‘Breaking Bad’s’ Jesse Plemons Eyed for Lead in ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’

Jesse Plemons, who starred on both “Breaking Bad” and “Friday Night Lights,” is in contention for a lead role in “Star Wars: Episode VII,” multiple individuals with knowledge of the top-secret casting process have told TheWrap.

A representative for Disney/Lucasfilm had no comment.

Plemons is scheduled to meet with director J.J. Abrams next week to discuss the highly anticipated sequel, which is expected to bring back original stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford. Plemons has already taped an audition that was well-received by those involved in the casting process, and he’ll by flying in to Los Angeles from Austin, Texas for a second audition that will bring him face-to-face with Abrams.

While Plemons is represented by Talentworks, a smaller agency located in Burbank, two well-placed sources within the major agencies have told TheWrap that Plemons is a favorite to land one of the coveted lead roles in the “Star Wars” sequel; a third individual confirmed that Plemons is in the running and a serious contender.

There’s been no chatter on what role Plemons might take, but Plemons does bear a resemblance to Mark Hamill, and at 25 would be the right age to play the offspring of the 62-year-old Hamill’s Luke Skywalker.

Michael Fassbender, Adam Driver and Hugo Weaving are among the many actors to catch director J.J. Abrams eye – while sources indicate Luke, Leia and Han will have larger roles in the film than originally thought.

This is actually approaching the area of being ridiculous. Everyday there are new casting rumors and yet we haven't seen a single confirmed actor signed for this movie. That seems strange considering they are reportedly to start filming this spring. Not to mention the "open casting call" PR stunt.

Are they going to have some huge casting reveal show thrown by Disney? Is there some major Star Wars event coming up to make an announcement to the die hard fans?

FWIW I would love to see Michael B. Jordan and Jesse Plemons in the film just because Friday Night Lights is probably one of my favorite TV series of all time.

And despite all my current complaints and those I will inevitably make during filming I will still be there day 1 to see it.

I think this is all on purpose. If you remember prior to the Star Trek films there were TONS of rumors. I think these are all intentional to keep people guessing about actors and exact plot.

J.J. Abrams says the script for “Star Wars Episode VII” is complete, and confirms that he’s talked with “Breaking Bad” actor Jesse Plemons about a role.

“We’re working really hard and we’ve got our script and we’re in deep prep,” Abrams told TheWrap. “Full steam ahead, y’know.”

Judi Dench is rumoured to be up for the role of Mon Mothma in Star Wars Episode 7.

The actress, 79, has been tipped by Big Shiny Robot to play the rebel leader who helped co-ordinate the attack against the second Death Star.

Mon Mothma was in "Jedi". She gave the briefing/speech before the attack. "Several Bothans died..." So that was a somewhat critical role.

Zac Efron has confirmed he is in talks with producers about possibly appearing in Star Wars: Episode VII.

The actor, who rose to fame in Disney's High School Musical franchise, is the latest screen star to express interest in JJ Abrams’ film.

Speaking to MTV, the actor said he was keen to join the cast but had not yet been told whether he had got the role.

“I just went and met with [the producers]. So I don’t know. It would be cool. I love [the Star Wars movies], I love them, but…who knows?”

Oldman was asked about Star Wars Episode VII while doing an interview for RoboCop and he admitted that Lucasfilm had given him a jingle regarding the film.


"Yeah…I don’t know whether I — It’s so [long pause] you have to be…I’m more cynical about it now. I always believe when I’m on the plane home. The deal wasn’t done. But, yeah….they’ve inquired (laughs). Yeah…"

I'll be honest...if he's in the movie, I won't rush out to see it. Sure, I'll see it in the theaters eventually, but I'd immediately be turned off from making it a priority if that kid is one of the stars.

Really, why? The kid is no Olivier, sure, but nothing he has done makes him out to be horrible, IMO. I'm not going to see the movie because of him, but I'm also not NOT going to see the movie because of him, either.

I think he's pretty talentless as an actor and if this is the way they're looking at casting a MAJOR role (and there's no way that guy does anything but), I'm gonna be super skeptical about the direction of the movie.

The site's Harry Knowles reports that he has "heard from two different sources" that Irish actor Jack Reynor "has landed a role in EPISODE VII." Knowles admits that he doesn't know what part Reynor will play, and cautions that Reynor's potential casting is still a rumor.
