am excited - I really have nothing against Kolb - He is what I graded him at, And I'm sad I was right- so far- He is important and not a large drop off from Skelton - yet! Kolb is Cardinal and And has my support.

Now John RED SKELTON can through it close to 100 yards? has nifty feet for 6'6" is as tough as 2 MFers. ( or 49ers as the case may be) Skelton has earned it by stepping in as a back up and doing his job!

Be patient with the boy and let him grow at his own pace, He may have a few rough outings than hit the learning bubble as bust through as a better than average NFL QB. He is our best hope for this year and the future. Has as much experience as Kolb now!

I hope he grabs it by the throat and chokes this oppurtunity.
Go Fordham! ( I hope Steve makes the team?- cause that is just to cool)

Schefter is reporting that it's Skelton on ESPN as "breaking News."

Cites Caplan (ughh!). Doesn't rule out move to Kolb or Lindley down the line.

 Yeah, that's the way to manage a QB, tell him the job's his for now, but let him know that at the first mistake he'll get pulled. That way he play nice and loose! :sarcasm:

This is my thinking, except I favor Skelton. But, the same for both guy's - shouldn't start them with the idea that they won't have a second chance, should they have a bad performance. They should know that they'll have an opportunity to work through their rough spots.

I hope that the rough spot doesn't come in the first game vs. Seattle though. :billthecat:

Who said anything about first mistake? Where's that quote?

The fact that everyone but the local guys are reporting it makes me think they were told to keep quiet.

One thing old time Cardinal fans will remember is that Bill Bidwill loves to do things that he thinks will fool the media and the majority of fans. That was widely reported while the team was in St.Louis.

So this Skelton thing is just a Bill Bidwill trick. Anybody who thinks that Bill Sr. is totally out has never worked in a family business.

If he is 0-21 with 7 picks then you should probably do something. But if you want to give him any chance to grow into the role then you cant have him looking over his shoulder after every screw up. Rotating QBs does not work.

Well, live with certainty that he'll have a much shorter leash.

Its not what I think will happen, but what undoubtedly should happen. There is no bonus to rotating your QBs and having a young guy sweating every screw up. Let him go out there and try to win games, leave it at that.

I didn't think wiz had the balls to do this so kudos to him. He prob didnt have a choice though... Just like Leinart...Kolb didn't win the locker room over.

So depending on if Skelton keeps the job Kolb is gone next year..

So under no circumstances, short of injury, do they pull Skelton?

Anything Phrazbit says about the QBs should be taken with a grain of salt.

As for leashes, I'd imagine Skelton's leash isn't as long as people think. He won the competition, but not convincingly enough, IMO, to be absolved from possible failure. If Skelton struggles for four weeks, like Warner in 2006 and Anderson in 2010, he could be replaced by halftime and lose the job all together.

Looks indeed like it's the Skelster, but with one note of caution: Sometimes what appears to be credible info from several different sources all leads back to one source (in this case Caplan from Philly). What I'm waiting for is an official statement from Wiz or something from Darren on the official website.

I listened to the clip and I think Skelton's leash is pretty long.

Yeah, because I was way off base about Kolb... :D

I am not saying that Skelton WILL have a long leash, but I am saying he SHOULD.

And if we start out 1-5 or something and he is awful throughout then yeah, you bench him. I am not saying you ride him to 3-13. But the guy is going to have bad games, and if he is a mixed bag, good and bad (like he was last year), then you cant bench him at a drop during the bad games if you ever want him to grow out of his bad habits.

I'm shocked. No way in a million did I think Whis would do this.

Not that Skelton is great shakes, but he gives us the better chance to win, IMO...albeit slight.

However, what a freaking waste of $8 million in the offseason not cutting Kolb loose.

Whis just had a press conference about 15 minutes ago dude. And he said "something like" we believe John Skelton gives us the best chance to win so he'll be our starter.

Whiz did officially say it in his press conference.

NEWS FLASH: It's about putting the guy who gives the team the best chance to win under centre. That is beyond doubt!

In the end, it all boils down to W's. If Wiz did the prudent thing, went with the bean counters and then lost 10 games, his job would be in jeopardy.

From a survival standpoint, Wiz had to go with the guy he felt would win more games.

To do otherwise and then lose would put him in a position where he'd rue the day where he lost his job after making a decision he didn't really believe in.

That would be a horrible personal tragedy.

... thats fine... the point is if you're a revolving door at QB then your not giving anyone a chance to win under center.
