Interesting. I guess we'll have to go with that for now. However, it seems the news of TJ Warren signing would get more publicity.

Unlike the NFL and MLB where guys will haggle for a long time, NBA rookies have a locked in salary and year number from the moment they're picked. I cant ever recall the signing of NBA picks to be news worthy outside of foreign players with potential overseas commitments like Yao, Rubio and of course, the immortal Jake Tsakalidis.

It's simple to me. We have a ton of depth at his position and thus we must be looking into trade possibilities and he is a player that they are willing to trade. If they sign him they won't be able to trade him for a few weeks.

However, teams usually have an agreement before they select a player they do not plan to keep. I would hope McDonough did not make the mistake of drafting a player without any takers on-the-line. Although drafting an extra PG as a "safe" choice worked out with Steve Nash.

You make a valid point however some of us posters do wonder about such things be they newsworthy or not. Also why Warren is signed and Ennis is not.

Even though its only summer league, I can't imagine that he has much trade value right now

Tyler Ennis may have been the worst first-round pick at Vegas. He shot a putrid 21.9 percent from the field and didn’t make any of his six attempts from beyond the arc. There are almost too many weaknesses to count, so I’m not even going to go there.

At this point, if Bledsoe doesn't want to be here, and is just trying to squeeze as much money as he can out of things, I'd rather move him for assets to build on, that *want* to be here. Everything is so hypothetical, and its all hearsay at the moment. Something needs to budge, soon.

He's going to blame the Suns for not getting the max. He's not going to blame his injury history or anything like that. It's all the fault of the Suns that he isn't getting the max. RFA has never stopped other players from being offered the max by another team but he doesn't see it that way.

From the link above, the full quote is "First off, I'm letting my agent, Rich Paul, handle it," Bledsoe said. "I can understand the Phoenix Suns are using [being a] restricted free agent against me. But I can understand that."

What is wrong with what he said? As I said in the "Depth Chart" thread, I was exactly right predicting he wasn't complaining. The Suns are using restricted free agency against his demands for a max contract. He's not lying and he doesn't seem agitated at all. He shouldn't be criticized - That would just be fans taking "business" or contract negotiations personal. He's not taking the fact they are using the rules as leverage in the contract negotiations, so why are people taking his demands personal against him?

A 12 second video is online w/ Bledsoe saying the quote above ... What I HATE in general, not just in this instance, is that the interview doesn't show the QUESTION that was asked. This seems to happen all the time w/ the media - they show the answer to a question, but not the question.

An interview is a Q & A, right? Depending on what the question was, Bledsoe's response that the "Suns are using restricted FA against him, but I understand that." could be even more insignificant.

Maybe the question was specifically, "Are you frustrated w/ the Suns and do you think the Suns are using free agency against you?". In that case, his response would literally mean nothing since he was using the same language as the interviewer by using the word "against". No matter what the question was, it doesn't mean much ... But it could really be insignificant depending on what the question was.

Is it really that hard for the media to record a video of the answer AND the question to an interview?

Bledsoe needs a new agent - plain & simple.

Yep.

Eric certainly isn't gifted with the words. If he's going to make a comment, he certainly could have made a better, clearer statement. I doubt he's spoken to the Suns since the season ended. All his information is being filtered to him through his agent. Who knows what the guy has told him?

Fact remains, the Suns have made a reasonable offer. His agent is clearly holding out for a better deal either from the Suns or in hopes from another team in the chance the Suns would be open to trading him. There isn't anyone with cap room interested in his services that is going to offer him a contract, the same or for more. It's come down to IMO his inexperienced agent believing the Suns will come back with a better offer. I think it's time (maybe it's already that time) that they realize there is no need for the Suns to do that. Either except the deal or find a team that is willing to give you the same money and see if they can entice the Suns to accept what they have to offer.

I've read speculation here but I even heard Broussard speculating that the agent is strong arming the Suns to make a name for himself. An agent should ONLY have his clients best interest in mind. This guy has obviously screwed up.

IMO, the longer this goes on, the greater chance for an unhappy ending. Unless the Suns buckle significantly to Bledsoe and his agent's demand, it seems to me it will be a troubled ending. I can see at some point in time (sooner rather than later) the Suns will be looking for a sign and trade even if it is not ideal. Who wants a disgruntled player on the roster?

I don't understand what he is talking about. If no team is willing to offer you a max contract, how is that PHX's fault? Bledsoe's gripe should be against the rest of the NBA not PHX who is offering more than a player very close if not better in terms of production than Bledsoe got (Lowry). Obviously, he is trying to force McDonough's hand. Will McDonough start seriously looking at dealing Bledsoe as I don't think he is going to accept the 4/48 deal? I don't see why PHX should outbid themselves when the rest of the league isn't looking to spend that much on him. He should just take the deal, he'll be a FA at 28 so he could land another big deal (should he prove himself). I think the real reason PHX signed Thomas is because they knew negotiations with Bledsoe & his agent were not going to go smoothly and trading him probably would end up being the outcome.

I think comparing logic to greed does not work.

I feel like we shouldn't that offered $12M/yr to Bledsoe. We should have offered $9M/yr or something like that and then Bledsoe would sign with another team for $12M thinking that the highest he can get and then we could have just matched and case closed.

The debate is whether 4/48 is a low ball offer or not. I think most people feel it's fair in view of Kyle Lowry but possibly low ball in view of parsons and Haywood. My view is it's tight - that maybe we could have gone to 4/50 for 'psychological effect' of having a '5' at the start of the offer (if nothing else) but also to suggest to Bledsoe that we really value him (who here would really rather Lowry for the same price?) in order to avoid the situation we're in now...but it's still a fair offer and the suns are probably playing it how any other team would (bar the nets).

$9m per is definitely a low ball offer; Bledsoe would almost certainly tank the season for $3.7m, assuming no other team came in for him, and go unrestricted next season meaning we lose him for free, and we send a message to the rest of the league that Sarver really is tight, damaging our future hopes when trying to lure free agents here.

In other words, I don't see how your strategy makes sense?

Bledsoe is a gigantic douchebag with serious entitlement issues. No, Eric- you are not Lebron James, you are not God's gift to humanity, and the world does not revolve around you (nor does the NBA). You elected to become a restricted free agent, so untwist your knickers and stop acting like a spoiled 12 year-old.

I hope this d-bag gets traded and never puts on a Suns uniform again.

EDIT:
I suppose it's possible that he is just not very smart and is more of an idiot than a d-bag. Either way, I don't want to see him in the Suns uniform again.

Sounds like Eric and his agent believe the Suns being vocal about matching any offer is somehow using the rules against him. It's an odd way to look at it IMO, but he must believe that he'd have gotten a better offer otherwise and thinks the Suns scared off any potential deals. It's just an uninformed opinion being we have little to no information to go with, but it looks like his agent has him convinced he is worth more and that theere are teams out there willing to pay it if not for the the Suns making them believe it's a waste of their time to sign him to the offer. Who knows, he might have been correct? I hardly see that as a reason to hold a grudge, but with these young entitled minds I can imagine it's very possible they do. Just looking at 31 year olds Frye's comments and twisting of logic, it's not hard to believe a much younger Bledsoe with all the hype that has surrounded him will not see this as the Suns screwing him out of what he deserves.

It's time for the owners to fight for a contract system more like the NFL's A system where they are able to cut much easier. Maybe if these deals had less guaranteed money. A syste where they had to fight with the same zeal they did coming into the league. I know the rookie deals have been more structured to that of late, but the amounts these guys get in this league is insane and there seems to be little appreciation of which there should be an abundance and lots of entitlement of which their needs to be little. I know, that's a different conversation.

I'm sure the Suns at this point have been discussing possible sign and trade scenarios and have all their plan B,C, and D's laid out. As stupid as it would be for Eric to leave the $48 million guaranteed and play for his tender to look for a deal next summer, it's looking like it may be a real possibility in his mind. That's just a guess, but if he really believes he is entitled to a max deal and it's the Suns fault he did not get that offer, I wouldn't put anything past him. He will not only be able to deny any trade, but his value will be very little under those circumstances and unless the Suns are able to sign and trade him to a team next summer, which of course will also be in his court, they could likely lose him for nothing.

IMO it's time to work with Eric's agent to find a team that wants him and has something of value to send back. It's reached the point where what he is paid is no longer relevant. The potential loss to too great to gamble any further with this situation. I'm all for being patient as I've said over and over again in all issues, but with this one I think it's time to end the bluff and play the best hand they have.

4 weeks without an offer sheet shows even other teams are leary of Bleds short injury plagued career to this point. McD is smart to hold ground on his 4x48. Im hoping for a sign and trade to rid us from this money pit. Its def a gamble he stays healthy but not one with great odds. I trust McD will do the right thing.

I think this is the case.
Lebron James uses this guy so he is golden. This what his agent is telling him.

Just an off the wall thought (please take it for that) but the Suns seem to have a good relationship with the Pacers when it comes to trades. It is rumored the Pacers have had interest in Dragic for some time. Could the Suns do something like trade Bledsoe (instead of Dragic) in a sign and trade for Hibbert. The trade could work straight across but I think the Suns and Pacers would want want a larger package to improve their teams. However, Hibbert has a player option next season so this may spoil the idea.

The Suns aren't using restricted free agency against him. He is a restricted free agent. They've made a fair offer relative to similar contracts. They hope he outperforms his contract, as does every team; every employer. No other team has put forth an offer sheet--not even as a poison pill. One of the first rules of negotiation is never bid against yourself. It's his agent's fault for not securing outside interest, unless this is just a long game for a S&T. But the other team still needs to want to pay him the money, even if they are sending a contract the other way. That hasn't happened yet. It doesn't look good, though, unless Bledsoe and agent are in fact satisfied with the offer and are just trying to leverage an increase if they can.

I wonder if he received a better offer than what the Suns are offering but the agent told them not to bother if it wasn't a max deal.
