I thought they did a pretty good job in the first half but the second half was very meh.
They had better pull it together for next week.

What a result!
That last goal was a thing of beauty.
Well, as Big Sam said, you got a gift and took advantage of it. I think the ref must have married into Big Sam's family just before the game, myself.

That foul was ridiculous.
Blame your player not the ref.
Edit: I am not saying I personally would have given a red there. I am just saying that if the roles were reversed, and Catts for example had committed that foul, I would blame the player for putting the team in that position.
It isn't like Sunderland hasn't been on the receiving end of calls like that in the recent past.
Agree Chaz, definite foul, and therefore, definite penalty. As for the red, only the ref can say why he sent the player off. Deliberate foul? Clear goal scoring opportunity? They can argue all they like, it was a foul, and the ref saw fit to issue a red. Simple as.

I agree with the foul and the penalty awarded however I do not think it warranted a red card. Yellow yes.
What a day. SIX in a row!!!!
Stone wall pen, the sending off was inevitable as soon as he gave it.
Saw some moaning about Cattermole handball.... See Ginger Judas earlier on...!!
Newcastle out played us for 30 odd minutes and the until Defoe came on we looked dead and devoid of ideas. Not saying Defoe did that well but it changed our shape and will looked better.
Mags could have been a couple up by that point but for all there possession lacked any bite. I also think BSA made sure we weren't caught out like Norwich last week and kept our back four very deep for that reason.
Second half just picked them off. Fan-bloody-tactic.
Still can't really speak today and drank enough for small country.
I don't like seeing a player injured and hope Colback isn't out for long, but the pelters he got walking off around the South West corner was a thing of beauty. Hilarious.
I just about fired off at you, but had to double check to make sure pelters didn't mean something different in English English...and it does. I thought you were applauding people throwing things at him, which would be complete douchebag 'I never want to banter with you again' land. Yes, it's sad, unsportsmanlike and, quite frankly, Oakland Raiders fan style to mock an injured player, so you still didn't cover yourself in glory, but a lot less bad
How that was a freaking THROW IN after that foul and not at least a yellow is still beyond me. I chalk it up to throwing a young ref who wasn't ready in the deep end. He choked at a few crucial moments, that's all. Granted, due to Colo's moment of madness, the 1-0 lead was fair and square, but all things being fair, I felt supremely confident in getting a result even after that. Celebrate the win, by all means, but fear the form you're in.
Won't argue that it was incredibly stupid and unnecessary on Captain Colo's part--not very captainlike of him. Definitely a foul and a penalty, but nobody besides Sunderland players and fans are saying it should have been a red.
As I said, only you guys and Mackem players are expressing any certainty that it's a red. Only in fantasyland would Fletcher have gotten to the ball first.
Right.
Bottom line is that Colo got stupid on a play that meant nothing. It's an easy pickup for Elliot if he simply stands there and does nothing. It's a shame, since Sunderland had absolutely nothing in this game.
Strangely enough, no one's commented as to why Cattermole escaped booking with his typical thug-like tackling. Our thug-like tackler Tiote got his usual stupid yellow, as deserved. Cattermole should have been booked, if not sent off himself.
Looks like the Red has been withdrawn, which makes it even funnier really.
Always a harsh red I guess, but at the time sat about 30 feet away with no reply (albeit with red and white tinted specs on) I thought it was a sending off.
I can help the ref that as soon as it happened there was 46000 chanting OFF OFF OFF! About time we got some luck this seaosn though.
Ha!
Yeah, this was a ref who didn't have the sack to work a big game, and it showed. Clear non-red, not to mention a non-penalty right before the penalty, and not even a FOUL on Cattermole's ridiculous, dangerous tackle on Colback. Pathetic ref display that changed the course of the game numerous times.
That said, I wish Mitrovic had buried that shot. Barring another moment of madness, Sunderland wouldn't have sniffed another goal.
Anyone have a link so I can see the red card?
No way in hell is that a red card. The two players were level at the very least, and even a bit behind. Wow, very soft.
I was totally convinced it was red! Was there, had a perfect angle to watch it as it was at my end of the pitch. 100% certain.
It's not a red is it!!
Some people at work today saying it wasnt even a penalty either, not having that.
Remember this one Newcastle got a few years ago... Laughable.

In real time I thought Fletcher had a chance at a touch that Colo took away.

Everyone knows it wasn't a red by now, Chaz.
