Adam Driver (from Girls) has apparently been cast as a major villain in the new series. Whoever he's playing, I like seeing him cast in this. Dude's a major talent, IMO.

I don't watch Girls so I will have to take your word for it that he is good for the part of a villain.
I hate-watch that show, but Adam is far and away the best character and the dude nails a role that could go off the rails really easily in the hands of a lesser actor.
After meeting with several young actors this past year, sources tell Variety that “Downton Abbey” thesp Ed Speleers, “Attack the Block” star John Boyega, Jesse Plemons and theater actors Matthew James Thomas, and Ray Fisher are among the men J.J. Abrams is eyeing for the lead role. Though some insiders warn the search is still ongoing, multiple sources confirm to Variety these actors have moved to the top of the list in recent weeks.
One of the key pieces of information that all Star Wars fans have been waiting for arrived today as Disney chief Bob Iger confirmed that Star Wars Episode VII will be set three decades after the events of Episode VI, Return of the Jedi.
But that wasn’t all as Iger continued, telling Disney’s shareholder meeting that a trio of new leads would be joined by some very familiar returning faces, all but confirming the presence of the ‘Big Three’ of Harrison Ford as Han Solo, Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia and Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker.

That's a key piece of information? It has been 31 years since Jedi, so it only makes sense if you're going to have many of the key actors from the original trilogy in the seventh film that you'd set it 30 plus years after that trilogy ended.
In other news, the sun rose today, it is warm in Arizona, and it is cold wherever it is snowing.
Very true...I guess they could have made it further in the future (Carrie Fisher sure hasn't aged well)
In order to give maximum creative freedom to the filmmakers and also preserve an element of surprise and discovery for the audience, Star Wars Episodes VII-IX will not tell the same story told in the post-Return of the Jedi Expanded Universe. While the universe that readers knew is changing, it is not being discarded. Creators of new Star Wars entertainment have full access to the rich content of the Expanded Universe. For example, elements of the EU are included in Star Wars Rebels. The Inquisitor, the Imperial Security Bureau, and Sienar Fleet Systems are story elements in the new animated series, and all these ideas find their origins in roleplaying game material published in the 1980s.
Really good actors cast so far gives me hope. Then again, Ewan McGregor and Natalie Portman were really good actors cast in the new trilogy and we all saw how that worked out. Hopefully this sucker has a great script. I'm not the biggest JJ fan, but at worst his movies are usually entertaining and it would be nice to be entertained by Star Wars again.
No Lando seems a bit odd.
I guess it's possible that he comes back in the 2nd or 3rd movie, right?

It could be that John Boyega is Han and Leia's kid, which is why we never see Lando.
