:D

I was going to at one time, but the board got pretty bad when Sunderland were relegated and not doing well. For awhile it seemed all the threads were about everything but football.

Now that things have been looking up I will have to start posting. I'll probably make a fool of myself compared to the fans who have been supporters all their lives, but oh well. It won't be the first time. :)

How can they sign players a week before the season starts? Will he be ready to start?

I signed up. I am still trying to get up to speed on the dialect. It is a hoot so far.

The transfer window doesn't close until Aug. 31st., so teams will be bringing in transfers up until then. I think Hearts wanted to keep hold of Gordon and that's why it took so long.

Gordon has been training with Hearts so he will be fit to start the season, if indeed we got him.

So what is the story on Roy Keane? How did he end up with Sunderland?

In an effort to improve my English football knowledge, the wife and I have been watching the show "Footballers' wives." Crazy stuff.

So what is the story on Roy Keane? How did he end up with Sunderland?

Keano and the new chairman, Niall Quinn, were teammates on the Republic of Ireland team for years, although they admittedly didn't like each other much.

As I recall, Quinn wanted to get Martin O'Neill to be the new manager after Mick McCarthy was sacked, but O'Neill ended up at Aston Villa. Quinn then turned to Keane who is a revered figure in Ireland and England.

Keane had only quit playing a couple of years ago, but he took the job when Quinn assured him that there would be no interference with his running of the squad. So far, the results speak for themselves.

Sunderland 1-0 Tottenham

A dream start for the Black Cats as Michael Chopra scres the winner in injury time. :thewave:

That should help endear him to the Sunderland fans. :)
