So is your speculation that it actually affects his game.

And so other guys post a ridiculous article that speculates that his hair is more powerful than the muscles in his wrist. I can't believe any of you guys take this seriously.
But the difference is I ADMIT mine’s speculation and you keep making speculations like they’re facts.

And we are speculating based on personal experience and you’re speculating based on the fact he’s not cut his hair.

But my speculations are based on common sense. If he stupid hair was a detriment to the game, I have faith that SOMEONE would have told him by now, and CERTAINLY his agent would have told him if it really was a problem with him getting a contract. It’s simply not believable that a) he’s been told to cut it and ignored it, or b) that coaches and front offices would simply not say anything if it really was a problem.

“Common sense” to no one on this board but you? That’s not using the word “common” correctly, Chap. Seems everyone else’s sense is that it likely does impact his game. Does it make him terrible? No. Can he play with it? Yes. Obviously. But again, if it impinges on even a single shot, or pass, or missed defensive opportunity it is, by definition, a detriment . . . even if just a slight one. And given the physics of the length of his hair, where it falls, and what we’ve observed of it, coupled with our own personal experiences that come as close to replicating that as any of us likely have come, I believe the common sense is that it is MORE LIKELY that it does somehow affect his game.

You are conveniently ignoring the main point I’m making, but ok. Again, if it does affect his game, how belieavble is it that either nobody has told him, or they have and he’s ignored it. This isn’t the playground, the NBA is a business. I’d think fans of this team understand that more than most.

I’m not ignoring it. I’m saying it is certainly a good argument that it might not negatively impact his game, or that the negative impact isn’t big enough that anyone wants to alienate him.

I do agree that it is one of the dumbest looking hairdos I’ve ever seen and I guess there could be some outside chance that it does affect his next contract negotiations, I just don’t think any effect has to do with his playing basketball.

If it truly does not affect his game it shouldn’t impact his next contract.

I can't resist. :D

So Chap. Do you ever see his hair growing too long in front to be a detriment to his game, the way he is growing it now?

Is there a cutoff where you say enough is enough. Would it be 1/8 inch, 1/4 inch, 1/2 inch, 3/4", i inch, 2 inches, etc., more.
I can't wait until it totally covers his face and he has to cut two eye holes in it so he can see straight in front of him.

Yeah but he'll still have supporters saying it's no problem. Saying the coaches are fine with it.

I do not want to dwell on the hairdo because I like Payton a lot as a player and as a person. I'm hoping the Suns keep him.

Perhaps if his hair grows longer, he might be able to pin it up in some way or use a hairnet or such.

I think Noah did something like this.

People argue all the time that just touching a guy's hand or wrist in the act of shooting throws off his shot. Shooting is about finesse not power.

If no one has spoken to him about it i suppose the reasons could be:

1. They haven’t been seen it impact his game in their opinion;
2. They posses some knowledge that he’s super defensive or sensitive to the subject (I mean do we know WHY he wears it like that? Maybe there’s a very personal reason)
3. Maybe there’s a clause in his contract (I realize this is absurd, but it illustrates how little we actually know)

If someone has spoken to him about it and he keeps it the reason they still give him minutes is because even if it negatively impacts his game, that negatively impacted game is still superior to Ulis’ fully functioning game. It’s like playing Michael Jordan when he’s sick. He’s not 100% Jordan, but even 75% Jordan was better than other fully operational Jordan’s and enough to win a championship.
I vote for #2 of sorts. Have you seen his draft pictures with his mother. Look at her fingernails. For a person to nurture those fingernails and live with them is debilitating. You cannot type, run a calculator, even clooking, cleaning, eating and driving would be difficult. Besides that, they are hideous looking. But she obviously has gotten so attached to them as a part of her identity that she is willing to live as a partial invalid in order to keep them.

Think that might explain something with Elfrid? There is no doubt that he is an excellent player even with the mop. But how much better could he be without it?

Touching a guy's hand or wrist is the same as brushing against hair? Ok.

Hey. I've decided that I am all good about his hair until next fall. It can be kinda like Steph's ankles on his first RFA deal.

Agreed. Let's get Payton under a new contract.

Why is that concept so hard for people to grasp?
