I agree with the rest of what you said, but nobody knows more than Rooster Cogburn about anything manly, and football is definitely manly.
And Marion did play college football for? You guessed it! USC!

That is just about the least insightful and most ridiculous point I have read on ASFN over the years.
Then dont read it. Talk about whiny, my god. Go fix yourself up a manpon or something, because I haven't written anything outrageous here at all tonight.
Mitch I love your posts. You are passionate, articulate and bring a great deal to this board. You think outside the box and I love it. I can't support you here though. This post is crazy. The minute you start thinking pundits and "journalists" who get paid to stir crap up just for ratings think they know better than the team, you should sit back and take a deep breath to collect your thoughts. That's like saying Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity know how to run this country better.I actually support ESPN on this...they seem to have a better understanding of what it takes to move an offense and win football games than our own head coach.
1. If you're a parent ask youself "Would I want my kid to read this and if they do, would they think I am a moron?"
2. "Would I want my parents to read this and if they do, would they think I am a moron?"
3. "When I sobor up would I want to read this, and if I do would I think I am a complete and utter jackass?"
If you answered yes to 1,2, or 3 take a deep breath have a beer (or another) and rethink your post. If you answered no go for it!
CAN I GET A LETS GO CARDS!
That's the spirit bro!Let's go Cards.
Why Whiz has allowed this to fester and perpetuate is absolutely mind-boggling to me. Quite frankly, I've lost some respect for Whiz in how he's handled this...and it would be alright with me if he and Leinart went elsewhere and Russ Grimm took over.
Success in the NFL is measured in wins & losses. A team's record year-to-year may be viewed as a barometer for the success of a team and coaching staff. If the number of wins in a season goes UP from the previous year, that means that the coaching staff led the team to an improved performance over the previous season, which generally indicates improvement in the team's play.
Since the average NFL coach would, statistically, tend to coach a team to identical record as the year before (indicating no significant improvement or decline), then a coach that drives a team to an improved record may be called successful, above average, effective etc.
The Cardinals were 6-10 in '06. In '07, Whisenhunt's first season, they were 8-8. That is a two-game improvement. Therefore, so far, he is a successful NFL head coach.
Hilarious stuff.
See it's catchy Dan!Fact check: 06' Cards were 5-11
I agree with your post however. The key this year is to win 9 or more. No AZ coach, and there have been a few, has done as well or better in their second year.
Oh, and for CT, Lets Go Cards!

9's the key, but why settle when you can overachieve.

Going back to the St. Louis days, you had Don Coryell who went from 4-9-1 to 10-4-0 in his second season.
I'd settle for a 5 1/2 game improvement!
that's what i was thinking. A short passing game is what this offense needs. We have no established downfield threat. Plus, Warner's never been a great downfield passer either. Most of his success came from intermediate routes as well. It's pretty hard to rely on mainly a vertical passing game and be successful in today's NFL. Maybe Al Davis will figure that out some day.Remind me again what trait it is that made these 2 recievers Pro Bowlers? What is it about Boldin that we love so much here? I'm pretty sure it's not that they're great vertical threats because everyone is always commenting on their lack of speed and there was a lot of discussion this offseason about adding a true deep threat to the roster.
Call me crazy but I think a short passing attack fits this guy to a T.
This guy is pretty damn good at those intermediate routes. Nice 45 yard throw from Leinart at the 1:05 mark. I think he'll be just fine with Leinart.
Right, he was the last Cardinals' coach to improve from year one to year two. What year was that, do you remember? I posted "AZ" coach for a reason. You St Louis Cardinal fans have me beat, I didn't become a true fan until they moved to my state.
What was so horrible that I said?????????????????????How can one not read it? Every thread on the board is either flat out Warner v. Leinart or polluted with it after the fact.
Again I ask, what the hell has Leinart done good or bad to deserve such vitriolic responses and waaaaaaaay over the top attention? He hasn't been stellar, and he hasn't sucked. You would think he killed the last woman on earth the way some people are going at him for a crappy half of preseason football.
Good post! After reading the entire eight pages of posts on this subject, here's my two cents worth...
1. Ken Whisenhunt and Todd Haley are in THE very best position to determine which quarterback gives the Arizona Cardinals football team the very best opportunity to defeat the San Francisco Forty-Niners football team on September 7th. I'll support their choice.
2. Both sides of this "discussion" are passionate about their views and present some valid points.
3. I strongly disagree with the trashing and/or discrediting of Chris Mortensen by some in this thread. What is Mortensen supposed to do, ignore his source and not report what he heard from that source? It's fine to disagree with him, but the guy gets paid well to report "inside information" and he is just doing his job. His report was nuanced to the point of saying "the expectation" was that Kurt Warner would be named the starter. Only Mortensen knows how reputable and reliable his source was. Don't shoot messenger!
4. It's always the most passionate folks who get the most worked up over these situations. Every one just take a deep breath and relax.
IMO, we have the best coaching staff in recent memory. Yeah, they aren't miracle workers and still can't solve the penalty issue, but....
there seems to a lot of talent on board,
coaches seem to know which players fit their schemes,
coaches seem able to "coach up" their young players,
injuries have been minimal so far,
the early games are very winnable IMO,
and excuse while I take a gulp of Kool-aid, the Birds will fly high in 2008
I actually support ESPN on this...they seem to have a better understanding of what it takes to move an offense and win football games than our own head coach.
LOL
Mitch didn't you just write a thread that championed the genius of Wiz. And now because he benched a guy you like you question all his credibility.
You also wrote about Warner finishing the season strong and this is where his numbers took the beiggest spikes because he had like 7 TD's and few TO's. Well those games were meaningless. He's AROD can you and CC see that? If he would have started all those games that Matt supposedly "messed up for him" then he wold have lost those critical ones too. That's just his M.O.
To me Warner is the better QB on the road. But for this team and the "offense" you speak of (just because we have Boldin and Fitz doesn't mean Wiz wants to run the GSOT) Leinart is the play. He had a bad game but I bet against Denver at home he has a stellar game.
If not then start Warner. But if he does I can guaran-damn-tee you that you Pro Warner guys will be saying "oh well its against the scrubs"
Hes a young guy. He doesn't play well on the road yet. I think he deserves the chance to grow in to that.
And Wiz is a god send for this team. I will not have this anarachy and disparaging of his name.
