Suns intend to offer Steve Nash multiyear deal

I don't accept it. If we had Gentry and Amare for a full season, we would be a playoff team, there's no doubt. If Kerr can make the right offseason moves (such as getting rid of Shaq, JRich, and Barnes and bringing in some good defenders to replace them.... as well as making smart free agent and draft decisions), we could potentially become a very good playoff team.

Looking back the Suns did indeed clean whatever defensive cupboard they had. Trading KT and two first rounds picks was a terrible move based upon saving money. Moving James Jones did not help either.

Well, let's see. The last trade made charlotte a hell of a lot better. Miami is better after trading Shaq away. As for Thomas, right, I'm sure the Spurs fans are in tears right now that they picked up Thomas for nothing instead of waiting for Barnes to become available.

He says that Denver could be the #2 seed and he doesn't think they're that far behind Denver that a few tweaks wouldn't put the Suns right back up there. He also says he wants to be back next season.

If the Suns trade Shaq now they would have to take back equal salaries, if they wait a year and let him walk they unload $20 million. Sarver may be able to save more in the long run by keeping the team together another year if he can unload just enough to get under the tax line.

i think holding on to shaq, although expensive, for another year is the best bet.
let his $20mil expire, and wait for the 2010 free agent year.

get rid of nash now, while he still has value.

as we all know, bigmen last a bit longer. i think nash still has value right now, and lets see what we can get for him.

with guys developing like dudley, dragic, and lou. we could get by this next year if we add some long wing players. the question is, where do we find them and another pg.

Well they can take 15% or so less back which would help them cut salaries immediately for next season to get under the luxury tax.

As long as we get one medium expiring contract and not only longer contracts it would work very well.

We have no need for 20M$ caproom in 2010 anyway because we would have to overpay for whoever is on the FA market and the very good players don't change teams through free agency anyway. So the ones we could get won't help us rebuilding.

Haha I love when these comments come out. It happens a few times a day on various places in the board when the poster doesn't have any better argument this is what they always result to. Do you think Grant is gonna say "Yah we suck lets blow this $#*& up and move on". Even if we aren't that far behind Denver, we are still worlds behind LA, Boston, Cleveland, and San Antonio IMO. If this team was kept together would they challenge for a playoff spot? Probably. But would they challenge for a championship? Not a chance. So what would the point be?

Grant Hill likes the training staff, likes the team and likes Phoenix. Is it really that much of a stretch for him to say that? Grant Hill has had the best resurgence of his career here. If this team is broken up, who knows what that would mean for Grant.

Also, it's not like Grant is the type of player anymore that if you added him to a roster it would put a team over the top. He knows that. So, going to another city would probably not increase his chances of a title unless he goes to the Celtics of the world etc. Then there is no gaurantee without this training staff he would hold up.

I think Grant knows this roster needs an overhaul. Given the choice of going to another city or trying again (retooling again)...it's a no brainer what he would say. Grant's desires lend no more credibility to the prospects of this team ever winning a title with this core.
