Vergini's back heal man!!! What was he thinking.

Massive result and shows we have some fight in us at least. Need to find a way of knicking points off Everton now!

I had a feeling you'd get the result at Southampton. Congrats.

Now that Chelsea has it wrapped up I wonder what that last game will look like. It sure sets up a scenario where the Black Cats want it/need it more.

It's a good day. Some pretty fair defense, a little luck, and a couple of junk goals. Back to safety for now.
Moved ahead of the mags on differential is a bonus.

Burnley down for sure now, pressure on for QPR tomorrow, and Hull in trouble after today.

Well, let's be honest. Some desperate defense, a lot of luck, and a couple of junk goals :)

Yeah, Hull's in real trouble. With my Magpies snagging a point, I think Hull's down. I don't care where Newcastle finish now, as long as it isn't 18-20!

Doesn't matter. 3 points.
:)
Totally that. We have some shocking luck this year, so we were due.

Game on Saturday is massive now, win and we are ok i think. I can see Hull getting some thing against Spurs and they are on the beach already. Man U will mostly likely have secured a top 4 and have a record of playing kids in dead matches. It's going to the wire again.

Congrats for staying up...but Newcastle are clearly the better team, because they finished higher in the table :D j/k

Hey, both Newcastle and Sunderland in the top division keeps the rivalry going. I'm good with that.

Ha'way the LADS!

Excitement building for the start of the new season, August 8th, away to Leicester City.

Anyone on here attend any of the pre-season games?

Looks like we are selling Wickham to Palace. 8 or 9 million is good money for a reserve but we really need to buy some quality... and as USM says there's only a week to go.

Lens looked good last night, but we did lose to Doncaster :-(

Join the club, we lost to York. Wow, that much money for Wickham? Highway robbery! I'd say the offense will really be a lot better for my lot, and we should be strong in midfield, but on defense....? Chancel Mbemba (sp?) should come in and do well, but he's still a question mark, and pairing him in central defense will be...will be...? Did I hear crickets? Newcastle will have to win games 4-3 to do anything at all this season.

Listened to the game, and Lens did sound like an exciting player, can't wait to see what he can do. We definitely need a spark.

In my opinion, we'd given Wickham enough chances, it wasn't gonna happen for him at Sunderland. Lack of effort generally, poor first touch, poor decision making, had his chance.

I have just about calmed down after that opening day display.

That's why I left my Sunderland comment only on the Newcastle thread. Would have been classless to rub your nose in it. I feel your pain, man--and I'm sure I will feel it plenty this season to come lol I can't root for your team to do better, but it saddens me that you have to experience it.

We'd better pull it together!

First 60 mins, we were awful. Two substitutions were forced on DA: Catts was way off the pace, and would probably have been sent off, Jones had been booked, and was still diving into tackles.

Actually, in the second half, we started to look ok, with Fletch and Defoe linking up. If they hadn't scored the 4th, which was marginally offside, I reckon we could have snatched something from the game. Mind, we didn't deserve anything from the game. Leicester played way better, particularly in the first half.

It's only the start, but hopefully that has woken us up.
