Peyton Manning's camp is aiming to make a decision on where he will play next season within the next week, according to sources, who add that while Manning prefers to stay in the AFC, he is open to playing in the NFC.

The one week part is great, the AFC is not. Although, none of the AFC teams make sense since they are all cold weather, open air stadiums. I thought they said he did not want either of those.

I heard they are not interested and are talking extension with Shaub. I guess Miami would be a fit.

Mods, can we just have a sticky Peyton Manning thread to post all the updates that will be coming in over the next week? It is getting hard to keep them all straight.

I don't think that him wanting to make the decision within a week makes Arizona more or less likely. It's better for him and better for the team that signs him to make the decision early in the process.

Yes but him making a decision early is in the Cards best interest because of the Kolb Roster Bonus.

Yeah, if he said he wanted to take his time and evaluate all options, we could cross the Cards off the list. The fact that he apparently wants to move fast at least keeps us in the conversation.

I deleted my post when Gee's post got moved. In his original post, he seemed to indicate that signing early was a sign that Manning was leaning towards Arizona. I didn't think that was the case. I do agree that Peyton deciding early is definitely in the Cards best interest.

Its between Miami and Arizona. Reggie Wayne lives in Miami and wants to sign there with Peyton. I think they have the slight edge right now.

Well, that settles it.

Likes the AFC better, and wants it done in a week.

The Cardinals are in the NFC, and it takes our front office a week to write the title of the hand written letter they would be mailing to Manning's agent to ask if he wants to visit AZ.

The snail and company are just not competitive enough for this kind of intensity.

Looks like Miami will be where he goes, IMO.

Double Duece!

Adam Schefter, what a waste. No one, in the history of on-air sports journalism, has used more words to say so little. His greatest strength is his ability to take what amounts to almost nothing and make it sound like breaking news. Before he moved to ESPN, I used to like this guy and I can't for the life of me remember why.

Miami isn't a cold weather area. Neither is Jacksonville and both of those are rumored. Going to the Jets isn't out of the question either.

 I was referring to the article and I missed Miami when I read the article the first time and Jacksonville was not listed in.

Well, this article isn't the be all that ends all of the Manning saga so just because Jacksonville isn't mentioned in this particular article doesn't mean they are on the list of interested teams and according to 2 yahoo articles, they are. Not saying they're on the short list but they're on one of the 100 lists.

I'm really curious if he is going to throw for anyone. I'm sure someone will pay him without knowing how well he's doing, but it would be something that I would be hestiant to do.

Guess where Peyton flew to after his news conference yesterday? Glendale?

No, actually it was Miami. This article says Miami is very confident of their chances of landing him. http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/03/08/2681590/miami-dolphins-very-confident.html

But check out what Peyton says about the various teams:

Peyton Manning flew to South Florida on Wednesday shortly after he and Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay announced Manning’s departure from the team.
The Dolphins hope he will stay here for good.

Manning, who flew here because he has a condo on South Beach, was released at 4 p.m. Wednesday, immediately making him available to sign with any team. The Dolphins’ pursuit, which is already underway, will ratchet up in the next few days as the most coveted-free agent in NFL history decides which teams to engage in serious discussions and which teams to possibly work out for.

Manning stopped for TV cameras upon arriving in Miami Beach and was asked about his interest in the Dolphins. “I have no idea who wants me, what team wants me,” he said. “I literally have not had one conversation with anybody about these teams. I haven’t thought about teams.”

Asked by WSVN-Fox 7 what he would tell Dolphins fans who want him to be the next Dan Marino, Manning said, “Well, it’s certainly flattering. Dan Marino is my all-time favorite quarterback after my dad and my brother. He’s No. 3…. The Miami Dolphins have a great organization, great history. They have new people in place. We have no idea what teams are interested.”

Asked whether it would be appealing to play with Brandon Marshall and Reggie Bush, Manning didn’t answer directly but said both are “studs.”

I do think the title of the article sums it well

"Peyton Manning praises Miami Dolphins, but non-committal about interest"

Geez Jim Irsay in that picture looks like the guy (leader) from Terranova (and the bad guy in Avatar)

Yeah, there's no doubt he has all the leverage. I think it's unprecedented that a player coming off sitting out an entire season, with such a dicey health situation, is sitting in the catbird's seat like Manning is.

Still, I can't blame any team that signs him even if he never plays a down again. If it's the Cards, at least we took our best shot at the brass ring. No one will ever question our desire to win.

Not sure why the Dolphins are so publicly cocky on this. Seems stupid to raise expectations like that.
