Strong parallels between Indy and Arizona make Cards favorite IMHO.

I for one am getting so sick of seeing the Networks drum up support for the big market teams in the Manning story. The more I watch this stuff, however, the more I am convinced that Manning ends up in Arizona. I am basing my theory on a couple of reasons: my experience living in Indianapolis, and what I have read regarding who Peyton Manning is beyond what we see in the commercials.

Indianapolis is a wonderful mid sized city. I lived there 18 years ago and still go back from time to time to visit. There is something about that place that just is unique compared to other big cities across the country. For one, it really is the place in the state of Indiana where stuff goes on. It has a reputation of being very good to its heroes, and it isn't a media mecca. When I was there, Reggie Miller, Marshall Faulk, and Jim Harbaugh were the heroes and those guys made their mark by outworking opponents and being great teammates. You can be a superstar in Indianapolis and still have a life. I think Peyton would tell you that is one of the reasons he has such a love for Indianapolis. Yes he is the biggest name in that city, but he still could go out and be a normal person without the worry of someone sticking a microphone in his face.

In my 7 visits to the Phoenix area over the last 15 years, I have always felt a familiarity between Phoenix and Indianapolis. I can't really explain why, but they just seem to be similiar cities and I really think that will appeal to Peyton. In Phoenix, guys like Steve Nash, Mark Grace, and Kurt Warner have been the heroes, all very similiar to Peyton in their hard working, humble approach to their craft. People in Arizona seem to admire those types of qualities in their athletes and just as with Peyton in Indy, these guys seem to able to live normal lives without all the media scrutiny.

Here are some fun facts showing how similiar the Colts/Cardinals franchises are historically:

1. Both relocated to different cities in the 1980's.
2. Both relocated to mid sized cities that never had pro football.
3. Both are family owned franchises.
4. Both have reputations of having stingy dad's as owners (Old man Irsay and Bill Bidwill) and ambitious sons (Jim and Micheal).
5. Both play in domed stadiums.
6. Both had/have hall of fame worthy wide recievers (Harrison/Fitzgerald).
7. Both are long standing franchises in professional football.

Ok, I am probably just rambling. Sorry!!!

Yup! I've been wondering whether Peyton and family have enjoyed having their home buzzed by helicopters over the past few days.

Wonder how many "new" fans signing PM would bring to the Cardinals "money pool"? I could see many fans of other teams FINALLY becoming "home town" fans and switching their allegiance to the Cardinals....

I have already told my family if we sign Manning I will go to as many away games as I can other than the one I go to every year.

Your point is well taken, but might all be narrowed down to "lifestyle fit."

Peyton publically seems to be a pretty informal, laid-back, cutoff jeans kind of guy more likely to enjoy a low-keyed lifestyle.

But is he? (Gobs of money can affect different folks in different ways - For example, Fitz travels abroad a lot).

And, if Peyton is low-keyed, is the Valley still that way? (It was my perception from several visits over the years that it is - but urban & semi-urban environments have been known to change over time).

Finally, stacked up against all the other variables (i.e. money, team dynamics, social relationships etc.) will the local scene play that big a part in his decision?

(I know "local fit" would count a lot if it were me, but I am not a filthy-rich star QB with most of my life ahead of me, a family to raise and several career options).

How many sports stars who come to AZ end up staying here after they retire? Seems like alot.

Off the top of my head: Kurt Warner, Charles Barkley, Randy Johnson. I'm sure there are more.

stars can still roam AZ without being bothered for the most part. Nothing like FL, NY, CA

The reason AZ is dismissed is because the national media doesn't like Phoenix's night life. They are really pulling for South Beach.

Hey, if they want to say our culture hasn't changed, and the NFCW is the weakest division, then I can say they are biased for selfish reasons, right?:D

Nice post. I agree and when I get too positive about humble, laid back Peyton, I remember that he chose to live in South Beach in the off season so it can't be too much a turnoff to him.

the reason AZ is being dismissed isn't because the national media doesn't like it's night life... it's because the national media thinks that Bill Bidwill is a questionable owner. nothing more, nothing less.

ROFL, we have probably the best nightlife in America.

Some may say Vegas or somewhere with a beach, but with multiple party districts pulling from a few hundred thousand college coeds in short proximity is a whole lot better. Beach areas are too spread out. We have a synergy only Vegas can top.

But we're talking about Peyton Manning here, so I don't even know why its an issue...because 'Thug Life' Manning needs a good place for his thug passion/purple drank.

Isn't it sad when the media (idiots supreme) thinks players should all go to the same spot? Manning isn't idiot LeNero. Manning is more about something real than praying to the false god of sensory perception...unlike LeNero...who still thinks sensory perception is everything.

ESPN...paging Jim Gray for The Decision Part Deux.

I agree it is good, but it ain't South Beach. That's all the idiot media whined about during the Super Bowl. "Everything is too far apart." "There's nothing to do..." Morons...

It only has partially anything to do with what Greater Phoenix is like and more to do with what Peyton is like and what he cares about (& if indeed he cares all that much about what the local scene is like).

We're just guessing here.
