The only thing I didn't see was a sense of humor.

BA probably overdid it with his foul mouth---but he could get a laugh out of the players. No doubt BA loved his guys (sometimes to a fault) but now they are in for some tough love. Our new coach needs to come in and grab the attention of the players---can loosen up later. Very hard to come in as their buddy and then try to get tough.

I think the players are in for a Wilks boot camp surprise. First point he made was on 'physicality'---he's probably looked at the tape of our D and identified at least one player who will have to stick his nose into the play and make tackles.

HC Wilks also stated that he did not like pre-snap penalities. He must have looked at tapes of our O and a certain TE who jumps offsides and puts us in 1-and-15 down situation---with the game on the line.

I'm nervous about this hire. Wilks has been a HC only once, for one season at Savannah State and has spent most of his life in North Carolina. I think he will get the most out of our DBs as he was one in college and has coached the position most of his career. Hopefully we assemble the right personnel to make his job easier. The introductory press conference was not impressive. He seemed to have only a superficial understanding of the players on the roster and an extremely vague offensive/defensive philosophy. Pretty sad if Wilks was our day-one front runner.

I'm not sure how you gathered that from the presser. At all.

You do not talk too much about players in your first presser or your exact scheme direction, you do not talk shop in public when in one hand you may have a tool and the other an ax in roster decisions. You would also be lying because you do not know them well enough to see what you are going to do with them in your anointed system which they will also decide. You do not let the rest of the league have a clear idea in the only moment of your career you can hide from them what you may be doing in the draft. Show me a professional coach in his first presser who would answer you

Man, if you read between the lines of so many of the things he said---it sounded (at least to me) like he was hinting specifically at certain players on the roster: "every one is accountable, no one is entitled" (Peterson), "pre-snap penalties are mental and post-snap penalties are selfish" (Gresham), "I want coaches who are teachers, ones who can relate to different personalities" (Humphries, Nkemdiche), "the elephant in the room" (no QB). if that's, as you call it, a "superficial understanding" of the roster then he sure was intuitive in identifying some of the key problems on this team.

Quiet confidence. I will show you rather than tell you kinda guy. I think that is exactly what this team needs now. The old Cardinals were over confident, because BA SAID we were better than (the rams for example), you won't get that with Wilks. And that is a change I am welcome to.
Agree. This team had business being over confident going into games.

I will admit that I snickered. I am a black man in Arizona for 20 years so the point is not lost on me. I also have a dry sense of humor. But I get where people might not take too kindly to it. I also would refrain from talking about his kids in any negative light.

Somewhat off topic

I will say that I do take personal pride in that our team has made it clear that they are not only color blind in the hiring process, but also gender neutral. We might be one of the few if not the only NFL team that has hired multiple black Head coaches and was the only one who actually did hire one this year. Not only that, MB is not beating his chest about it.

I love this team.

Agree that the kids are off limits. What I see in the photo is someone who has been uprooted from her circle of friends, her school, her routine---and her face registers her culture shock. Tough to make the move and start over in a new place. Lots of stress for the adults let alone the kids.

Cards have long been progressive in terms of who they hire---even Mr. B with the old St. Louis Cards. Sports is the one arena in our society where performance is the great equalizer and final judge. Hopefully we can evolve to the point where the Rooney Rule is no longer needed and the individual's resume and success and potential as a coach is the criteria for job openings. The only color of importance is Cardinal Red.

After watching his press conference, I can see why players love him! Some might have thought it was silly that he mentioned the cooking of the food and cutting the grass, but to truly change the atmosphere, everyone needs to be on board. That's when it becomes infectious!

The one place that I am very optimistic that Wilks personality can help is through the draft process. Any of us can watch a guy on tape and make our own evaluations of them as a prospect. The huge advantage that NFL personnel have is the interview process. They are able to sit down with the players and get to know them. This is an area that has been lacking in the past regime. They have selected players that didn't have that fire. Wilks seems to have that special gift to communicate on a personal level with his players. I think this will be a huge bonus!

Yep wants to get physical, physical - our climate/dome leans us to be soft and pass a lot - but rams. 9ers and hawks are getting pretty damn physical - I don’t know enough about Wilkes to figure much out - but the nfc south were not built for cold playoff games - but all run well with top QBs - many tend to scold me all about the run, but it’s the balance I’m about - if they can’t see BA and Whiz one dimensional tendacies shattered our window of opportunity- just look at the times we were near last in rushing in the last decade - and never closed the deal. Just middle of the nfl in rushing with our pass game could have got a championship - like CJ 2015 and 13 wins.

Check this short video: says it all about Wilks' ability to converse with a people of different personalities. The great ones listen and respond with a genuine level of engagement and respect.

I like it!

Man could have afforded CJ and AP together last year - sharing snaps, oh well - could have been an epic try instead of an epic fail - we know more about young backs now - we can do better - still Logan isn’t proven and penny is a dime a dozen.

Cool find mitch - do you have any fear about hot dogs in AZ ? I hope our players don’t start standing over top of opponents putting their junk in their face like panthers do - Norman, Newton others have had some classless un Cardinal like moments in Carolina. I know many want more of that but I enjoy cardinal sportsmanship - will we lose some with Wilkes?

I liked Wilks demeanor and presence. True confidence doesn't need bluster and expletives to communicate.

It may be, hopefully, refreshing to not see the HC foul mouthing the referees all game long. I liked BA and appreciate all he did as HC but I think he got lost in ref berating too much at times and it cost him.

Glad for a clean break and the hiring of, from all appearance, a quality HC again.

It's a press conference. There is not a way for Wilks to win the press conference. However, he didn't lose it which is much more important.
