You’ve been complaining about Ingruber since he wasn’t cast. Don’t you think there is a reason he hasn’t gotten any significant work in his career? He was even just average in Age of Adeline. Acting is a lot more than simply looking like a classic character.

I've been a diehard Star Wars fan since seeing the original film on the big screen as a kid, but have almost no interest in seeing this crap.

The lead looks nothing like Solo because the first directors modeled this film after the Star Trek reboot series and felt if Chris Pine could be Kirk without looking like him so why not Solo? Uh, because this is supposed to be within the same universe and actually be the same exact character shortly before he appears in a Mos Eisley cantina, that's why.

This film is completely unnecessary but if it had to be made the lead should have been a ringer for Harrison Ford - like Anthony Ingruber. Before someone knocks him for lack of acting chops - Alden was struggling so much on the set of this film that an acting coach was brought in (mid-production) to help him.

And the latest - a Dumbledore move of sorts - one of the film's writers has "revealed" that Lando is pansexual. Give me a freaking break.

really??
I thought Chris Pine was a dead on perfect casting for James T Kirk.

I have been a star wars junkie from day one....literally seen the original,...in theater, over 100 times...in theater.

This kid looks enough like Harrison Ford, face maybe a bit wide... but whatever.

what needs to be captured is the spirit of the character and there is no way of knowing if that gets done without seeing the movie.

but I get ya..... I thought Glenn Danzig should have been cast as wolverine.... but somehow that aussie guy grew on me

also thought Angela bassett should have been storm.... hell, still think that...Hallie Berry was a fad casting

I thought casting for the Trek reboots were pretty solid myself. I love the reboots and Trek was dying on the vine. Those movies got my kid interested in Trek.

To me the actor choice never was the problem for solo. It was the fact there is very little difference in age from when Ford started the character to this version. That’s hard to overlook! It’s always easier to swallow when there is a huge age gap when doing a prequel.

I completely agree this movie was totally unnecessary. There are so many other untold stories they could have done instead!

It is Star Wars though. I will see it. The only thing I have heard is that this is the 1st Star Wars film that doesn’t feel like an event. It feels more like a Saturday morning old school serial.

I think what people mean is with so much new material waiting to be made they didn’t need to revisit the character Solo when he was younger. We already met him when he was younger.

It will do until the next movie comes out for me I am sure.

It would make a lot more sense if your comments were made post viewing.

Your comments would make more sense if they weren't based on everyone HAVING to see it. "Give it a chance till you've seen it." Except people don't have to give it a chance OR see it. I don't have to see it to have the opinion that I don't want to see it lol Yours is a very strange stance.

Saw it at at special screening. Not as bad as expected. I liked it. The twist/reveal at the end is worth the price of admission!!!

Upon seeing it, it is obvious this is the first of a Solo Trilogy (I'm pretty sure the main actors signed 3 picture deals).

Darth Maul lives!!!!

I think it was, but my ticket was free. I was among the group who questioned the need for this movie, but it is Star Wars, so there was no way I wasn't going to see it opening weekend. It is mediocre in parts, but there are moments that die hard fans will really appreciate. For example we now know where Ron Howard stands on if Han shot first. You don’t get as many cheesy wink and nod callback moments as I feared there would be.

I still prefer the EU (Legends Universe) books about Solo's backstory.

This is really the first Star Wars movie without galaxy-spanning stakes. It is a heist movie. But then they try to ham-fist galaxy-spanning stakes into the heist. Not my favorite plot decision.

Chewie, Lando, the Falcon... those don't disappoint. Even Han was better than expected. So for that, I am grateful. Of the characters created for this movie, only one stands out. The rest were so incredibly forgettable.

I agree with all of this.

For those worried about the actor pulling off Han, I bought in pretty quick.

Jumped over to RT, to see how this is doing. Wow, it's getting CRUSHED. The audience hates it more than the critics (56% to 71%), and the critics are not being kind. Even the "fresh" reviews are uncomplimentary. I didn't expect that, from the comments here.

Can’t trust RT fan scores anymore. There is a group that intentionally tries to sabotage audience scores of Disney (Marvel/Lucasfilm) movies.

I think the critic scores are more fair. “Hey we thought it’d be a train wreck, but it turned out to be salvageable, mindless fun.”

That’s about right.

That’s the rumor but RT has been removing fake reviews. Notice Blank Panther and Infinity War did just fine.

The fan reviews are probably pretty accurate based on all my friends who have seen it so far.

True ....

Saw it last night (not a huge Star Wars fan, but have seen most of them). Whether he physically looks like Harrison Ford is secondary to me. I just don't think he captured the 'essence' of Han Solo.

It was ok. Too many car (spaceship) chases, not enough character development.

they pulled a tough gig on this one. how much character development can they really do?? we all know how Han turns out.
the only things they could really do was show how he met chewie, how he met Lando,...winning the Falcon,...they HAD to show the Kessel Run...

but if he ever had a wife and three kids who were murdered by the empire we would have known that already.

this character has been fully developed for forty years....all they could do is tell the stories.

there was no way to win. had they added in anything significant the world would have cried that "we would have known that already"

I mean,... I guess they could have thrown in some obscure wookie tradition that forced solo to marry chewies sister...who was then tragically murdered by the empire a week later...and chewie now sticks with him because han is his brother in law, and the only family he has left??

As was said, they've worked on that problem. But if you want to hang your hat on 71% and lukewarm, apologetic positive reviews, that tells the story too. The 'fresh' reviews all said stuff like, "if you check your expectations at the door" and "mindless" and the like as well. Yikes!
