My lord... I can never remember so many ridiculous arguments... across every part of the board... going on at once (and yes... I include myself in the ridiculousness).

Put on a baseball cap with a floppy visor.

I firmly believe a haircut will get him several million more in free agency.

I believe this to be true as well. The money factor alone may persuade him to get a haircut.

LOL you armchair basketball coaches are hilarious!
Not armchair basketball COACHES. People that have actually played the game. And don’t tell me the game is different at the pro level than playground level when it comes to sight lines and peripheral vision because that’s just not true.

Supports what? That his hair is a detriment to his game? Seriously? Can you write that sentence while having a straight face?

It's absolutely ridiculous how many of you are convinced that Payton's HAIR is detrimental to his game. I'm saying that if you all are right, he would have either cut it himself or been forced to cut it long ago.

I can't resist. :D

So Chap. Do you ever see his hair growing too long in front to be a detriment to his game, the way he is growing it now?

Is there a cutoff where you say enough is enough. Would it be 1/8 inch, 1/4 inch, 1/2 inch, 3/4", i inch, 2 inches, etc., more.

Let's assume you are right and it is a possible problem. I realize your argument is that we don't KNOW whether someone has spoken to him or not. For argument's sake, let's say nobody has spoken to him about it. What reasons could you come up with for that to occur (or not occur, as the case may be)?

And then, let's assume the teams/basketball people, etc. HAVE asked him to do it and he's refused. What is the motivation then to give him any minutes at all--wouldn't that technically be conduct detrimental to the team?

The hair is ridiculous--there is no question about that.

But your question is irrelevant. IF it does make his game worse, which there is no evidence of, then why hasn't anyone told him to cut it?

How do you know they haven't?? Do players do everything they are told? Cousins was told to shut his mouth...did he? Besides, maybe with the league rules coaches aren't allowed to discuss hair styles.

We do not know if anyone has not asked him to cut his hair. I suspect with the CBA, a team can't.

The proof is in the pudding as time goes by... if it makes his game worse.

I suspect a person plays better if they can see better. It would seem to be a reasonable thought. How much better, we do not know at the moment.

It’s impossible to know if Payton’s hair actually blocks his shot every time, but we have enough footage to know that it’s happened more than once.

The Conclusion
This video demonstrates how NBA players alter their shooting forms depending on their hairstyle, which can have detrimental effects on the trajectory of their shot:

If no one has spoken to him about it i suppose the reasons could be:

1. They haven’t been seen it impact his game in their opinion;
2. They posses some knowledge that he’s super defensive or sensitive to the subject (I mean do we know WHY he wears it like that? Maybe there’s a very personal reason)
3. Maybe there’s a clause in his contract (I realize this is absurd, but it illustrates how little we actually know)

If someone has spoken to him about it and he keeps it the reason they still give him minutes is because even if it negatively impacts his game, that negatively impacted game is still superior to Ulis’ fully functioning game. It’s like playing Michael Jordan when he’s sick. He’s not 100% Jordan, but even 75% Jordan was better than other fully operational Jordan’s and enough to win a championship.

There’s no evidence that it doesn’t make his game worse either.

And we don’t be know if anyone has told him to cut it.

Both of you’re statements are guesses

I vote for number 2.

I'm sure players have talked to him about it if only jokingly.

This screen shot comes from the video in that article. I don’t junk it’s perfectly timed to capture how much his hair momentarily blinded him in the act of shooting, but it was close enough to show how much more difficult the act of seeing the rim is for him...

So is your speculation that it actually affects his game.

And so other guys post a ridiculous article that speculates that his hair is more powerful than the muscles in his wrist. I can't believe any of you guys take this seriously.

There is no evidence I can't drive a car blindfolded either.
